I love all the extra information and pictures and video that you add to your videos. You're making an extremely good quality product. You've done good, Bill.
This would blend right in with the (badly) modded Chryslers in the hood, especially with that poor-taste wrap. I doubt most people wouldn't even realize this is special.
@@ShawnFX I live in an eastern european country, but yeah you're right. Even here, you can notice a massive difference between people from the city and even just the surrounds of it. Everyone is pent up and will shout death threats at you within 20 seconds if you do something they don't agree with.
Dalton is GONE?!?! I can't believe this shit. He was so adorable...like that day you had the flat in that old Caddy and he came to your rescue. Granted, he did flip you off as you were standing there bitching while he was putting air in the tire, but that was just part of his charm that made him so lovable. And I began to love that it looked like he cleaned the windshields with a raw chicken leg, a trademark reminder of how wonderful he was. Bless his heart. Fuck.
That video with the '69 Caddy with the flat spare was probably the second Curious Cars episode that I saw, and probably the one that got me to subscribe.
I find it difficult to believe that the newer Rolls Royces have the panache of the earlier models. That kind of mystique is gone today. Back in the 1970s I had the pleasure of owning a Silver Wraith with a custom body by Rippon. It was a pretty two tone affair in silver and dark metallic grey. I drove it into Jack-in-the-Box to buy lunch. Of course on a Silver Wraith the bonnet precedes the customer by some length. All the kids in there came to the window at once and started asking me the strangest questions, like, "is the Flying Lady" ornament solid silver?" or "Is the engine sealed?" etc. All of us enjoyed the encounter a great deal. Today, some of that lore has fallen by the wayside.
British Royal Family didn't adopt Rolls-Royce for their main transport needs until the mid-1950s, up until that point it was Daimler that supplied the cars.
Great video and history lesson on Rolls Royce! I love it when Bill mentions the price of $280-$300K and say’s it practically a people’s car and I wonder if it floats? That company getting the Bentley nameplate ultimately! 😅
Hi Bill - Great review! Those C pillar mirrors are another long running historical feature and are meant to be used as vanity mirrors, a quick look before you get out of the car to face your adoring fans. I know they go back to the Silver Cloud days of the 1960s, maybe even before.
Farewell to the understated elegance that was the hallmark of Rolls Royce. I guess this one might not have been all that bad before the monied rapper got hold of it. Thanks for the history and background of the company, Bill.
... understated elegance. These days that would be a Bentley or a Toyota Century. In the UK, they say that the old money types drive Bentleys, the new money go for the Rolls.
@@jec1ny Modern Bentleys look more "sporty" and far less elegant to me, especially when compared to an Extended Phantom. I do agree about the Century however.
Hey Bill, what a pleasant surprise to see a Monday video!!! Another muggy shitty Florida day. This Rolls Royce is a nice touch of class!!! Thanks for sharing this exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
Maserati's Quattroporte platform is not shared with Chrysler. It's a rear-wheel-drive architecture from the Fiat group called the M156. That's also shared with the Levante and the Ghibli. The switchgear as well as the electronics are shared from Chrysler's parts bin.
From what I've read and listened about the buyout: BMW was on the way to finalizing the purchase of RR/Bentley when VW came into the picture. BMW knew that the then owners of both brands didn't own the right to the name Rolls Royce and Spirit of Ecstasy symbol. When VW outbid them, they just went and bought the rights to the RR name and symbol from the rightful owners. Funny detail: some people knew that the RR brand had different ownership and tried to warn Piech about it, but he wouldn't listen; after the deal was done, someone finally told Piech that he had just bought Bentley and the factory but not the RR brand. Apparently he didn't take the news that lightly, demanding that the ties with BMW were cut immediately, not knowing how much of the cars relied on BMW parts/components/assemblies. And this is the reason the old 6.75 V8 came out of retirement and was fitted once again on Bentleys, replacing BMW's V12. And a "gentleman's agreement" was made in that BMW continued to supply Bentley with parts until the then current models were replaced.
If I'm not mistaken it was a ten year agreement and during that time VW had to pay BMW royalties for the use of the name and use of the spirit of ecstasy
Its been 3-4 years now that before my final decision on a car I check with Bill’s reviews. Keep up the good work. Gonna definitely swing by to get a selfie with Bill. Much Love. ❤

I hate the bright white headlights that have become the standard on automobiles today, even on this 2012. Just too bright at night. How has this become acceptable in our society. I do not like to drive at night anymore. It is a hazard. It should be illegal.
Once your eyes adapt to LED headlights it’s almost impossible to see at night with halogens. I think Xenons were the best option. The brightness issue is because of aiming problems.
Thanks Bill, great review and lovely car, plus I can appreciate the heritage, but sadly it does nothing for me as a classic car guy. Hey Bill, don't ever change, anything. We like it just the way it is. It has been an interesting, coincidental, back to back review, between the Thunderbird, and the Rolls. On a quick pass, the Rolls is the absolute attention-getter and supposedly a way better car than an old Thunderbird could ever be. However after a more considered look, maybe the old Thunderbird is a more appealing car. It definitely makes a better sound under load and I think it will be a much better attention getter at any cars and coffee, so, Thunderbird suddenly steps up the grade a few notches while the Rolls setlles or maybe drops back a notch or two. Thunderbird is a much better looking car than the Rolls, although realistically you would surely never be choosing between one or the other as a purchase decision.
