Lord Rama was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is also referred to as Maryada Purshottam, meaning the ideal human being. People worship him because of his qualities and also as an incarnation of the avatar.
Also, the video you watched is from a programme called "youth and truth" where Sadhguru visits universities in India and encourages them to ask ANYTHING. There have been questions about masturbation, sex, drugs, extramarital affairs, politics, spirituality, occult, astrology, career and just about anything. No restrictions on the type of questions. He is planning to do the same in US universities too.
Eagerly waiting to see the kind of questions he would be faced with over there.

@truthseeker Ram is always refereed to as "Raja Ram" and the "Ram Rajya" is associated good administration, because he was the ideal ruler. The entire Ramayan is the story of an Ideal King following DHarma and how a ideal King should sacrifice his own personal life for the sake of his People. Adiyogi on the other hand represents the epitome of Human Potential (which can be reached once you Tyaag the Moh-Maya of the Sansaar), hence he is called Ideal Man.
You shouldn't misconstrue it from the Western meaning of the word....

@Rahul Ray Acceptance of one's thoughts as a possibility and testing and proving the same is the basic thing a Hindu is supposed to do. You find an ideal man in Adi Yogi, but, please enquire where this was said and why! Same applies to Rama. We should be aware of many things before coming to a conclusion. And that's how it works, isn't it?

When Rama quit the body in Sarayu river, his last words were, 'SITA'.
In 300 movie, the hero enchanted the same word, 'for my wife'.
People must understand the basic things before arguing. Ramayana is all about SITA. It doesn't revolve around Rama. Being alive to see your wife quitting her soul after you not only spend 14 years in forest but fought a war, must have been so so painful. I can feel it & I have tears. So when Rama, quit his Soul, his last words were 'SITA'.
Today's youth have more or less have no idea about great Sanatan culture, which is more diverse & rich in all its form. Only a wise culture can be so so diverse. Its 85% Hindus alnoe in Bhaarat aka India which provides diversity. Rest have this sick mindset like 'my way or highway'.

    Some facts here professor:
    1. The students questioning here are leftists, who often attack Hindu culture and ideology.
    2. Rama holds the title of 'Mayada Purusthottam' which roughly translates to an ideal human.
    3. Out of many avatars of Vishnu, you would find that Lord Rama and Krishna are held in highest regards, for the reasons that Rama showed the word what are duties of a rightful man and King, and Krishna came to turn the age and destroy evil and preach people of the 'BhagvadaGeeta'. In India there are millions of God, out of who a few walked the earth. So in the hierarchy of the Gods, Ram and Krishna are held among highest Gods because we also have a lot to learn from them.
    4. Krishna said that I am God, but even then I am not inactive and doing stuffs, so that other beings follow the same.
    5. Another thing is that Sadguru is a yogic saint(There are 6 schools of Hindusim: Nyaya, Vaisheshik, Shankhya, Yoga, Mimamsa, and Vedanta); Yoga holds Shiva as supreme God. Similarly other schools and sects have other preference of worship and interpretations.
Also, why worship Rama when he is Vishnu himself??? Because Rama apart from being vishnu, as the character also earned its place as a God.
There are avatars of Lord Shiva which are not worshiped, eg Sage Durvasa. Some incarnation of Shiva are even hated eg: Ashavatthama from Mahabharata. So in the land of Bharat even incarnations of Gods have to earn their place.
Hinduism is open to interpretations and questionings, and the core philosophy of Hinduism lies in the fact that choose the path which suits you best. You can achieve God as a friend, as a devotee, by the means of knowledge, as your father/mother, by the means of good deeds(Karma) among many other ways.
So the idea here is that Vishnu, Shiva, etc incarnated in various forms for various purposes, But we put those at the top who gave us a new whole dimension of learning.

Yes professor you are missing a lot of things about Indian Gods.
1st Rama is not worshiped because he is avatar of Vishnu, there were many avatars of Vishnu but only 4 are popular and have temples and devotes among Hindus. And two are most popular Rama and Krishna.
Rama is worshiped because of his personality, his selflessness and all other tons of quality he had. Just like Jesus, people worshiped him because of his qualities and values, even though Jesus too was son of God but he is worshiped because of the values and philosophy he represents. Just like Sai baba is worshiped because of his work and contributions to society or like Sikh Gurus for their teachings and bravery. Even though Khwaza Gareeb Nawaz might not be considered as God due to Islamic rules but his status in India is no less than a God. Even Jesus is respected here, my mother always referred to Jesus as Jesus Bhagwan (God) when i was a kid and was curious about the statue of a guy hanging on cross at my Catholic School's hall.

I still visit churches and pray to Jesus and Saints. Hinduism does not keep any god away. "Vasudhaiva kudumbakam" means whole world is family. If whole world is family, every human, every creature, every insect is family. And all of these worship different gods. And we consider everyone who has done admirably well in their life, a God. In short, a Hindu considers everyone no different from a Hindu.

What you need to understand about indian mythology is that each story has a core lesson. Because Ram was such a great and rightful king, he is considered to be an Avatar of Vishnu and worshipped. Hinduism celebrates and worships extra-ordinary MORTAL men who once walked this Earth and did exemplary things. All the magical parts are add -ons, but are not that relevant. The core lesson is all that matters.

Must remember also that there was a purpose and leela for each episode of Ramayana. Sita was only apparently sent to the forest to satisfy the citizens, but as wife of Lord Rama, she also knew the hidden reason - so that she could tell the whole story of Ramayana to Valmiki, who wrote it all down! This great sage in the forest took care of her and also aided in bringing up her sons, Lav and Kush. This was also for her own and Rama's son's protection. The beauty is in the details!

Professor, you are looking at Bharat by the goggles of Abrahamic religions. And Bharatiya has no religion (Hinduism is no religion in a true sense. It is just people outside Bharat had made our geographical identity a religion in our texts there nowhere written that it is our religion ). So, just being a mere incarnation of God doesn't make him great. Even in some part of India Ravana is worshipped. So, it is not that a person is worshipped but his or her karma and dharma (how he convey his duties and obligation) made him a great. So, when Ravana was dying Ram sent Laxman to take final lessons from Ravana as Ravana was the greatest devotee of Shiva and bhraman of his time. Even Ravana was an incarnation of devas (for foreigners we say God but somewhat a diety). In Bharat, we worship the spirit or soul rather than the mere physical body so idols are just mere representations which have no value. When you go to very old temples (mandirs) you'll find that there the idols are just pieces of stones and nothing more but the faiths of people made them special.
It is difficult to understand our way of life which has no name or specific identity but it is the only thing which binds our nationhood. Even we modern-day Bharatiya are not able to understand it clearly consciously but unconsciously we do. So, I hope that you may have got some insights into our way of life.

Yes , you are correct. Vishnu takes avatar to show how to live your life righteously & perform your duty.
This is like a roleplay we call as #Leela. In fact there are plays everywhere in India to sjow these very qualities in Rama known as Ram-Leela ( don't confuse with the absurd movie by this name).

that's the point here, in "sanatana dharma" aka "Hinduism", one is free to question even God. we have always been questioning God and still continuing to do so. And it's Rama's Quality that makes him Godlike but he is still a Human, he was born as a human and eventually died as all Humans do. his quality puts him above humans, that normal Humans doesn't show.

Lord Vishnu, incarnated as Lord Shri Ram, to lead an exemplary life for all , as a Human. HE is God himself with all powers. HE could have killed Ravana in a jiffi, there was no need for HIM to take help from the Vanaras ( monkey kingdom). Since HE incarnated as a human, and the mission of this incarnation was to show people how to lead one's life virtuously as a son, as a King , as a husband , as a brother, as a friend and so on..... HE had to behave & act accordingly as a common man. HE could have also gone back to HIS own kingdome and gathered his own army + army from other kingdom's as well. But HE wanted to fight his own battle, in the most righteousness way possible.
Thus Lord Rama is called PURUSHUTTAM. ... THIS COULD HAVE CLEARED YOUR DOUBT OF HE BEING GOD.
Q HIS character & thinking that HE was an insecured person or having any other doubts on HE being GOD, is utter stupidity & a shameful act.
These men should introspect, that do they even have one virtue that LORD RAMA hold's , that they are Q'ing HIM. Today many MORONS, who cannot miss a chance of backbiting about his /her own ppl, have the audacity to Q about Lord Rama. Just because you are giving freedom to talk about Hinduism, one cannot talk as they wish. These 3 grow up , so called intellectual men, have hurt me.

He could have turned whole world upside down whenever he wanted to......but his life and incarnation on the earth was purely meant to direct human beings through various problems faced in their life......his every moment of life is solution to our today's problem.

Raam is the most dedicated man to fulfilling his duties. Born from Divine boon to King Dashrath's first wife Queen Kaushalyaa, he's also an Avataar. So, it's like asking which came first chicken or the egg when we ask why is he worshipped.. because he's a God he's the dutiful or because he's the dutiful that's why he's a God. Both aspects are present with him.

When sitting on a tree of knowledge, just because you can't see the bottom or the root, don't ever think it's not important and try cutting it away.. because your view or knowledge might only be covered by just a small branch and above you the tree might be as high as the sky. This 3 boys obviously thinking they've reached the tree top and trying to cut off the root without realising those action may bring down the whole tree on themself.

I liked ur question about vishnu incarnation workship of rama ,
    In general
Its a point to be noted that , the ramayan and mahabharata was written after it occurred so based on the quality of the rama he is been said to be like vishnu and
since from the beginning of the human its been feed to the people by the rishi that vishnu is going to transcend to the earth 10 times (no names mention not even places but it was mention that in which yuga how many avatars is going to be done)
So the conclusions is people decided that rama was vishnu avatar ,it was not written any where till the people have agreed to this ,
You see Hinduism allows us to , not to workship rama , or not to believe that rama was vishnu avatar , it our making we make him avatar of vishnu for those qualities he hav
the real thing is "The qualities makes him avatar of vishnu"..
Not bcoz he is the avatar of vishnu so he has those qualities ,
Remember we hindu mostly says "He/she is god like human "

The incarnations are not just worshipped because they're Vishnu avatars, but also for the teachings, the examples they set to us, the good things to learn from them..this is the very reason vishnu took human form to show what humans are capable of and the good deeds we can do and learn ...if possible also read bhagwat geetha ..all life lessons to arjuna indirectly also to all of us humans by Krishna another vishnu avatar...

Siddhartha Gautama is also an avatar of Vishnu. Who ever fights and struggles to protect the Dharma of Humanity is said to be an avatar of Vishnu - the preserver of mankind. The Buddha, Rama & Krishna were humans who walked this Earth considered as avatars of Vishnu because their whole life they stood for Dharma & Society !!

Rama is firstly worshiped for his qualities even if he was not avatar of vishnu he would still be worshipped ,hanuman is the symbol of loyalty and devotion so people pray to him for those qualities and he is avatar of shiva . It is the lessons and inspiration and their stories that people feel attached to, and this helps us to become better human beings.

  • @kingpinpigstrong5644

We had avatars of Shiva himself which we don't worship because in some way we don't see them to have done something in favour of humanity or the life in general..
If we have ever seen someone with a determination to bring about a change for the sake of humanity or any form of life(for which they could have sacrificed everything or really did it) then we have regarded them with the title of Ishwar(Isht+Vara) which translates to God in human form.
So it basically doesn't really matter to us that he was an avatar of Vishnu.
The second point you said... I also think like that.. and when you really observe the name of these characters it really brings us to the point which you said.. nice observing styles you got there.♥️

Lord Ram is worshipped in India for his righteous actions. He was a duty bound monarch who set the ideals and standards for the kings to follow. He's not worshipped just by the virtue of being an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It's Lord Ram's actions that make him 'Maryada Purushottam'-the ultimate, most honorable man, an ideal for kings. His actions highlight how a king should conduct himself. He set rules for duties of a king.

Even I'm not a scholar but what I know/understand is that whenever the Dharma will decrease, the divine Maha Vishnu will incarnate in different forms to restore Dharma. In Dwapar yuga when there was Adharma rising to its peak. Lord Vishnu incarnated as Rama in a human form to establish an example of how one should perform things according to Dharma. The lord could have just wiped out all the Adharma in no time. But this could not give an ideal example for all the human beings. Nobody can understand his Leela. 🙌 !! Om Namo Narayanaya!!🙏
