Thanks so much for making this Gordon it was such a nice day chatting with you and showing you around, and seeing how much you loved it means a great deal to me. Looking forward to meeting up again some day soon!
Thanks Neil, you've done an amazing job - I lOVED it and it was great to meet you and the team. Thanks again for your time for the interview - I couldn't resist including early Neil with the cap and hoodie!
You’ve done an amazing job there, has to be said. Even with how the space is clad. The residential issue turned out to be a godsend. Years ago, I had a mini space invaders game I got from somewhere as a present. It was kind of like a micro cabinet thingy and digital display for that purpose. Might even be a Grandstand, cannot remember. Don’t know what happened to it. It did batteries or dc I think. Still there is Classic Invaders on the CPC :)
I really liked your video/commentary about Neils Cave/Retro Museum. And I definitely agree, the the cave is a piece of love and passion. I'm looking forward to visit the cave this year as I'm forced from business to visit Gloucester. Going south to see the cave would be a welcome distraction....
8:16 glad you liked my collection of handheld games I lent to Neil, most came from car boot sales in the late 90s & 2000's, I had fun collecting all the games I could never afford as a kid in the 80s. Before handing them over last October I carefully took each one apart and cleaned them down to their individual buttons & switches to make them look like new after a decade of gathering dust on my shelves.
They were definitely a highlight for me, and have inspired me to go on the hunt for a Puck Monster! I only have an Astro Wars and Galaxy Invader right now! Loved all those handheld games...
Thank you Gordon for making this video. I had no idea you were filming this mini-documentary, complete with an interview with Neil when we were there. Now I have a video to show to people where I went, filmed on the very same day that I was there. 😄 One thing to note is that while I've enjoyed looking at all the systems you've pointed out, I'm more nostalgic for the 16 bit era in the 90s, and there was plenty to enjoy from that era for me as well - from the usual suspects to exotic devices such as the X68000, CD-i, 3DO, LaserVision, Amstrad Mega PC and so much more. I've spent the whole day in the Cave, and am still longing to go back - too bad it's quite the trip for me, as I live in Munich and travelled there with a friend for the Cave. It was a brilliant weekend, since we've also really enjoyed Bath and the Cotswolds.
I remember seeing you there! I hope you didn't mind me filming, but hopefully it is a nice memory! I agree, there were some great 16 bit systems there which are quite unusual - I did have some footage of all of them, but already the video was getting too complicated so I decided to get it out sooner rather than later! I think one of the best things about The Cave is the sheer wealth of both popular and unusual systems across a long period, rather than concentrating on the easy stuff. Hope you get to visit again soon, I feel bad now saying it's a bit far from Brighton! PS- another comment here said there was something similar in Berlin, do you know it?
This is so awesome! Reminds me of Classic Game Room on TH-cam but sooo much more vintage which is awesome! I love seeing this kind of stuff. Absolutely on the must visit list. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Great stuff! There's a less sophisticated and rather scruffier version of something similar in Hunts Valley, Maryland, near me. Great to see people preserving history!
Thanks! Believe it or not, I Haven't yet been to the one in Cambridge, although if it's the same one run by Simon Webb, they helped me with some machines to photograph for my Digital Retro book. Must check it out soon.
I have a Coleco Pacman, AstroWars, plus some of the game watch series like Donkey Kong duel screen, Pinball, Popeye, Oil Panic, The blue Tommytronic 3D and alot more.
Nice collection! They had some Coleco models there too, plus all those Tomy 3D goggle things! I loved those handhelds. Currently I only have a Galaxy Invader and Astro Wars, but I may need a Puck Monster!
I grew up on the Apple //e and //c (and to a lesser extent the IIgs) - my experience is a bit different than a lot of retro types. But I started on a lot of retro stuff when it was still new - and just stuck with it while it became old.
Me too, I owned about half of what was shown in this video when it was new and cutting edge! Speaking of the IIc, I'm actually trying to make a case for a retro project that looks similar to it.
Looks incredible, though if I visited I might want a paramedic and psychiatrist on hand in case of hyperventilation or just a full-on reverie-induced breakdown

Lovely chat with Neil. He really is the nicest guy in the retro tech community. And such a hard worker, he deserves all his success.
Definitely, he manages to combine ambition and vision with real down-to-Earthness and all-round niceness!
Brilliant video, thanks Gordon and Neil.
Wow, got a visceral response when that Electron popped up on screen
Exactly! There's something there that will elicit that reaction from almost anyone - it's very comprehensive.
Magnificent that the stars aligned to make something like this sustainable for all parties involved. Love it.
Two of my favourite TH-camrs! What a treat!
Thanks! I really hope I can do another collaboration with Neil in the future...
Wow...waves of nostalgia indeed.

Blimey, being forced to visit Gloucester! Is that a punishment? Anyway, a visit to The Cave will definitely make it better!
That looks awesome! It´s great to have some tech history to touch and experience yourself.
Definitely, and refreshing to find exhibits from the 80's and 70's that still work!
OMGOSH that place looks amazing! It’s phenomenal that people came together to create something so fun 🤩
Definitely worth several visits!
So nostalgic. Thanks for taking back in time.
You're welcome! Shall I do more of these?
@@DinoBytes Yes, i would love to see more of these👍
This, and your Arcade Archive videos are great Gordon, thanks for doing them and putting so much effort in! Dinosaurs rule!
Thanks for watching them both! I really enjoyed my visits and putting them together!

brilliant gordon you helped me out many years ago choosing my first DSLR
great to see you again
Great to have you comment, thanks! I still make camera reviews every week on my mail channel, so do keep an eye on it too!
That looks like a nice place to spend time. Great attention to detail.
It's amazing!
Great video! And great museum indeed! A piece of art and love!

It’s such an amazing project they have going on, just wish it was a little closer to me
Me too!
Lovely! :)
I am one of Neil:s Patreon supporters so I am a small part of the success!
Thanks! I didn't realise you were an official Cave Dweller! Hope you enjoyed the tour... have you been?
Yes you are! And thank you for your support Sina!
@@DinoBytes Not yet, hopefully I will make a visit soon.
A great video - I really enjoyed this. Thanks!!
Thanks James, I enjoy your videos too! In fact I just realised I WASN'T subbed to you, so I've fixed that!
Amazing place - need to visit someday :).
Hope you get to visit soon!
Great stuff!

Nice! What are your favourite machines?
Hi Gordon, great video, must visit. Have you ever been to the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge? They have a lot of retro stuff as well.
Thanks! Believe it or not, I Haven't yet been to the one in Cambridge, although if it's the same one run by Simon Webb, they helped me with some machines to photograph for my Digital Retro book. Must check it out soon.

This looks great. There’s a very good computer games museum in Berlin as well. Maybe they should have a twinning arrangement. :-)
What is the name of the one in Berlin?
Thanks! What's the name of the Berlin one, I'll pay a visit...
a time machine for all of us 50+ 🙂
Exactly! I feel many retro cafes assume we're all under 30s!
I grew up on the Apple //e and //c (and to a lesser extent the IIgs) - my experience is a bit different than a lot of retro types. But I started on a lot of retro stuff when it was still new - and just stuck with it while it became old.

puckmonster!! wohooo
I know, right?!
@@DinoBytes yeah i've got one :)
Where is this place? Stroud?
Chalford which is just outside Stroud
Yep, what Neil RMC said below!
Is just me, or he looks different in front of Gordon's lens?
Hmm, interesting! Well I was filming in a different format and with a different lens, so there's that...
