The great Brian Moore, the best commentator ever, consumate professional in and out of the studio with interviews etc... (RIP Bryan) - No wonder you often hear Martin Tyler (his protege) paying his respects to his mentor. COYS
@@thelstanedwardsson4374 I found it a bit sombre tbh. Compelling but sombre. Jimmy never seemed to glow talking about his career. He says he enjoyed being a pundit more. I always wonder was he a a functioning depressive? I had a family member who was - who also drank but also had a sense of humour like Jimmy. He looked at life like it was a farce. I'm not even Tottenham but I loved Jimmy.
I was in the Roker End that afternoon. I've had my share of disappointments following Sunderland, but nothing quite as sickening as that late Brighton winner. And we all knew it was going to happen. Meaningless final games of the season were something other clubs did.
Howard Gayle I think went on to have a good career with Blackburn Rovers. Funny to think Ian Rush's Liverpool career was as early as this. What a Spurs team back then!
I watched this on ITV4 the other day - it was the first edition of The Big Match that I ever saw. Ever since I've especially wanted to see again the Spurs/Liverpool highlights - I remember Howard Gayle's goal, and Phil Neal's headed clearance from Garth Crooks' lob, but I'd forgotten about Hoddle's goal for some reason!
@@kailashpatel1706 To be fair Cowans wasn't in the class of Robson, Wilkins or Hoddle. When you think Jimmy Case never got a cap and Kennedy/McDermott only got 20 odd it was tough. Statham was no Sansom either and Regis was not international class.
@@bazza-e9tIf you mean Ray Kennedy?...Peter Taylor, Clough's right hand man berated Greenwood's misuse of him..McDermott was a player of real calibre and who did not play a minute of the 1982 WC...He should have been slotted into the right midfield in the game against Spain in that WC, not Trevor Francis!..
@@kailashpatel1706 Yes Ray Kennedy. Greenwood always preferred Brooking on the left. By 82 both were past their best and Rix played. I think Coppell was wide right with Francis central with Mariner. McDermott was so so good.
26:31 The FA were strict on discipline in those days - I seem to remember that even sending-offs in pre-season friendlies could result in suspensions from league games.
Bizarre that on LWT big match its not the main game ? Very brief highlights, which to be fair was unusual, any reason ? stand out game of the day never mind in London
Hoddle, without doubt was an excellent footballer, But Greenwood knew his limitations, He was a bit like Le tissier, full of skill, but too lazy to track back, Certain managers cannot abide by that type of player,

Check out his interview with Jimmy Greaves on Jimmy's career.
About an hour long. Absolutely brilliant
The same school produced Brian Moore, Barry Davies and Peter West

A truly wonderful time to be a young football fan. I was 12-years-old. Many thanks for the upload.
Fantastic “stitch that!” tackle by Richie. Considering the importance of the game, Roker Park seemed strangely subdued

Great upload. Hoddle and Ardiles were a magical combination and both look at their peak here in 81.
Very sad that Ron Greenwood didn't pick Hoddle.
and Cowans, Statham, Devonshire, Morley, Regis, Anderson or rather did not build a team around these talents with a view to that 1982 WC...
who was assistant coach? Don Howe.

I was watching that Brighton fiasco from the Fulwell End; what on earth was Rowell doing in midfield?

Sunderland won at Liverpool 1-0 to say up Norwich went down with Leicester and Palace
İ am your scriber. Like from me
And of course England were so successful under Greenwood NOT picking Hoddle who was easily England's best player at the time!!
Hoddle class

Yep, they was a minimal workrate with him, England did not use Gordon Cowans at the time as well who married skill with workrate..
