The other couple of things I do with this method is firstly to finely spray your wood with water (the steam created helps to transfer the image better). The other thing is to use a desoldering station with a hot air blower. This will allow you to burn the edges to create an even more realistic effect. Can I take this opportunity to say I have a deep respect for teachers who think outside the box when educating our children. You do a fantastic job in what you do and your passion just in your videos, shows the commitment you give to the children in your care. Thank you so much, words never seem enough and as a parent, you are my hero.
Thanks for this. I’d been through so many transfer tutorials this week. Almost destroyed my laser printer feeding plastic paper through it. Your iron technique is what made the magic happen.
I've transferred this way - not using an iron but a special tip on my burner and one thing I can add to your tutorial here is that you NEED to make sure that you heat ALL of the wood (not just where the picture is. If you only heat part of the wood it will take the stain differently and you will end up with a blotchy finish. The heated wood doesn't take the stain as well and ends up lighter.
Oh my, I have tried to transfer copies to wood using the "transfer tool" for wood burning & it ALWAYS burned the wood. I never thought to use an iron!! Wow now I can go back and do all the patterns I've already copied and cut out!! Thank you so much!!!!
I think that it depends on what/how you're going to use the transfer. If you're going to burn, this would be better. If you want a transfer, aka photo, Modge Podge is better
You can get an inexpensive wood burning kit with a flat round tip that works very well, and is even better than an iron for smaller transfers with a lot of detail (for instance, a logo).
Nice job here ~ while you peeled back the paper transfer I might suggest just a little longer with the hot iron only because you might move the transfer paper ~ nice touch to add color and a varnish over the box cover will do nicely
You can also do the same thing using acetone and no iron. Prep the same way, then wet some cloth with acetone and rub. You'll see the image through the paper. Let it dry, or use a hair dryer. The paper will peel right off and you'll have the image.
Good demo. As a note: there are actually tips for woodburning tools specially designed to do this. They look like a 1" disc and work very well at concentrating the heat. Really good demo though, including all the important points.
I think the image after ironing looked good enough, gave it an antique feel to it being as the lines were kinda broken up....makes me wonder if you could just put a finish over the ironed ink image without the ink smearing
Thank you for this video and information I have been wood burning and never thought that you could transfer a image thanks again and love from Scotland x
It's a laser print on regular paper before the iron transfer. Great video man, I needed to come back and watch this because it's been a long while and I forgot if it bad laser or inkjet. Peace
Great way to transfer. I hope you go back to doing woodburning. It's really fun. Want to check out my first tutorial? Thanks for the iron transfer tip.
Make sure you are using a fresh photo copy and the wood is sanded smooth. It takes a couple of passes and the iron needs to be hot. I have 2 other videos showing this process. Also don't use an ink jet printer.
TY for saying what sort of wood, paper, and iron you used. I tried this using some off the shelf stuff (wood) from wal-mart, regular paper, and an old steam iron with no steam. I pressed on max heat for about ten minutes. The image transferred, barely. Gonna grab some pieces of different wood, and test again. Curious if you have done this method with other types of wood?
I just realized that there are settings, at least in my Samsung Android Photos, that one can automatically change the image style from regular to vintage to sketch, etc. May be useful...
The subjects covered in this wood working book “pepe amazing plan” (Google it) ranges from wood types to tool types as well as uses. A few other subjects range from the several types of wood along with their distinct levels of difficulty with regards to handling them. In case you are still a novice in woodworking, then you will find this book very beneficial.
will this also work if the box is painted? thanks in advance! i tried various technics and am trying to figure out which one is the quickest, safest and accurate
If I were to give this technique a try, as a health precaution, I would wear a mask, in preventing myself from breathing in the fumes while wood burning.
Help Please. I used a laser jet printer to print my image then put my iron on high. All I got was the smell of burnt paper and black marks on the page. I even turned the iron down but nothing transferred. What am I doing wrong?
Candice Emery You really shouldn't use this method if you are going to burn over the lines. Transferring with graphite paper is better. The method in the video releases toxins in the air as you burn over the ink lines...it also can ruin your burner tips.

Nice video and congratulations on getting it to 1 million views.

I've been looking for the easiest one for a long time
Great job. Try using water pencils and you can shade it with a wet Q-tip. Works really well.
Ütülemeden önce kağıdı mı ?ahşabımı ıslatmayı öneriyorsunuz
Oh wow. I've been doing these transfers with Mod Podge. I will try this. Thank you!

Great job! Hope to see more woodburning projects. Keep up the good work😃👍
I think u did a good job for how much u have done it great work ty

Awesome David. I am definitely going to try that today. : )
David Summers please
Porto picturr
Ama o sadece transfer için iyi ahşap yakma için de uygun mu

+Wayfinder Wishbringer Hey! What are you doing here man? I guess great minds search alike!
+morbanjo Hiya! I got started on TH-cam at 7:30 last night watching woodworking videos... and finally managed to break away about 1:30 am. :D
Wishbringe
I think the image after ironing looked good enough, gave it an antique feel to it being as the lines were kinda broken up....makes me wonder if you could just put a finish over the ironed ink image without the ink smearing
I know this was made two years ago but the advice is still good ! Thanks man :)
Thank you for this video and information I have been wood burning and never thought that you could transfer a image thanks again and love from Scotland x

Yazıcıdan mürekkep baskılı olunca bu işlem işe yaramıyor mu😢
I'll have to try this, thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks a lot for the tip! I am not an artist by any mean so this is very helpful!

I took a video of some of my students using this to put designs on a skateboard.

Wow that`s good! The best technology i`ve ever seen.
Hey Mr B...what heat setting is the iron on? just curious. thanks Beau
The best & easiest way to do it! Thanks for this! 👍
that turned out really good.
I just realized that there are settings, at least in my Samsung Android Photos, that one can automatically change the image style from regular to vintage to sketch, etc. May be useful...
Wow, that looks really cool, you did a great job!
that looks really neat. I think you wouldn't need to burn as the transfer looks nice enough
Beautiful job on the train!
So very clever and a great tutorial
Januk
this is soo cool im jst now getting into this sorta stuff and keep scratching my head on how to transfer images on there....thank you so much
tryforceofcurage The best way to transfer an image to wood is graphite transfer paper.
He's just using an ordinary A4 PAPER right?
This is amazing. I covering paper in pencil lead on one side to make transfer paper. Lifesaver. On the real.
Nice work! You say several times you don't know if it's good, but it looks pretty good to me. Thanks for the tips ;)
Thank you for sharing this technique. Very helpful.
Does the photocopy have to be fresh or would it help or makes no difference? Thanks and awesome idea.
Bu sorulara hiç yanıt verilmemiş çok üzücü 😢
Thank you SO much! Very helpful.
At first I didn't think that it made a difference, but now that I have tried both, I would say that a fresh one would work better.
Thank you for video I was making some dreidels and wanted to print on the letters. you saved my day
So is this just regular paper with a regular photocopy?
What a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing this.
Love it and the colored pencil idea Two Thumbs up!
Cool. Do I have this right? It is just a laser copy and the heat transfers it to wood?
is there a certain amount of time after you print the image that it needs to be ironed onto the wood?
That is so cool
Inspired me to buy a burner and give it a go. Thanks!
awesome tutorial. very clever. awesome job. :)

very well done, i like it a lot.
Thanks for sharing. Good job
Would a swing away heat press work better than an iron if someone has access to one or would that be overkill on heat and pressure?
woow great job
can i ask
first of all i am new at this
what other things i can Iron Transfer on it other than wood
thank you
Pamuklu kumaş üzerinde etkili olur
Nice job
would white paint change the background color? I'd like to try a B&W picture but I'm thinking the wood would be its natural background
Very lovely colours and pleasing eyes ~_~
Hello, ¿Qué tinta utiliza para realizar la tranferencía, es especial o común?
Can you transfer to paper with this technique
Do you need just heat from the iron or do you need steam from the iron? AKA do I need to add water to my iron to make this work?
Just the heat :)
will this also work if the box is painted? thanks in advance! i tried various technics and am trying to figure out which one is the quickest, safest and accurate
Is it also possible on leather.
Yes, The transfer is not 100% perfect, but it is enough to help guide you later with the wood burner.
what heat setting did you have your iron on and also did the iron have water in it?
he said just the heat.
Can you do this with printer ink?!
what setting is the iron on
Looks good to me too 🙌🙌🙌
I've given this a shot on some spare wood, didn't work, only thing I can figure is its not smooth enough, what grit did u use?
Excelente
Muchas gracias
Actually for your wood burner you can get a specific tool that does the same thing and it inhanses it more so you dont have to go over it again
good for carving as well ;)
Will this iron on transfer technique work on Veg tan Leather?
This is so cool, I want to do this
What happens to the parts of the image that you don't burn over? Does the ink just fade away over time ?
would it work if u print the image of a printer
which is the hottest setting? cotton?
way to awesome!!!!
nicely done
You can also use a transfer marker... works a lot faster
will useing a prestain treatment help?
So that is just basic paper and a laser printer.... that was neat even before the wood burning.
Can you specify whether you can use a laser printer or inkjet? there are no laser jet printers. thanks.
good job sir
Whether it be a laser, or can and ink jet printers?
Thanx.
It does not matter the heat? If it is medium, low or at its maximum?
Ariana Zburlea
Burim Arjeta Zekaj
What paper and cloth can I use??? I got a child's shelf and trying to put spongebob on it but how do I transfer it
can you copy your photos from an 'Inkjet' printer and transfer onto wood?
Dawna Fisher Steve shows you how in wood working for mere mortals
have you tried it yet? I think only laser inkjet printers. something about the heat
The toner ink responds to heat. I think inkjet liquid is just pigment if I'm not mistaken and won't respond much to heat, but it's worth a try.
Where do you buy your boxes ?
your printer for this job - was it a laserjet or ink jet?
If I were to give this technique a try, as a health precaution, I would wear a mask, in preventing myself from breathing in the fumes while wood burning.
What's the heat setting on the Iron ?
What type of paper is it?
Thanku
It works on metal?
Where to buy paper?
Is that a special paper? Or just normal printer paper?
normal
What temperature did you use for your iron?
AS HOT AS IT WILL GET!
Look at my finished boxes videos to see what students have done to make the box look different.
Me encantò, lo harè!!
So this is done with ink not laser?
Took much to long didn't need to drag it out so much as it was very straight foward but you did a good job
Help Please. I used a laser jet printer to print my image then put my iron on high. All I got was the smell of burnt paper and black marks on the page. I even turned the iron down but nothing transferred. What am I doing wrong?
