  • 'Mother' refers to 'Mother Earth', and the song is one of my strongest to date. The topic is about how we treat our only Mother Earth against better knowledge, and how we egotistically are stealing our children's future.
I really had to cross some of my hardest personal principles in creating this video, cigarette smoking being one of them. I also spent an entire day trying to create fake blood in order to make it look like I had killed my treasured dog, Joy, to use her fur in vain. That scene is my worst nightmare, and shooting it felt very uncomfortable. My hope is that the song, the lyrics and the video will have an impact on how we think and act towards our only planet and home. I believe that if we treat each other with respect and love, including the environment, the animals and all people, the world will be a better place. I want to thank Greta Thunberg for her important work, and for much inspiration to create this video.
Below are the lyrics. The song is written by Rhyan Shirley, David Thulin and myself, and it is produced by David Thulin. Video production by Mathias Fossdal. Special thanks to the actresses for excellent performances in the video: Oline Hoff Kristiansen for playing the little girl (next generation), and Rita Nøkleby for playing the role of Mother Earth. Please enjoy: 'Mother'🌍
    'Mother'
By Trine Rein / David Thulin / Rhyan Shirley
    V1:
Oh I know my mom is getting older
her knees are just too weak to hold her
and it’s my job to take care of her
But the smoke is just too sweet to kick
Mom will understand I did my best
As I light up beside her bed
    Pre:
Every puff is laced with selfishness
I could but I don’t want to quit
    Ch:
I swear to God that I love my mother
I swear To God That I love my mother
    Once she’s gone I can’t replace her
Yeah I promise you that I love my mother
    V2:
I know she needs to get some air
So I take her to the ocean where
the oil stains can soak her hair
And as the cancer starts to spread
I put plastic down to line her bed
It’s bad but who cares once she’s dead
    Pre:
    My convenience is priority
My excuses reign like a tyrant king
    Ch:
I swear to God that I love my mother
I swear To God That I love my mother
    Once she’s gone I can’t replace her
Yeah I promise you that I love my mother
    Br:
I know that time is running out
And my kids will suffer from my doubt
But I’m just way too comfortable to change
    Ch:
I swear to God that I love my mother
I swear To God That I love my mother
    Once she’s gone I can’t replace her
Yeah I promise I still love my mother
At least I think I love my mother
    This is me, Trine Rein:
    TRINE REIN
    Norwegian/American singer/songwriter/artist
I was born (not so horribly long ago!) in San Francisco, and at one, my mother took me to Norway where I grew up on the countryside a little south of Oslo. The first language I could understand, was American, and the first language I could speak, was Norwegian. My musical heart has always been drawn back to my roots, so most of my music has English lyrics.
I write a lot of my own material now, but in the earlier days of my career, I never viewed myself as a songwriter. I guess it took some maturing and a few years of life experience to get to a place where I could trust in my own abilities to compose my own music and lyrics. Since I never took any interest in learning how to play an instrument, I always depend on other musicians and writers to help me put together new song material. It has given me some incredible opportunities to work with amazing people and writers through the years, and I am blessed to look back on a long and fulfilling career.
To me, there is only two kinds of music: good music, and bad music. I don’t care so much about getting stuck in one genre, I just perform music that speaks to me regardless of the origin. I draw the line at cursing in my lyrics. I see no reason to call on the darker side to express myself, and I always try to keep my focus on the light. I know the light, and I also know the darkness.
Asides from my loving family and friends, the most important asset in my life is my loyal followers and audience. Without you guys, there would be no me. I honestly don’t know what I would have become in life if it hadn’t been for you. Making a living in the entertainment business is a rough road, and I admit that I have sometimes wondered how else I could be making a living. I always get back to this: I really don’t know what else to do, so I guess I’ll just continue to do what I love the most: To sing! 🎶

We really don't love 😕 mother earth 💔 .it's sad how we neglects the nature 😔 💔. But nature is very unforgiving and always finds way to balance, like take care of it's self. History as a way of repeating itself. Nice song Trine 🎵 👌 👍 👏 ♥. My favourite musician.

Thank you for doing this song with your beautiful voice! I found you through your (my favorite!) cover of "Torn." Unfortunately, we've found here in California that it takes laws to slow the use of plastics, reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable fuels with limits on fossil fuels. I try to limit my own use, but when we are given limited choices it is hard. It seems that our only choice is to vote for the politicians who also care about our "Mother." That is what I'll be doing here on November 3, 2020.

Ann Smyers thank you for your sweet comment! Glad you enjoy my music, and that you are conscious of caring for the environment. It has to start with each and every one of us, the choices we make individually, and the pressure we put on authorities. That’s what a democracy in action looks like. Glad you are using your vote, too! My vote is already registered, and I have high hopes for a positive change in the USA after the election🙏🏼❤️😊🎶

Renner Able Cyrus #R.A.C Thank you for your sweet comment🙏🏼😊 ‘Mother’ is really about Mother Earth, but I do use a generic ‘mother’ as a metaphor to emphasize my environmental message in the song. I didn’t have an audience before I started my career either. I think you just need to start somewhere, and build from there. Best of luck to you!😊💫

Alle mister noe viktig i angst og utålmodighet.
Jeg tror det er en sang som minner meg om det.
    (google tanslate)
    誰もが不安や焦りで重要な何かを失います。
    それを思い出させる曲だと思います。

The smoke, the fur and the plastic waste. It really just depicts how actions speak louder than the words you sing. How uncaring this vain woman is, I hate her. By giving your looks to this character, you show yourself as a couragious artist and that is the only part recognizeable to Trine Rein in this video. Your brave move forces me to look at my own actions and my true relation to OUR Mother. I just. I live a meek life. I feel the way rich people profit is a more impacting factor. Like... The industrial workers who work all day at a factory that pollutes their water. Their tired eyes don't see a bigger issue for their survival, they just buy cheap groceries and water in plastic bottles. They are not home to save their trashcan from the rough wind, and they cannot discover that the recycling company just sells the trash to a country with no limitations to throwing it into the sea. The industry worker is mostly set on his own set of problems. Those who speak up come between rich people and their profit. Which is a scary place to be. It is hard to keep from fearing to loose it all, just lile most fear to loose their mother. This songs name is perfect. I wish humans were too. I recommend to search for Brene Browns podcast with the author of "stretch". Maybe a nice way to reckognize when we make the switch from wholehearted and brave, to craving and egocentric. May all mothers raise children that embrace stretchiness. ❤️ Amen

Thank you for sharing your profound thoughts on the issue. I agree that there are a lot of areas where regular people don’t get a say in major decisions made on behalf of the environment. However, I believe we all need to look at ourselves in the mirror to change the way we choose to live. Nobody’s perfect, but it is always better to do something good rather than nothing. Thank you for following me🙏🏼😊
