It always pains me to see Kurt in 94. Clearly he wasn’t in a good place.
Clearly they should have paused “Nirvana” from all duties. So Kurt could have got better mentally and maybe gotten treatment for his drug addiction. I think the pressure made him do more drugs and with personal problems and bad mental health issues isn’t a good combination, it’s a nightmare to say the least.

For sure, there where people in the industry who made huge money off of the band so i can see how they wanted him always on as in performing, recording etc and he needed a break . I think if he took the rest of 94 off after he tour ended in June he would have possibly in a better place . Who knows but it goes to show the industry will strip you to the bone to gain a profit from your talent.

People say" Well he was rich take a break or " How can he be so sad hes rich" Totally lose the plot. Yes he was rich but he had to pay a price to be in that position when it comes to his Art, and mental and health being . All That Glitters is Not Gold.

For sure. A huge tour when you've hit the downhill portion of your heroin addiction would be a nightmare. I've been there and going in to work for a mere 8 hours was enough to make me want to run far away. Just imagine how you'd feel if your job was a year long tour. I totally get it.

Totally agree. Nobody wants to stop the money train.
Been lisyening to stories from other celebrities, like Dave Chappelle and Motley Crue, and the whole thing turns into this weird machine thats difficult to stop. Puts a ton of pressure on people (as well as any personal problems they have) and yeah... Lots of people depending on this cash cow, money train. Very weird situation to be in. Its no wonder crazy sjit happens.

I remember when Nirvana toured Australia in 1992. My brother wanted to buy a cassette from some band, I can't remember who, and as we were about to walk into the legendary Waterfront Records in Sydney CBD, out walked this really tall guy, this other fella that was jumping around and this smaller, quiet guy. My brother turned to me and asked "Do you know who that is?" I replied no, and he said "That's that Nirvana band we're hearing about." I didn't think too much of it at the time, but after I heard Nirvana I took up drums.

It costs SO much money to set up these events that if someone (especially one of the biggest selling bands in the world atm) pulls out, ofc they’re gonna sue. The music business is taxing. If Kurt knew from the jump he didn’t wanna do it he shouldn’t have done it. If that would have caused problems with his band or in his relationship with Courtney love then fuck them. What would he have thought of Radiohead going from Pablo Honey to OK Computer or Kid A? What would Cobain think of Modest Mouse emerging from the Olympia scene to release its first few albums? What would he think of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? Of the shift of music in general that decade?
He missed out on this neat stuff by a matter of a few years really. Even if he never made another record or quit music entirely, he'd have at least witnessed some cool shit had he stuck around.

I remember when this was announced about them playing Lollapalooza, and me thinking it was going to be THE BIGGEST thing for that summer(and it WAS, even without them).
It's weird how this year (1994) was a giant turning point of punk rock and how it ended with all the rock music magazines having either Green Day or Kurt's Face on the cover.
My friends and i went to Lollapalooza that summer in Houston, and there were kids with T-shirts of R.I.P. w/ Kurt's Face crowdsurfing to Green Day and The Beastie Boys. A lot of people say that was the year grunge died too.
Fat Mike said that its because of Nirvana that bands have been able to make a living off of punk rock and live well, i.e. The Offspring, Green Day, Bad Religion, Rancid, Pennywise).

I was at that listed Lollapalooza show @ Dominguez Hills/Los Angeles. The absence of Nirvana/Kurt Cobain was the elephant in the room topic/not a topic(if that makes sense). It was felt but not so much discussed. It was a great day despite circumstances.
About any “biographies” regarding people in the. entertainment business, especially in popular music or “rock” “punk” “metal”... should be taken with a grain of salt weighing one ton. I work in the entertainment business here in LA. Ive known a few “celebrities.” I sometimes read something about someone in print, and for a second believe what I read. Then, I stop myself and say to myself, “No. They are not like that, nor did that probably not happen.” Even “autobiographies” by artists/musicians are distorted, Ive learned to never believe what i read. Facts are often distorted in the “entertainment business” and the arts for vested interests.
A big regret for me was never seeing Nirvana live. I regretted not getting Nirvana tickets for a show at the LA Forum. It was a few months before he died. I remember specifically about passing on the gig thinking I’d just see them later at something like Lollapalooza.

I can see how a band starts drifting apart, especially after they've become millionaires!!! Everyone is putting in their all on the debut album, and maybe second, but after you have sold millions of albums and become a millionaire your attitude starts to change. Now you have all that money to enjoy but you can't really enjoy it while making records and touring.

Sad how much Kurt changed. I definitely think due to Heroin. He went from young and hungry living for music playing anywhere they could for small sums of money anytime they could. After 1991 it seems he did everything in his power to avoid playing live. There were proposed spring and autumn of 92 tours Kurt vetoed immediately. I'm sure the exhaustion of their schedule in 91 played a small role in it but ultimately it was Kurt's addiction.

Horrible guilt and pressure for Kurt.

    - if it was an issue like this one, touring, where they had been heavily over-toured and treated like sheep already since Nevermind, or if it was other incidents like those people called in by C. Love to confront Kurt over his drug use - the bottom line was always the same: Kurt was sick of everybody pushing him and hacking on him - people disregarding they we're touring already to the physical and mental limits - also he was sick of being overcontrolled, literally stalked by C. Love at home as at every step of the way, not being left the space and time to be with himself to even write new stuff (like he was much better of on - with Tracy Marander who understood that he needed his time alone to create his stuff). All those people now hacking on him was his item to be opposition against. The conflict was that he would have listened to his bandmates, on more effort for touring as much as on stepping back from drugs. But doing this would have let him look like giving in to his ''wardens'' C. Love and the ..mob.. from the industry. All those had now money and jobs because of Nirvana and he did want them to leave him space to even make more Nirvana, by being left alone - at home and also without getting sent on tours endlessly to the ruin - to e able to write new stuff and new concept. // Very simple. An almost classic conflict that most people around here might now by it's model. Pressure by ..greedy or dismissive(arrogant) people .. resulting in defiance, which unfortunately is backed up by very sane non-childish reasons ( like in Nirvana's particular case: 'Don't keep over-touring us')// Simple?

Given what people have said about his mental state at the time - no.
Given that Kurt was at least at one time big into the cultural importance of folks like Hendrix, Morrison, or Janis Joplin and of Woodstock in general, writing in his younger days about joining the "27 club" and wanting to be a big rockstar when he's older - maybe if the price was right. I've actually thought about this before, compared the dates of Woodstock 94 to when Kurt's real decline happened in earnest.
Not sure if the invitation was even offered or the idea floated but Woodstock 94 might've appealed to the band, for the novelty if nothing else. 94 does have the popular distinction of being the second-best Woodstock. For whatever that's worth.
