    My only question with this fix is that you have replaced the fuse with a blob of solder, so it won't be the same rating as the fuse that was previously on the battery.
    Isn't it likely that IF (and a big if) that cell was faulty and the solder stays connected and not blow, could this cause a thermal runaway effect with the cell/cells and cause a fire?

    • @piernov

      The battery board should still have MOSFETs that can be turned off by the battery controller, but yes, removing a safety is *never* a good idea in a lithium battery, and here we even already have hints that a cell may be going bad.
      Btw the fuse is specially designed so that an external trigger can blow it (from the battery controller in case of a permanent failure event, which is a safety mechanism), if you fill it with solder that won't work as intended either.
      This battery should definitely not go back in the machine like this. Better have it disposed of and get a replacement one.

    • @GregM

      What could possibly go wrong with Li-ion batteries. its not like they can overheat while the laptop is charging in the middle of the night and cause a fire and burn down a building and everyone in it. That would never happen. Geez /s

    • @jaym5938

      Hard to tell in this video; but, if there's anything left of the fuse medium then a solder blob just reconnected what was left and there's still enough material to blow again if needed. Otherwise, this is no longer a fuse, it's a bridge and a short waiting to happen.

    • @SidneyCritic

      Just get 4 LiPos in series and short it with low-melt solder and see what happens. I'm guessing the high discharge rate of LiPo will melt it, ie, assuming 3000mh x 4 cells, C1 rate is12A, C4 is 48A.

    Amazing fix. What I never understood was, if the chip has all the information about the cells, why can't it deal with unbalanced cells? I mean, not the program, but the battery controller itself. It should be more intelligent than "I can only recharge balanced cells" by now...

    • @electricelectronich9979

      laptop batteries controllers dont have external cells balancer on the pcb, just integrated microbalance circuit inside the AFE of the chip. Its throughout (5mA typ) is so low that it cant equalize such a big voltage difference like shown in the video. It could only handle deviation up to 30mV and only during charging. So unbalances over 50mV should be fixed manually.

    The battery cell probably has a different SoC, this battery is not fixed. The fuse blew because there was more current because the voltage dropped and the DC/DC converter line of the laptop increased the current draw or, it has something to do with that bad capacity of one cell with low voltage. The laptop is now probably dangerous because the battery can overheat and catch fire. I would definitely replace the battery with a new one.
