Protopasta cameo! On the way home I ordered some Repkord, it really is beautiful in person, And some Quantum PLA-that filament is just wonderful. I had way too much fun organizing all your filament!
That NT spool is from nefilatek from canada who produce PETG from recycled plastic. It print at a slightly higher temp but works greats, you must print your masterspool but the refill is compact and leave you with only a "centerspool" as waste.
Hi Courtney and Joel, Great to see our product in your filament storage! The Facilan™ C8 filament is a modified PLA compounded with Polycaprolactone and natural fillers. From the packaging I can see that the product has to be one first batches we produced of that material, so if you need any new filament just hit us up. Greetings 3D4Makers people
Have you tried making filament from Plastic bottles? not from pellets or shredded material, but from plastic bottles that have been cut into long strips and fed thru an extruder. Bet that would be an interesting vid
Dude, Fluo yellow is an amazing filament for it's UV response. Shine a cheap Autozone near-UV pen on it and watch it glow! My desk printer has v-slot covers printed from that stuff, a direct drive bracket and my raspberry pi case as well. Incredibly resilient stuff, the raspberry pi case was at one point bolted to a monitor which I carried around on the job installing security systems. Not a single chip or scratch on it after a year of that. Very jealous of the collection. Currently down to 200g of PETG and a nearly full spool of TPU. The PETG is really making me miss the PLA, stuff should be sent back to hell where it belongs.
I have so many small almost gone rolls. It would be awesome to do a video or someone come up with a way to splice all them and rewind them. Then just make something different colors
The Mosaic Palette would be a great idea for that. It would be nice to have a tool that spliced ends together though. I have something that does the splice manually, but it,s hard to work with and I haven’t had a lot of success with it.
There's truly never enough time to print all the things one wants to print with all the cool filament spools one owns.... Loved the discussion of storing the hoodie and pants on a chair, hanging up shirts, and sticking all the smaller bits in a drawer. I have the same setup here as well. It's the best way to thrive in our beautiful Northwest weather. What a fun Alex@Protopasta ending!
If you still have a pallete 2 pro why not take your almost empty spools and feed it into the pallete 2 with the endless spool function? You would be able to condense and eliminate alot of clutter that way.
Courtney is a very good addition to your show. Thank you. Bring her back just for the great fun. There's more in that little lady we'd all like to see/hear/experience.
Aw, thank you so much! This was just too much fun to film and to see all the great filaments Joel had, which was far more than we had time to talk about!
We need smellovision to be invented!! I need a whiff of that chocolate pla !! Some of those need to be put in a special area with a lock and key! Precious rare filaments
What I do to keep my filament organised is I keep the filament in the box and have the label facing toward me so then it’s organised I can see what material and colour it is.
I would have put all of the filament in vacuum sealed bags to help prevent moister intrusion. Of course you will still have to dry the filament before printing but it will be a for a lot lesser time. Also a good vacuum bag sealer & bags are relatively inexpensive when buy bags in bulk which you seam to need. And some bags are resealable.
@@jaroot2 I don't want a pallet. Well at least not to actively feed printer.Just the splice feature in a small non computerized tool to quickly put together the last bits of spools.
I saw something on Amazon. Little device that sort of solder them together. I didn't catch the name because I wasn't interested. But, just letting you know there is something out there
I’ve tried a couple of “manual” joining setups. None worked real well. The palette will splice without sending it through the printer but you have to reel it up as you go or it becomes a big mess. Lol.
I did this for some time but the filament regularly broke apart at the points where the different types were fused together. Now I use leftovers up on big prints by manually stopping and switching spools.
First to like yay!!! So surprising on such a popular channel ! I have to say I’m def missing fan mail friday! But have been so enjoying all the great content you’ve been putting out my good TH-cam friends Joel, Shawn, and David!
Modern PLA really isn't as sensitive to humidity as the constant fearmongering we see about it would have you think. Other filaments, sure, but PLA's actually pretty robust.
Lol, omg I'm having flash backs to talks with my wife with how in the world she finds any of the filament of ours she uses and the chaos of how its organized. I havent broken down (yet) to pull everything out and re-org all our filament
That masterspool definitely looks like some CF filament to me. Look at it under a microscope to verify. The way it yields before breaking leads me to think of CF nylon but IDK
Too much filament problem? I’ll get hate over this perspective but.....You should donate a few rolls each quarter to YOUNG, aspiring, “underprivileged” makers. It’s doubtful that you’ll burn through all that material. There’s probably plenty of young fans that would be stoked just to burn up your partials (especially rare or discontinued string) and post their creations to a gallery.
Quick fix; Send me anything that is open and you haven't used in more than a month. LOL I MIGHT have a full roll of filament if I put all my tail ends on one roll.
So I mean, what was the final sort order?! We saw by color, but was it by color and type? Color and brand? We must know!!!! Courtney, save us! I have a closet that needs your expertise! Lol
We ended up putting all the PLA, PETG and ABS together, each sorted by color. His samples all went into one section and then there were some spools of additional types that got sorted into one area with sub-types together within that section. He had a lot of Protopasta that also went into one cubby, which apparently is now going to have more in it, what with Alex arriving after we finished!

Yes, all filament can be ruined by humidity. I use a gasket sealed large box for storage (mini dehumidifier inside) with a few hours in a full size food dehydrator if it starts printing badly.

It was so much fun watching you and Joel interacting! I still can't believe how bad his storage was :D

FLUO YELLOW needs to be a max sized PAC-MAN
Dan's smelly plastic! It's cellulose based too, really wish it became a thing.
That’s right that is the name!
Yellow glow sticks. I would totally print glow sticks with that fluorescent yellow, even if it doesn't fluoresce.
That’s a really neat idea, I wonder if there's a model out there somewhere
Meanwhile I look at my well organized collection of 3 PLA spools and 2 bottles of UV Resin.
The ending! 😋 "Ooo, space! I'll just leave this here".

..and Alex is definitely "helping" 😅
That's true, I don't know if ANY will have an organized filament solution as good as Courtney's!
Alex coming in at the end was too perfect!
Courtney's honesty is refreshing.
Agreed.
3:40 When I see how this storage is organized, I want to go in an re-organize it properly... But it certainly looks better then the start!

A thought for the "fluo" yellow filament... 3D print a giant hairy tennis ball with it.
