    I agree the other insert ink cartridge is very nice and the OPen pro light not standing up is not great, but you missed the point of the light being on the pocket clip. You can turn on the light and put the pen in your shirt pocket and have a light to walk around hands free.

    • @drivewayy
      @drivewayy ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still clip the Fenix and walk around hands free....the only difference is that the pen will be hanging outside the pocket. A small trade off for ~50% less money.

    I like the idea of a backup light inside a pen. I often hear from my friends and family that edc flashlights are redundant since most phones have one. But I think like this: when are we most likely to need a light source? Probably when it gets dark, which is usually in the evening. The evening is the part of the day when your phone is most likely to be low on battery after a whole day of use. I don't feel comfortable with my phone being too low on battery because of ever possible emergency scenario. So yes, I often use my phone to light up my environment, but I also want a backup. Carrying a dedicated flashlight might be the best solution for some, but for others (white collars possibly?) it might be overkill. Having a flashlight included in your pen reduces the overall amount of edc items you carry all day.

      @@maxlvledc It's NOT the fact that you make mistakes. It's that you do not cover them up and often put the right thing or spec on the screen, correcting what you goofed. No reasonable person expects perfection. What we appreciate is the responsibility you take for fixing it.

    The only time I think these flash lights come in to play is if you’re riding upside down or under an object and having to make notes on the fly and need a little bit of light. Also in a camping situation at night and you’re trying to make notes on a map or even calculations I think it would be very useful. I actually think if you could get a fisher space pen refill in this it would be quite useful for NASA.

      Inspecting things and then making notes is exactly why I would like one of these things, but I refuse to buy them because they insist on the silly "tactical" thing. Which means I would 100% forget to place it in my checked bag, and end up losing it to airport security sooner or later. Why do they all have to have a glass breaker or stabbing tip, I seriously doubt anyone has ever earnestly used those things.

    For the laser i think you should have a specific use for that (office presentation or showing things outdoors at night regulary, or having cats 🐈‍⬛.)
    Bur overall i don't think it's gimicky to have a light on a pen, you never have enough light, the question is "at what cost ?" I have the olight, but bought it on a sale for 60$ and some other stuff so with the shipping and all, i think it made sense.
    The only main downside is the refills that are propietary to olight

    If the top half of the Olight still lights, place it on its side instead of trying to make it stand.

    Not sure why your O-pen top doesn't stand on its own. Mine has no issues even with the button on the bottom.
    Also you stated having it on the clip can cause issues without addressing all the benefits of being able to clip on shirt or into a pocket or even a hat and use it hands free is a big plus.
    So with them both having the ability to stand, and the O-pen also having a laser I would definitely choose it over the other

    • @Misterfennec
      @Misterfennec ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine does aswell, you need to tilt it a bit toward the back, but overall i think this is a false debate, in a pinch (writting in a tent, filling paper for a car crash etc.) I think you wouldn't waste time finding a perfectly flat surface just to put your little light that wind will knock over anyway.
      I think you'll probably clip it on your shirt pocket, coat or else to be enlightened.

    I love the look and feel of the OPen over the Fenix (and I dont like bolt pens and the blue T6 does look nice). I carry the OPen more, but I completely agree that the Fenix is for more people. As someone who owns both, if you are not drawn to the OPen's looks, are not picky about feel, dont use a laser ever, and dont have any brand loyalties, go for the Fenix every time.
    The OPen looks and feels twice as expensive as the Fenix, but that is not to say the Fenix feels cheap.
    The oPen also goes up to 120lm instead of 80, but I cant say I've ever used my Fenix and thought "I wish it was brighter".
    Most importantly...The OPen 2 ($60) just came out and it did away with that anti-standing button and moved the light to the body instead of the clip...so there is that.

    as an aircraft maintenance tech the olight is 100% practical the laser you can point to hard to reach areas where your explaining repairs to your coworkers or areas you need them to inspect also the light comes in handy 100% there is countless times that i have reached for it being inside the avionics bay and i needed a light on my shirt pocket. 100% worth it i have 3.

    You should have compared the Olight OPen 2 to the Fenix T6. That is more of an Apples to Apples comparison. You could beat the Olight up on price and cartridge, but the rest of the features are the same in that it stays on a table and no accidental activation. G'day mate. Hopefully Christmas was exciting for you & family. It's a true fact that all or anything compact is a gimmick. Some are good & some are less inviting while some may be the perfect tool coz that's what you happen to have on you. It's all good actually as long as we all know the limitation. There are much less expensive pens with extras that is made in China, Korea & Hong Kong including other places in Asia. Nowadays we get ones with battery of all sizes & shapes. We uses a pen made in Bangla Desh, it has a flshlight, a laser poiter & digital clock. It's more of an executive writing utensil with the laser explaining what's on the white board/screen & with time to inform the length of that meeting etc. It's a gimmick but a good gimmick & lots to select from nowadays. I would really like a pen with a decent mini flashlight, but I don't need or want a "tactical" pen. I need a small light that can illuminate something for a second, and then turn around and write down what I saw, without having to hold two items. At no point in my life will I ever employ a "tactic" that involves stabbing anything or anyone with a pen, and I don't want a $50 pen that'll end up confiscated by airport security. Even the Fenix would be a dice roll every time, according to the TSA rules. Surely I'm not the only one. Why do all these manufacturers try so hard to entice the "tactical" crowd with everything, at the expense of practical usability?

      I hear this opinion a lot from my friends and family.

    I'd like to see an EDC pen video for pens that are not too expensive that I'd use as just a good pen 99% of the time & look like a normal pen for TSA, but have some self-defense options.
    Most tactical pens look obnoxious & frankly seem impractical. I don't care about a glass breaker on the top of pen & I don't want to say to the mugger wait let me take the pen cap off so I can jab you. I want a pen that I can quickly pull from a pocket & immediately write w/ or jab w/ in that once in a lifetime moment when I'm in danger.
    I envision the grip I'd automatically/ naturally use in a defensive moment would be fingers wrapped around the pen, the writing point as the defensive edge & my thumb on the opposite end of the pen so I'd have a little umpf w/ a jab. Glass breakers or jagged edges where I'd instinctively put my thumb just seem dumb, but what do I know.
    I bet you already have a video - I'll have to look around your channel. Thanks & sorry the long windedness of post.

      He recently did a video about a decent self defense pen, and he has some reality based things to say. I don't remember the price point of the one he recommended though, so check out the video.

    I don't know if I can really call it a gimmick because you still get a pen and decent flashlight, but personally don't want these 2 things combined.
