Hello and welcome back to today’s FD Explained where today we are putting forward the case for Mo Salah being the Premier League’s greatest ever winger.
Having already scored 100 Premier League goals, won the Premier League and helped the Reds’ secure an English record 6 European Cups, we believe that the former Chelsea flyer has already surpassed the likes of Eden Hazard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs as the Division’s best winger.
With a better goals+assists/game ratio then Shearer, Kane and Aguero, there is a strong argument that if Salah continues at his current level he could even join the discussion for the League’s greatest ever alongside Thierry Henry.

I do think there is an element to his "selfishness" that is a putt off for people. Kane scores a lot of goals, but is actually an amazing provider as well. Suarez was also a great assister. But at the end of the day, how could you ever not appreciate a dude that can give you 20 goals a campaign?

He’s scored no less than 19 goals in every single prem season he’s been in, and will likely happen again this season. If he isn’t now, by the time he leaves Liverpool he will be remembered as one of the greatest ever winger in prem history
If his whole game is goal scoring then that isn’t the biggest surprise

Informative. I didn't realize Salah's numbers were that fearsome. The narrative had always been that this underrated forward had been given a chance to impress and took it with both hands. We shouldn't forget that his roots are in Basel and Fiorentina, where he grew. Chelsea and Roma were just pitstops. Put in perspective, he really is phenomenal and not just a well-scouted forward who helped complete the Liverpool giant Klopp was building.
For those that are arguing Eden Hazard’s case. Your out of your mind. Mo Salah is almost twice the player Hazard ever was at Chelsea.

Salah is Liverpool's best and most consistent player. Losing him with cost Liverpool a lot more than keeping him. Also, Liverpool's contract are extremely performance dependent. So, they will pay when only they get a return.

That was the season with higauin and morata and willian were upfront with him and the one season where he had to create and score goals himself. He didn’t even miss either rlly. If he played in the Liverpool side he’d be better!
All they do is create chances for salah and mane all game. Henderson,wijnaldum who we know can score but is sacrificed just to create more chances for them, Milner and firmino too. They get around 5 big chances mane and salah way more than anyone and they do miss if I’m being honest!

He is and his numbers will continue to grow as long as he's at Liverpool. In his first season he outdid Ronaldo's best season at United in numbers. He deserves to be called the one of the best, if not the best winger to ever grace the Premier league. Imagine saying that about him when he was at Chelsea... he deserves so much more respect than what he gets. Very blessed as a Liverpool fan to have him.

To be fair Ronaldo did win multiple titles, the champions league and the ballon d or while at United. Plus he was young when he first joined, while Salah has spent most of his prime at Liverpool

Greatest ever winger for sure. I would argue that he's the greatest ever player, not on numbers alone. The man has been the most consistent, had the greatest influence on the team to actually manage to win the title during the era of Oil-Money Man City. This man will be remembered as the greatest to ever grace the English league. Make him a statue. Go on.

Salah is undoubtedly up there with the best in prem history but Hazard is always overlooked. Yes he didn't get as many goals and assists but he was playing in different systems to Klopp which weren't as attack heavy, and he performed under different managers. The man used to dribble past players like they weren't there. So silky and the perfect WINGER as the video says.

It doesnt really make sense to compare wingers just like you wouldn't compare fullbacks, like TTA compared to Irwin or Neville for example, the role has changed so much. Just because he's "technically a winger" doesn't mean the comparison is apt. For example, Salah is Liverpool's primary goalscorer, that was never Giggs' role at United. Obviously, you could make the argument that if Giggs was as good at scoring goals like Salah, he would be their primary goalscorer, but that's more of a " is Salah a better player than Giggs" rather than "is salah a better winger than Giggs"
Also only comparing Salah to other wingers does him a disservice, he definitely warrants being compared to players like Rooney, Aguero, Henry, Shearer Ronaldo etc. He's been simply world class from day 1 at Liverpool and arguably the third-best player in the world since he joined, only behind Messi and Lewandowski.

Ideas for future videos: You should look at video about UEFA Champions league surprise packages in the last 20 years - e.g. Maldova team that beat Real Madrid yesterday; Ajax, RB Liebsig & AS Roma's glorious road to the semi's in the last 4 seasons. This would be a great video. Just a suggestion.

To be honest, I must say salah has done well for himself but putting Ronaldo into the conversation is unfair because when Ronaldo came in he was still a teenager and had to mature a better part of his time at Manchester then was what I can tag the developmental stage though he did blossom for two seasons before he went to Madrid in the case, for Salah this is player that is at his peak and not new to the EPL and his fortunate enough to play in a team which technically he can fit into so kudos to salah and the coach for discovering him if he can't make it now doubt when he would ever make it.

Salah is more of a striker than a actual winger .He plays on the shoulder ,rarely dribbles ,he makes lay off runs in behind and receives the ball from lay off at pace and then he finishes.
Hazard played more of a creative role dropping deep to influence the game .Most of Hazards goal are of individual brilliance rather than of systemic play .That makes sense considering he played for Mourinho and Sarri who played counter attacking football .When Sarri came to Chelsea Hazards numbers improved by getting goal contribution of 34.
Giggs played more like a traditional winger hugging the touch line ,making crosses and going into box when necessary.
Ronaldo was playing like a natural winger too .
I think Salah is more of striker .His numbers are comparable to strikers rather wingers due to spaces he occupies ,where other wingers operating out on the winger or in the half spaces between the defence and midfield .Salah has had continuity playing for Klopp ,in comparison to Hazard

Your forgetting that Giggs wasn’t focused on goals. His dribbling, explosive pace and creativity were what separates him from other places. Comparing him with wingers like salah in terms of goals is simply unfair as that wasn’t what he brought to the team
You can compare total goal involvements though surely? That United team in Giggs' prime relied heavily on wing play. Keane bossed the midfield and Scholes was the goal scoring attacking midfielder but Becks and Giggs were the main creators.
If Salah was called "Saldinho" or "SalLorenzo" and he was representing Brazil or Spain, he would have been a global cult icon.

Salah is neither a proper number 9, nor a poacher. Still he manages to have such terrific numbers. His selfishness and lack of finishing prowess (in comparison with Kane) gets overshadowed by the sheer number of attempts Liverpool creates. That's why he is one of the greatest wingers in one of the most exciting teams! 🙏🏼

I seriously don't get the Ronaldo hype about his first Premier League tenure, he had one spectacular goal scoring season. Other than that his stats read:
1st season: 4 goals
2nd season: 5 goals
3rd season: 9 goals
4th season: 17 goals
5th season: 31 goals
6th season: 18 goals
Thierry Henry has 5 20+ goal scoring seasons. Ronaldo has one 20+ goal scoring season but Man United fans will tell you how he's the greatest player to ever grace the EPL. That argument is understandable to La Liga and what he did at Real Madrid. Salah does not the same number of trophies that CR7 has won in the EPL but his individual performance has been superior.
Ronaldo stayed in the prem when he was young. Salah got booted out of Chelsea crying because he wasn’t even good enough for the bench at that time. If he had stayed at Chelsea like Ronaldo did at Man U his numbers would would be worse than that of Ronaldo’s first few seasons. Critical thinking please.

As a Chelsea fan, I'd say that's his biggest flaw. His playing style hasn't changed since his early days, compared to the way Salah or Sterling developed, especially in a tactical sense. He could become so much more direct

Put Allan Saint Maximin (with some end product) in a top team and he will replicate Hazard. Salah has dribbling stats that are actually in the same ballpark as Hazard. Hazard was better to watch but ultimately when it comes down to how good they are as Dribblers, Hazard got dispossessed FAR more than Salah.
