    garny i watched a lot of youtube videos on different log splitters you are the king in ever categorys never seen you jam a log the way you use the 4 way and one man operation table level everthing worked flawless from what i could see i going to update mine like your old one for my needs great job thanks for sharing your knowledge going to make one of you dads special hitchs

    Holy Smokes! That is one impressive setup! That will set you in the Guinness World Records! That is a clever way of achieving such GPM without having to throw a few grand for parts! I am moving to the next video!

      Thanks Joe. I knew you’d understand and appreciate the cost per hp/gpm. I just revamped the control levers tonight. I’ll get it back out and some more footage. I’m still learning how to run all the levers and see what works best for positions of the wood pushing thru the wedge.

      @@FromSteelToWood I had to redo the fulcrum pivot and bring the load connection closer to it. The levers pulled pretty hard. Pulling 2 spools per one lever I need all the mechanical advantage I can get.

    That’s really interesting!! I’m collecting parts myself. Also have 2 motors with check valves. Thought it should work, but don’t think I’ve seen it before.

    Well thought out splitter. Love the dual gas engines. Your thoughts on the external oil cooler came on right as I wondering about if one was needed.
    Thermal conductivity of steel plate isn't great, but you could weld on steel or bolt on aluminum fins for a bit more surface area (inside and outside)...
    Keep up the great videos.

      Tom so far so good. I’m moving that heat along the whole longitude of the beam. When building I thought about adding some vertical cooling fins to help natural convection. so far the hottest I’ve seen is 130*f in 55*f ambient.

    Nice build! I think you will want to add an oil cooler, but otherwise it looks great!

      So far so good. I been running it hard and the warmest I’ve seen is 130*F in 55*F ambient. The way I have the oil returning into the beam (dump valve base end constant return wedge end) it really helps to distribute the heat throughout. I can always add vertical cooling fins to help convect heat naturally.

    Great idea about the horizontal wedge laying flat for just splitting in half.

      @@garny3766 Eastonmade. These are the Cadillac of splitters. Very pricey but a one time investment. All wear points are replaceable.

      @@bullybluecoal1831 yeah similar and as you said different design. I think he has 8-10” of exposed single vertical wedge when horizontal wedges are at or below beam. With mine you don’t loose any single vertical wedge height when lowering the 4way. I have 23” of vertical wedge. I followed timberwolf/Wolfe ridge design with a slight twist, I added small vertical wedges on the bottom of my horizontal wedges to create a box wedge when wedge is raised. It worked but I didn’t like the amount of trash the box wedge was creating so I removed them. EMs are world class splitters no doubt.

      @@garny3766 Interesting with the Single/4 way/box wedge design. I do like box wedges. Especially the pull back bar. I don't mind the "waste." Bark bits are always waste no matter what is splitin wood. The scrap pieces make good kindling.
      FWIW, I wasn't knocking your splitters. You build a good machine as well.

      Cylinder came from ruggedmade. Not much to see in shop other than a lot of snowmobiles waiting to get fixed

      @@garny3766 How many snow mobile tracks would it take to make a conveyor, think about all the drive and support wheels and maybe the tunnels ? junk machines are stacked up like cord wood all over the place.

    A question, would this be nearly the same with one motor driving a tandem pump? Leave the rest of the plumbing alone.

    Nice job, so how are those Duamax engines? The 18 HP has no trouble running the 28 gpm pumps?

      So far no. My other splitter I modded had a 15 hp running same pump. But again I’m running a 5” cylinder which allows me to run lower pressures 2200-2300psi. If a person wants to run 3500 on 28gpm pump an 18 hp probably ain’t gonna do it.

      @@garny3766 I have a 28 gpm 2000 psi pump with a 18 hp B & S, 4” bore 3” rod x 24”cylinder, I prefer the speed over tonage but engine is getting tired and considered replacing it with that Duramax 18 hp but didn’t know how they were, hard to beat the price.

    I finally got my center beam welded together , i was wondering if your ram was all the way against the pusher plate or back from it relying on the pin?

      Good to hear. Yes rod eye and push plate bushings were all machined out of a solid 2”x4” block of steel. When welded to push plate gussets, bushings, and rod eye were all set against back of push plate, 1.25” bolt inserted, then welded except for rod eye. Eye was then removed and welded to rod.

    Incredible build. I would have thought that going to a higher pressure and smaller ram would have worked out more cost effective than going to 2 28gpm pumps.
    Looking at the Dad's first use video it looks like something is fouling up the release of the return stroke auto cycle lever. Instead of the nice snap action it's got some hesitation.

      Alan oh yeah a smaller ram and one engine would definitely been more cost effective but what fun is that to do what everyone else did? my goal here was to prove I could move 56 gpms and still maintain a two stage pump setup. No one is doing that that I’m aware of. One thing is larger ram and lower pressures is easier on everything. And yes I have been messing with detents to get right setting. Oil temps play a big part in getting them working correctly.

      @@Alan_Hans__ well that’s why I work a full time job (which I’m heading to in a half hour) and run a side business that is just about a full time job too. No shortage of work around here in the trades. Only thing is it doesn’t leave much time to work on my own stuff. I had to back up my side work to complete this now I’m paying for it . People want there stuff yesterday!

    Would you mind sharing what cylinder you used on this build and where you purchased it? I'm weighing out all the parts to build something heavy duty like yours but having issues sourcing big cylinders like Easton and others use. Your splitter is bad ass btw, the fab work and proof of concept is top notch.

      It’s the same cylinder as what was on the 37 ruggedmade splitter I had. Yeah hard to find a big rod/bore cylinder.

      @@garny3766 That cylinder looks pretty beefy, can't see me needing much more than that. Thanks for sharing, I like to open source info and help other fabricators when I can, I did a bunch of that on my sawmill build and may do something for my splitter build. I read your post about having the splitter bug, I've been using a TSC for the last 5 years and built a hoist for it a few years ago. I heat with wood( I do not have a furnace) It's time for a real splitter or time to get a furnace one or the other. Thanks again, subbed to your channel.

      I think it would speed up and fit your TSC splitter just fine. Also most don’t need a 30” cylinder. I went with it cause I like my wood longer than 24”.

      @@garny3766 Is that valve not available at surplus? Apperance wise it looks like whats already on my tsc and some of the husky splitters I've seen but I'm no expert , plus I'm half blind. I'm definitely wanting 30" capacity, I'll be mainly feeding a boiler and a maple syrup evaporator both of which will accept 30" stuff. 24" sometimes is just a tad short and I don't mind waiting a few seconds.

      @@Tonnsfabrication not yet that I’m aware of. The do have a regeneration/rapid extend valve but it’s for low flow pumps and a lot of modifications to get it to fit up. This valve in the video I believe would be just a change out.
      Same here. When I had a box store splitter I would catch myself cutting blocks just a hair to long. 30” cylinder...problem solved😆

      Ruggedmade cylinder 5x30. ACVs and 28 gpm pumps from surplus center. A lot of hoses and fittings from surplus center as well.

      @@martygilpatrick9727 no h beam on it. Splitter beam is a fabricated box with gussets and baffles internal. Best analogy I give people is think of an excavator dipper stick.
