ICC prosecutor urges commitment to international criminal justice

- The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, emphasised the importance of upholding the rule of law and stated that every human life should be valued equally while briefing UN Security Council members on the situation in Libya.
He announced at the UN Security Council on Tuesday that the investigative stage of the legal proceedings into alleged war crimes in Libya is expected to conclude by the end of 2025, transitioning into the judicial stage.
Khan urged the international community to seize this moment to renew commitment to international criminal justice.
“If a cause could unite this Council, naively perhaps, but I believed and hoped it would be the cause of international criminal justice,” he said.
“Which state is in favour of genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity? Which state doesn't want to be a protector of the vulnerable? Which state does not want to be on the side of legality and against the kinds of violations that we see in so many parts of the world?”

In the nine years since Palestine acceded to the Rome Statute, the ICC hasn't prosecuted a single Palestinian, in spite of Palestine's numerous armed terrorist groups that openly disregard international law and boast of their war crimes.

what those people in Palestine are sacrificing isn't so much for life, but more so that people who have never cared about or understood the plight they are and have been enduring, wake up and abandon the false narratives they have been force-fed for decades by world leaders who are actually the terror!sts, which they keep calling other groups.
Such absurdity, less than 1pc of Palestinians have died in this war, yet their population has increased by just under 3pc per year pretty much every year for decades (3x global average). If Israel was actually perpetrating genocide, there would have been no Palestinians (a term invented in the 1960s) 6 months ago.

The ICC isn't a court of "the world," it's a court of a limited set of countries that have agreed by mutual consent to create it and to give it jurisdiction. Neither Israel nor the United States is among those countries. So, yes, outside those countries, they have to ask, and the answer will certainly be "no."

See United States Code, Title 22, Chapter 81, Subchapter II. "The President is authorized to use all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any person described in subsection (b) who is being detained or imprisoned by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court." The people this covers include US officials and officials of non-consenting allies, such as Israel. "All means necessary and appropriate" is understood to include military action if needed, which is why this law is commonly called the "Hague Invasion Act" in the US.

What else is needed is: more than just an assertion, it is a definition and evidence and reason to support its applicability.
Pro-Palestinians stop at the assertion and never seriously try to justify it. If you are asserting genocide or ethnic cleansing etc, you are the one with the burden of proof to demonstrate it. Same with any other claim. How can you condemn people for something you can't even define?

The integrity of the ICC is indeed on trial. Will they have the integrity to recognize that their jurisdiction is limited to the parties of the Rome Statute, or will they arrogantly try to claim power over the sovereign states that have legitimately rejected them? If they do the latter, they could find themselves on the sharp end of sanctions, or even military force, as those states exercise their legitimate right to protect their officials against unlawful kidnapping abroad.

The countries of the Global South must retract their acceptance of the Rome Statute of the ICC (International Caucasian Court). When has NATO been held to account for its actions, vis-à-vis Libya?
It's a complete mystery to me why any country continues to accept the Rome Statute. Having an international court with jurisdiction over some countries but not others, ignoring most crimes while prosecuting a select few based on political pressure, seems worse than having no international court at all.
