Oh wow, this is just SO very special!! Two brilliant young musicians together, one interviewing the other and how incredible is our favorite pianist, Alexander Malofeev. He is so humble and so kind and completely dedicated to his art. The world of classical music will be in very good hands in these two young musicians and others, of course. Thank you, thank you for this interview, both to the interviewer and the interviewee!! It's wonderful seeing Sasha talk about his thoughts behind the music!! What a blessing! (P.s., didn't you just love that gong towards the end of Gershwin?!!)🎶 😁

Scanning down the comments it is heartwarming to see so many of the names that appear in other clips. Sasha (since that is how the interviewer addresses him) has become an interesting person, not just an attractive young man with great talent. Analysts and commentators do their thing, while my job is to listen and enjoy, which I do, a lot. Sasha gave us such understanding of how he sees his mission in this performance suggests there will be many more and different ones in his future. He has endeared himself to people around the world, thanks to modern electronics, and we all wish him happiness and and a sparkling future!

It is so wonderful to see young people apply themselves so fully to classical music, while we, in the sixties grew up rebelling against anything old school. You are a breath of fresh air! So happy to come across this video today. I’ve watched this concert several times already and will watch it again and again. The Gershwin and Rachmaninov 2nd are my favorite concertos and and Alexander’s renditions are unsurpassed. He is an amazing pianist, not for his age, but for any age.

This is a very interesting interview - it's great to hear young people talking so intelligently about classical music in a world which is so dominated nowadays by pop, and your channel is fascinating - I have now subscribed to it. I only discovered Malofeev quite recently, and am hugely impressed by his technical ability and great musicality. I hope you don't mind, but I would just like to use this comment to recommend a wonderful concerto by the British composer Arthur Bliss which really should be better known - it was written for and premiered with great success in 1939 for the great pianist Solomon, and I think Alexander could play it magnificently! It is in a sort of 'modern romantic' style which is not so far from Rachmaninov and other composers that he plays regularly. Perhaps you could bring it to his attention? I would so love to hear/see him play it. You can hear it and see the score here: th-cam.com/video/eWp0EYO29wg/w-d-xo.html

I just wanted to say that not only is this interview very interesting, but it is so important, considering the tragic events in Ukraine, that musicians keep talking to one another like this, and keep POLITICS out of MUSIC. Already many Russian musicians and other artists are being punished for the actions of their government, which is very unfair. So I hope you will keep up a dialogue with the hugely talented young pianist Alexander Malofeev and that we will all try to encourage such dialogue and the hope that music, more than anything else, can raise us above worldly problems into a sphere of joy and peace. :-) Looking forward to more fascinating posts!

Very interesting interview. Lots of youthful enthusiasm and knowledge on both sides - which is what one likes to see! Sasha mentioned Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky and of course one mustn't forget that for all the jazz influences in his music Gershwin was the son of Russian immigrants, so there's a kind of genetic connection to a Russian musical and pianistic tradition.
