'crystal deal-breaker'...nicely done. The presentation is nice, and the scoring sounds fun and fairly straightforward. pointblanking is always fun! thanks for sharing your thoughts. the backlog grows daily
Thanks, man! It's a blast. I think stage 8 is the closest thing to a run. All the other stages have a single boss at the end (from what I recall), whereas stage 8 has staggered boss encounters without it actually being a legitimate arcade mode with a full-blown run.
@@Shmuptopia there's nothing wrong with that, imo =) we have boatloads of great shmups with traditional runs. i'm all for something a little different. Angel at dusk's chronicle mode is some of the most fun I've had in a while. bring the unique!
Short and to the point! Great video. I bought this pretty much the instant it released without even knowing a lot about it. I quickly got semi-addicted to scoring and spent roughly two hours playing only the first stage. I managed to sit at the top for a brief moment, which felt really good for a shmup rookie like myself. :)
if you're a rookie I really recommend playing older shooters first, this one isn't a bad one since it's such a homage to the 90s shooters on turbografx16. Those sorts of games are best to start out with because developers have deliberately expanded on shooters and added specific gimmicks and unusual gameplay that's not found in any other shooters. they were made deliberately wild because arcade shooter players were tired of the same basic Raiden-type formula. Developers knew this and starting in the mid 90s started to add really strange gameplay features to each shmup series that rarely appears in other shooters. They also ramped up the difficulty tremendously. Starting off in the late 80s and early 90s with games by Atlus and Toaplan and Hamster and Compile and Seibu Kaihatsu and Konami (can't forget Gradius) before going on to Psikyo and Cave and Treasure is really going to ease you into it and help you be a better less frustrated player.
tbh aside from a couple of small misses I think Terrarin is maybe my favorite current shmup dev. I love the old school Image Fight/Star Soldier style of shmup much more than the Cave style, and Terrarin clearly loves those games too.
Image Fight is a name I haven't heard anyone mention in quite some time. It's been ages since I jumped into the Switch port via Arcade Archives. Thanks for checking this out!
Worth noting that while there is no continuous run mode, Stage 8 is gigantic and features tons of enemies from the previous stages, it essentially takes the place of an arcade mode. We're currently going through the stages in the shmup junkies caravan competition, on stage 3 right now, I just put up my run. You really have to hold boost nearly the whole time for maximum scoring. Nice little review!
Thanks, man! Yeah, for sure! I mention this to someone else here that stage 8 is more or less the closest thing we have to a full-blown run. Even with the bosses at the end of each section, there's still something that doesn't feel like a legitimate run but I also don't feel the game has to include this sort of thing anyway because the emphasis with Terarin's games often feel better suited to super-short scoring bursts. Can you do me a favor when you have a minute? I still need to touch base with you on an idea. Can you contact me via email or Discord? shmuptopia@gmail.com or daceanaxyrus (Discord) previously Dace#5019. I would greatly appreciate it!
As much as I love bullet hell shoot em ups, it’s nice to take a break from those and enjoy a more traditional shooter. Loved the demo and can’t wait to pick this up and play on my Steam Deck!
Yeah, I'll never stop playing arcade STGs or modern STG releases. I love that Hamster brings us retro gold. Viper Phase 1 just dropped a day or two ago and I'll have a video of that up this weekend or early next week. Thanks for swinging by!
The game looks nice, reminiscent of the caravan shooters. I'm a big fan of individual levels in shmups, they provide a more beginner and time friendly competitive environment. I'll never have a top ten score in say, a cave game, but I used to have a lot of top ten scores in Ginga Force and Dariusburst CS.

Great to hear you've really locked in with this one. Thanks for checking this out!

2:00 woah!!! That's a surprising feature. It isnt common in shmups and I always die from colision.
I see this here and there, but yeah it's definitely not nearly as common as some elements. Thanks for checking this out, Sora!
cool! just added this to my wishlist on steam :)
Enjoy it when you get a chance! Trust all is well on your end, ghost.

Cool video, this one has been on my radar and maybe this holiday break is the perfect time to give it a go!
