    Hi Vegan Ostomy... I bought this shower guard and it has been great. I did not like the feel of a wet bag against my skin that is why I invested in one. I would also like to say thank you for ALL your video's. This month will be my 4 year stomaversary and you have helped me all the way. Thank you!! Keep up the good work and I look forward to more video's.

    I have tried two different models of shower guards, and although they keep the bag dry, I still find that the tape holding the wafer to my body gets wet and takes 15 or 20 minutes to dry on a low setting of a hairdryer which is a real hassle. I still have not found a shower guard that will keep the entire thing dry.

    • @VeganOstomy

      Is the tape getting wet from the top, or is it just the general humidity in the shower causing it to get wet? If it's from the top, you might be able to use medical tape to seal the top of the shower guard so that no water can get between the guard and your skin.
      But if it's from general humidity, you'd need to completely seal the appliance, which could be more of a hassle than drying 😮‍💨

    I have tried various things and found the best thing is a cheapo covid face visor. Pull off the foam that goes against the forehead, step into it then pull it up. Just be careful passing "delicate areas and appendages" with it (male here) as it's quite stiff plastic. I did replace the elastic on it and it works perfectly, hangs like an awning over the bag (which I also tape up to half its length). Still allows the shower spray on the equipment just below to wash properly. I use Hollister, as you know they are a pain to get dry if wet.

    My friend uses disposable overshoes over her bag when showering. They're those plastic covers that health workers or carpet fitters wear over their shoes. You can also wear in the bath if you don't have the water too high, and they can be used over and over.

    It's not the pouch getting wet that is the trouble for me, that is already waterproof (poo, lol), but it is that the wafer gets wet and then loose from my skin. But I like the idea of this item.

      No matter the reason, these products may still be helpful. Alternatively, if the edges of your wafer begin to peel after showers, you may want to look at wafer extenders: th-cam.com/video/ShDg-wvZD1M/w-d-xo.html

    So, I LOVE the fact that I don't have to TAPE this "shower guard" to my body! Of course, that taping thing hasn't worked for me yet so that's another reason I'm thankful to see this! Thanks for reviewing Eric! I may just have to get one of these!

    In case anyone is interested I've had great success with tegaderm [or an off brand equivalent]. I got lucky and my insurance is covering it!! Though it's fairly easy to find and not that expensive if yours doesn't. I also tried something called aquaguard...waste of money in my opinion, but everyone's body is different.

      Vegan Ostomy thanks I'll have to look into that. I'm using the 8x12, which is a little big for me but does the job. I figure a little too big is better than too small in this case! Thanks again for the suggestion.
      Also, if it helps as far as sizing goes, I use the moldable Convatec esteem synergy bags (1 or 2 piece depending on my mood). 1-3/16" -- 1-9/16" size.

    • @VeganOstomy

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Because these tend to be "universal fit", they will have more space to allow for a multitude of bag sizes or even double bags. But a custom fit would be awesome!

    Hi Eric. I shower when I change the wafer and bag in the morning when I have little if any out put the stoma has no covering.;. I have used my shower apron and it works well when it is not time to change my wafer. I do put some tape on the top to really seal it. My question is , can it take a tub bath when my stoma has no covering like when I shower? Thank you

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A tub bath shouldn't be harmful to the stoma, but the risk of contaminating the bath water is quite high without an appliance on. I would personally wear my appliance if I'm in a bathtub or jacuzzi.

      You can safely shower with your appliance on, but if you wear a 2pc, look into getting a stoma cap that you wear in place of your larger bag.

      After a shower, or from sweat? If from after a shower, use a hair dryer at a low heat setting. If from sweat, try some baby powder and/or scent free antiperspirant on your abdomen 👍

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrislegner4816 I completely agree. I wear a clear Hollister 1pc, but the back is fabric and always traps moisture between the fabric and plastic of the bag. With a hair dryer, you should be able to blow air between that gap and dry it pretty effectively.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't used the dry pro, but it does look like a compelling system. Personally, I prefer simplicity and the Dry Pro seems more complicated to use for a shower. But it does look better for extend use, like swimming. If you do end up getting it, let me know how it goes.

    Is it okay for the wafer to get wet? Will water cause it to peel?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This can depend on the wafer. The ones that use a tape border are usually fine, but the wafers that use thicker hydrocoloid adhesives tend to peel easily.

    Many thanks for your video. Does one need to purchase the shower belt as well please?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very few items in the ostomy world are "needs" outside of a bag and wafer. The shower belt is nice to have, but not necessary for most people. If drying the bag after a shower is a nuisance then it will help.
