When I was at school (UK) in the early 70's I was obsessed with nice pens and my fave at the time was the Parker 45 Flighter with the gold clip. However, my school (Sandbach Grammar) wouldn't allow ball-pens and would only allow fountain pens. When I left school my father very kindly bought me a mirror finished Cross (USA) ball-pen which were super rare over here at that time. As he gave it to me he said "remember, it's not what you write with that matters, but what you write"......I've got that Cross pen in my pocket right now, 42 years later...!!!!!
At Foster's Grammar School, Dorset, in the 1970s we too had fountain pens that were filled by Quink ink in a somewhat messy process. In the library at University RHC they used to have a huge bottle of Quink for students to refill from. Always remember the pocket spills from fountain pens that could ruin a white shirt!
I was at school in the UK in the 90's and we were told to use fountain pens also. Lots of ruined books, school bags etc due to leaks. I love Parker pens. I always carry a nice pen in my handbag
I have one from 2004. I used it everyday for about 11 years. I had it with me all times. I work on the railroad and for 7 of those years also drove tankers for two petroleum companies. Three jobs for 7 years and the one pen.The amount of writing I did with that pen, all the paperwork on the trucks, the customer tickets I had to fill out etc....plus every check I ever wrote during that period, shopping lists, you name it. Travelled with it on vacations. I wear them on the collar so any photos of me have that pen in it. I retired it to home use only. I had it so long now I’m attached to it. Bought two more Jotters around 2013. One red, one blue. Have quite a few refills, but that stainless steel one...we got some history man so now it’s safely in my WATCH drawer! The red and blue Jotters, those leave the house!
My grandfather gave me a stainless steel parker jotter when I was thirteen, that thing is so beaten up. I recently bought a new jotter just to put the functional part into my battered pen body.
I haven't started watching this video yet, but I'd like to say I really like your style of reviews. You really analyse the pens and look for the flaws that would lead to buyers remorse. You seem to know what the ideal pen should be and hold all pens up to that standard, which is great.
I've had Parkers (starting with a roller ball pen and then moving to a fountain pen which I used for most of my university exams and finally to jotters) since 2001. It's my go to brand for writing instruments. Sure it was "expensive" at 300 Indian rupees or 8$ in 2000s economy, but as a kid who was making his own money by age 15, this was a matter of pride to flaunt. Parker pen was for people who took writing seriously - like myself I suppose. 20 years down, I have a fleet of Parkers - fountain, roller and my favourite - the jotters. We don't have all the new designs in India, but the basic steel jotter costs 6$ here and is my every day carry.
I bought a Parker Jotter pencil, Parker Jotter ballpoint and one Parker Jotter fountain pen back in 1983. I used them throughout school, university and graduate studies, and they lie on my desk today. Absolute priceless, the best writing tools I ever have had.
Such a great review! Covering aspects of the pen I haven't thought of myself, but I found it very interesting. And I love the positive attitude from Nick.
Having studied in academia for over 13 years, and having tried lots of different pens, the Parker Jotter is absolutely my favorite. I write all my notes with it. I also love the Parker ink, in medium, as it seems to last a very long time per cartridge while being always reliable and properly visible in it's delivery. In fact, my notebooks that were written with other inks, before finding Parker, have faded considerably than anything since starting to use Parker.
People on amazon are complaining that the pen is too “short”...coming to your page I realized that the length and weight make it an ideal pen to carry along in a shirt or blazer pocket! Nice 👍 video
As the video finished I ordered one. I was getting back into fountain pens but they keep drying out in my backpack, and as I always enjoyed jotter parkers during highschool I figured this was going to be the EDC pen I wad looking for. Thanks again Nick:)
Just an FYI for you. I've had one for 5+ years now. I love it. However, I had issues with the ballpoint refills. So I switched to the gel refills. Do it! I thought it couldn't write better, but I have fallen in love with the gel refills. They may not last as long, but it's still worth it. Hope this helps you down the road.
@peupiquor1011 still going strong and in my pocket or on my desk daily. Still rocking the gel cartridge as well. My only gripe is the clip has that arrowhead looking point and it grabs on some random stuff and has gotten stuck on those. I think I lose it, but it's always hanging where it came off. Literally the only thing I can say bad about mine. For the price, it's hard to beat. Hope this helps. Get it for Grandpa regardless, he will love it and the gesture.
parker jotter is the casio of pens amazing value and durability for the price. i have the version of black tough plastic/ metal upside . and i like it that way because i dont particularly love the feel of metal on my fingers one of the few cases when (durable) plastic is better than metal in making of things IMO the plastic is very high quality look and feel
My Dad always used a Jotter. My mother had the top line Parker fountain pen; a present from my Dad. I usually use Parker ball pens; I have four, including a Jotter, all in stainless steel.
I bought mine in 2018, and promised myself I would sign my diploma with it. I'll graduate in two months if everything goes according to plan, and my Jotter is still the only pen I use.
I bought one because of this review. I've been carrying this for a week and change and I'm loving it. I think my only complaints are a slight rattle and that it's always lighter than I expect it to be when I pick it up.
I've had several of these in the past (and currently). A comment on its durability: about 10 years ago, I had one that got run over by a forklift. It of course got morphed into more of an oval cross-section, but it was still 100% functional. One of my all-time favorites!
Aparently in the 20th century, Parker salesmen would advertise its quality by standing on the (at the time plastic) barrel and show that the pen could withstand abuse without bending or shattering.
I have that same pen for the last 30 years, used to be my "lucky" pen in high school. Still working. I have a few of Parkers with lower body made of plastic, they are even older and they all work :)
I bought one of those last week. I also bought a quinkflow .5mm black cartridge at the same time. I love it. I will try it out with a gel cartridge refill in the future. For now I'm happy with this choice and totally agree with what you've said in this video. Cheers!!!🍻
Gonna have to get one of those. I just recently lost a Cross pen that I've had for about 6 years at work. I'll admit that it was never really mine to begin with; found it at work and couldn't locate the owner, so I decided to use it (I work in a big place).
I have this jotter. Excellent pen, that is not pretentious. Probably one of the best ballpoint pens out there. Doesn't skip. Solid edc pen. Worth every penny.
I'm 48, have been using Jotters since primary school and I still do, but I must admit, as you rightfully observed, that the machining isn't great (anymore). This used to be different. It changed 'round the time they modified the top of the button from concave to convex. Since then, the text 'Parker, Made in France/USA/UK' (In my younger days USA used to be the most current here in Belgium, then later France. UK for Parker models other than the Jotter) has become hardly legible as well. Also, the threading has changed. This however for the better: Before the threading used to be very fine and would give problems with the non stainless steel models where the plastic threading would wear off pretty easily... But for 8 bucks...a winner! Keep up the good work Nick! Best regards
8$? I wish. They're €20 in Europe unfortunately. Still worth it if you ask me, not expensive but not really cheap either. The regular jotter is €11 IMO Parker really is a good benchmark of a pen, comfortable dimensions, solid quality, not expensive, good looking, ubiquitous and nice ink.
For the first year I heard you talk about this in your other videos I thought it was the Parker Jahta. Man your accent is so amazing, it's impossible not to like
OMG Nick, I like your taste and style. I've had my Parker Jotter for about 30 years. It came in a set with a 0.7mm [correction: 0.5mm] mechanical pencil (which I still also have). I also have a plastic-barreled jotter somewhere that is about the same age or maybe older. (I think it's out in my truck.) I wasn't aware of the gel refills, I'll have to check them out.
I had jotters in the past especially in high school. But I was clumsy back then and lost a couple. Now, I think I'm more responsible with my pens and bought another Jotter for my everyday carry. I got their new all-steel colored barrel pens. It's great to have a Jotter again.
Hi! I didn’t realise you reviewed pens as well as watches. Nice to find another pen/watch nerd :) Parker have been my favourite every day pens since my 70s school days. The new London landmarks series is very cool looking too and still cheap. Thanks for the vids. Cheers!
I remember back in 2009 when I got my first Parker pen my freshman year in high school. I’ve been using them ever since. When I got a job at amazon, I bought about 10 Parker pens from amazon for about 70-80 bucks. Now I’m in school for aviation and everyone always ask where can they get one after I let them borrow mine. And they help me with my penmanship too. The weight of the pen feels good to me and everyone else I guess too
Thanks to your channel I now carry a gold Sheaffer Targa fountain pen with gold nib. I went from a $2 roller ball to gold, granted just plate on body and cap, since February. A link to Goulet Pens did me in. I do like fountain pens though.
I love the Parker jotter, especially in brushed stainless - it's a bona-fide design classic, and looks a lot classier and more expensive than it actually is. That loud click is a design feature as far as I'm concerned - it's as distinctive as a Zippo lighter. My only real criticism is that it's not very grippy for extended periods of writing - I sometimes work scribing exam essays for disabled students, and for that I prefer something with a rubber grip section. But for general everyday use, the Jotter can't be beat IMHO.
I just got this pen, love it so far. Quick question: how would you use a space pen refill with it? I prefer to write with space pens because I live in Canada and my pen regularily gets hit with -30°C weather and its nice when it can still work through that.
I like the stainless 45 Jotter (flighter) and the twist action insignia jotter. It deploys silently....for nighttime missions. I also have a first year parker jotter but it's a collectable of course. Will post pictures on your facebook page this evening.
I've had this pen in my EDC for over 4 years and have never had a problem with it. I got quite surprised you made a review on it. Love your videos, keep doing you.
I EDC a Jotter with a steel top and black plastic bottom. It's perfect for my office use. It looks nice and feels nice, but doesn't draw attention to itself. It's inexpensive enough that I wouldn't cry if it got up and walked away, but it's nice enough and unique enough that no one accidentally carries it away from where I lent it to them (usually my desk, some times a meeting room). I just had a conversation the other day with a coworker about how she had to keep walking around and fishing her G2s out of her supervisor's pencil cup.
I found one of these randomly in the grass while i was hanging out with friends, i dont know if that is filthy but it was clean and looked nice so i wanted to keep it, and man I love this pen...
I think you might be able to cut a little bit of the spring to reduce the noise, but it might screw up the pen. Also, 2 more things I like about this pen is that is comes in a good variety of patterns/colors and that it is pretty versatile in refills (I'm personally using an OHTO Gel refill and it is cheaper than the standard Parker refill in where I live).
Classic. Retraction rotates ink cartridge for even wear on ballpoint. Looked for concave, signed clicker button on vintage models. Thanks for the review.
My friend gave me this pen as a parting gift when we graduated from our foundation study. Needless to say, it is one of the best pens that I have. In my country, Parker is considered as a high-end brand. So I think I'd be sad if I lose the it. Haha.
Hey Nick, I like steel pens because I find plastic ones to always break on me. But I have a Jotter Stainless and it's over 10 years old. Granted I don't hardcore use it but i have no other writing utensil that old. To me it's like a Tenacious or RAT1, nothing special or flashy but does just fine. And yea my clip is overextended slightly because I bent it while wearing it in a jeanspocket. Good video and I'm looking forward to the perfect budget edc video. Greetings, Soly
The 'ol Parker Jotter still holds it's own. I have one but I find the barrel a bit too slim for my old fingers. My EDC pen is a Pentel BL407 silver aluminum EnerGel. A bit thicker barrel with nice texturing and a W-A-Y better pocket clip with the smoothest writing/drawing gel ball I've come across. Solid aluminum keeps it light in the pocket. About $8
Speaking of $8 pens, you might really like the Tombow Airpress. It has been my EDC so far an I really like how it writes and I especially love the springy wireclip.
I have 2 Parker Jotter Stainless Steel pens. The only difference is one has engraved "Made in UK N" and the other has engraved "Made in UK N.1". Is there a difference between them in terms of authenticity/quality/manyfacturing date?
Hey Nick, thanks for the quality review. I have a quick question for you. I have read that Parker Jotters have some tip wiggle even when using Parker's Quink refills. How is it in your experience? I am looking into buying a Jotter and beginning my pen edc journey. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
My grandpa bought me pens. I don't know why. But it was always a Parker Jotter. My grandpa passed this year. I will always be writing with Parker Jotters.
@@user-qi5jw2hg1c He shows us that there's a standard Parker gel refill inside and that you can use Fisher inside. How it writes is completely dependent on the refill, and Parker/Fisher refills are probably THE most common ballpoint and gel refills in existence aside from the shitty plastic tube ones found everywhere. It'd be redundant to go over it at this point.
Nick Shabazz Great review! How do the Quink Gel carts compare with the Schmidt Easy Flow 9000? Think I mentioned to you that I've replaced my 'parker style' pens with that refill and love the performance. But if the Quirk Gel is even smoother, I'll give it a shot.
For the "Perfect Budget EDC" video: Pen: Parker Jotter Flashlight: The one in your phone (!) Pocketknife: R2D2 or Opinel 0008 Multitool: NiteIze Doohickey Wallet: AllEtt original Watch: Casio Terrorist or 108 Lighter: Bic Total cost $60-$80ish That's a beautiful thing, case freakin' closed!
Hello Nick! Fantastic review. If you like the Parker Jotter then I recommend you take a look at the Cross Century Classic! It is pretty much the Parker Jotter but without all of the tiny negatives you didn't like (like the loud click). Personally I think the Medallist version is the best value.
love ur review..cool dude,,i had two parker 25s back in the early 80s in school..lol..and loved my paper mate profile, chrome and brown and am sure i had another too...just bought some of the parker jotters today
in all seriousness, pekin community highschool has a rule against steel pens because someone impacted someone with this exact pen. i say impacted because it didnt do anything but bruise the victim.
Sure, but the AG-7 is $45. Don't get me wrong, I have an AG-7 because I'm kind of an Apollo nerd. But I think he was emphasizing how economical the Jotter is.
I just carry a double sided sharpie with the normal point and extra fine tip in it but I've recently added a 3" by 5" notebook to my EDC and the ink on those bleed quite a bit causing me to write bigger. Thanks for a heads up about a nice pen for under $20. also are your links affiliate links? I'd like to help out the channel any chance I get.

My grandpa always had a Parker jotter, and it's my favorite as well, even the half plastic ones since they remind me of my grandpa.
Was he half plastic?
Barney The Dinosaur lmaooo
@@braderslooloo his grandpa had so🤣
I actually prefer the half-plastic ones, because I find them easier to grip. My fingers slip too much on all stainless steel pens.
I'm watching a pen review.. And i like it!

Nick, I've used one of these on and off since the 60s. It's a classic. Cannot be beat, especially for the price. Thanks.

Parker ball points are so smooth writing. The Jotter never disappoints.
It's just a pen, but it's been my favorite since high school (1971 graduate). They were called "T-BALL JOTTER then.
I bought a Parker Jotter pencil, Parker Jotter ballpoint and one Parker Jotter fountain pen back in 1983. I used them throughout school, university and graduate studies, and they lie on my desk today. Absolute priceless, the best writing tools I ever have had.

Dan Hauswald yo omg we have the same thing
Dan Hauswald where the larker jotter made in ?china?or antoher?
@@charischandra8894 Jotters are made in France actually.
I prefer the full steel version to the plastic, Mines is a full steel with a gold clip and I think the steel grip is quite nice
The Jotter is a true workhorse. Great pen.
Your accent made me smile. I own a Parker pen as well. Nice review. 🙂
2019 and the price is more like $18.
18 bucks 2021
Haha.
Hey Nick,
I like steel pens because I find plastic ones to always break on me.
Greetings,
Soly
The 'ol Parker Jotter still holds it's own. I have one but I find the barrel a bit too slim for my old fingers. My EDC pen is a Pentel BL407 silver aluminum EnerGel. A bit thicker barrel with nice texturing and a W-A-Y better pocket clip with the smoothest writing/drawing gel ball I've come across. Solid aluminum keeps it light in the pocket. About $8
Speaking of $8 pens, you might really like the Tombow Airpress. It has been my EDC so far an I really like how it writes and I especially love the springy wireclip.
Saw this review and decided to buy it! Thanks brother, great video!
I like the Parker products and have this in steel and steel/ plastic combo. Dependable, nice writing and easy to deal w/ loss if it happens.
I’ve been using them for years. Love em. Gel refill? Where do we get them? link?
I have a Parker Jotter that I inherited from my grandmother. Originally, I gave it to her as a present. :-)
I just got one at staples tonight on your recommendation
Almost eight minute of review and you never show how it writes. Why? And also, why?
That's what I noticed, too. Reviews a pen (you know, those things you use to write with) and NEVER WRITES.
It writes like a pen
With ballpoints, ain't that more about the refill you use?
There is literally nothing to a ballpoint pen be it a montblanc or a bic. They write the same
@@user-qi5jw2hg1c He shows us that there's a standard Parker gel refill inside and that you can use Fisher inside.
Wow, simply wow. This pen is amazing. I wish I had one (and I had them last spring, a fountain one and a ballpoint one)
I freakin' love your accent, Mister. You should get into voiceovers or radio.

That's a beautiful thing, case freakin' closed!
I like the loud click. One of my favorite ways to irritate my wife.
Its the only pen I use! Slim and fits nicely in ur jacket and at work in your office!
Hello Nick! Fantastic review. If you like the Parker Jotter then I recommend you take a look at the Cross Century Classic! It is pretty much the Parker Jotter but without all of the tiny negatives you didn't like (like the loud click). Personally I think the Medallist version is the best value.
I was desperately looking for a good pen for poking but didn’t know which to buy. Thanks for clearing that up. 🤣👍
Used to use the pen+pencil set on duty, worked great for me and took some beating.
Nice review! On the ball as usual!
Parker jotter with gel ink refill is my Jam!
Great review. What are the names of the beautiful fountain pens at the end of the video? Many thanks.
love ur review..cool dude,,i had two parker 25s back in the early 80s in school..lol..and loved my paper mate profile, chrome and brown and am sure i had another too...just bought some of the parker jotters today
This pen looks too murdery.
James Min OMG. I lost it. hahahaha
in all seriousness, pekin community highschool has a rule against steel pens because someone impacted someone with this exact pen. i say impacted because it didnt do anything but bruise the victim.
jozsua mcdonald I used a steel Parker Jotter all through high school
Hahaha
Jugular Puncher.
This was an awesome review!
Fisher AG7 is where its at. Parker is nice and all but the build quality of an AG7 is FANTASTIC!
Do you have a review of the Hinderer Investigator Pen?
That sound your saying is loud, is the Parker Jotter pens signature sound. Some love it, others hate it.
