I enjoyed watching this, I have read somewhere that the first 3 slaughterhouses were used as air raid shelters for the school that was directly above and across the street - there many have been a tunnel at some point going to that but I'm not certain - there are many underground tunnels in Monmouth but unfortunately they are inaccessible and blocked up.
I didn't know that, i wish i knew at the time. I looked up the history on it but couldn't find much at all. Its nice to know though, I had a feeling those tunnels wit back further. Thank you for the information, thanks for watching.
Lol So do I, and we don't... it's full of kids. Smoking and skiving school... 20 years ago I was one of them. In the last few years, there have been talks about renovating them into a promenade but the cost of structural surveys and the potential repairs required was seen as a "can of worms" by Monmouthshire County Council.
I had no idea about it myself, someone wrote to me and told me about them being there so just drove up to take a look. They are up the top of the town underneath the museum. Check them out they are quite interesting.
Yes theres a lot of interesting stuff down there. Its such a shame that its been hidden for years. I can imagine it could make some nice trendy wine bars as it is in the town. Or it should be protected.
Cool Romanesque architecture! I have less difficulty to envision it as a wine vault or a mushroom farm. Two uses this place would be excellent for if fully refurbished. How about the upper section? You cannot explore it? 9:40 I side with you in this one. It certainly served to create cooked meats like blood sausages. It requires a long cooking process to sterilize the entrails and blood accordingly. I didn't know that Brits call these blood pudding. Funny name.
The upper building is now a museum. They could make these into trendy wine bars. Which i think would be great along there. But keep the old original features in them. Thank you for watching.
Great vid mate, enjoyed the explore. Your right about the forgotten history, mind blowing when you do a little research. got you subbed bud gonna have a binge on your vids, cant wait for more. hope you check out my channel lots to come as i research my area. if you get up to north wales hit me up can show you a few cool places. stay safe an be lucky!!
I don't know about spending the night there...its creepy enough in the day...lol. I think the homeless stay there at night. Yes they used to throw all the blood and guts into the river back in the day. I think its because they didn't have fridges on those days lol.

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
I live in Monmouth most people don’t go down there as they say it’s haunted or stuff and if I were you I wouldn’t go down there at night!

Such a weird place, never seen a slaughterhouse in an area like that! Really interesting video :)
yes it is a bit of a strange place but the market used to be directly above so in those days in 1834 it was easier for them, thanks for watching.
Thank you for a really interesting video x
