Thanks for the review Jimmy, yoi are the first on youtube getting out these new Cold Steel reviews. I am a big fan of Cold Steel and am loving these new little fixed blades. I live in AZ so I could carry any size but at work I can only carry 4in or less. So these and the Kyotos seem like great little edc fixed blades. Hope you have a great one brother.

I just got this knife. I do like it a lot, but then again I like everything I got from cold steel.ihave the spikes and the spartan as well. All great knives all very stabby and all very sharp out the box..... I haven't tried them out for taste thoug🤔

Jim...great mini...got the leatherneck tanto....interesting you brought it up about the sheath...would love for you to watch my video on Kabar mod tanto and history just posted yesterday...I also included the CS. as a comparison...people have stated the same with the glass filled sheath has promoted or caused dulling the blade...so it doesn't seem to be an issue with you?

found a way to mount this to furniture, keep at least one in every room just in case, such as mounted under my pc chair, close to hand and easy to use, love these

@@Jimislash i always preferred a knife, and ive got displays on most of my walls of my entire knife collection, and what people dont really notice is that every knife is sharp and easy to grab, and as my grandfather used to say "at the end of the day, even a blunt knife can still do some damage"

This looks like an improvement over the counter tac 2? How would this compare to the Bowie spike?
The Spikes are longer and skinnier. Their handles are better for a saber type grip. If I could only have one, I'd take a Spike.

Is this knife meant for stab? Idk i kinda dissapointed when when i try to slash a bottle or cardboard it just won't go through easily or my technique is bad. Maybe the clip point one would've done the job better. But in terms of stabbing it's really good. Idk if that's the advantage of double edge? Idk im new to this stuff
It won't be a great slasher, due to the shortness of the blade, but if you practice a little, it should leave some quick flick cuts on stuff. Definitely a stabber.
If that handle tasted like brisket we would have a totally different review! Liked the previous one better much more practical in everyday scenarios and probably just as stabby due to the tanto shape of blade. Would love to see side by side stabby testing of all three.

The blade length is fine. I could use another half inch on the handle to make it a little better.

I can see that working good as fishing knife and working really well at many other task to with that guard and double edge. I would probably dull one side to make it a single edge blade for legal reasons. But its a good design for a neck knife.
There are some other options for this knife. Tanto, drop point...
I have an old heavy punching bag that I use for stab testing and I'm going to have to pick up the leatherneck to test out

This knife is meant to be held below hilt with thumb and index fingers. Then bury handle in palm. Thrust and then punch through ... from tench warfare WW2

The Mini Leatherman is similar to the smaller cousin of the Sai Pan. Lynn Thompson's Sai Pan video uses it as a twister (to make a big hole). It is only a self-defense knife. I don't think you need super steel or heavy work, it's a stabber and twister. I want one, thanks Jim!

One I have been looking at is the Ontario "Old Hickory" double edge or Sticker Knife.
1095 steel.
I like the concept of a double edge knife as when one side gets dull just use the other side until you get a chance to sharpen it again.

I like those new, smal Cold Steel fixed blades. They look like great EDC knifes, as German law is less problematic with fixed blades for some unknown reason.
But I am more the Kyoto kind of guy.

Weird that governments choose different things to be concerned about. I'm in California in the USA. Here there's no length restrictions except on 'switchblades' but fixed blades have to be openly carried.

Check out the Safe Maker for that, too. Easy to grab and just start punching in the direction of whatever is trying to get you or your gun in a life or death situation.

Is that a steel guard? I was eye balling the clip point style blade.
It feels light, like aluminum.
A magnet 🧲 sticks to the guard, so it's not aluminum. Some kind of metal. Yes, I have one. The price came down on it on Amazon in 2024. It's like $19.50, and the Bowie one is $18.96 as of 2-14-24.

Saber grip didn't seem as stable with the shorter handle. I felt like the knife wanted to leave my hand.

If you wear belt loops everyday then zip ties and paracord for static carry. If you dont then wrap a little more paracord around your waist and tuck it in your waist line. Thats my remedy. Zip ties in general have changed the way i carry knives
