- The New Jersey Devils went "big-game hunting" on the first day of free agency. They improved their blue line by signing Brett Pesce and Brenden Dillon. Not only that, but they reunited with Stefan Noesen. Tom Fitzgerald wasted no time once free agency began and the roster has now improved in many ways. Physicality seemed to be the point of emphasis for New Jersey this offseason

Adding 3 Sasquatches on defense, and 2 at forward.
It is more of a want than a need to go after a top 6 winger. Gritsyuk is likely coming to NJ after this season and Mercer needs to step up and be the Right Winger we know he's capable of being. This team is now stacked and primed to make the playoffs barring injury (fingers crossed).
Honestly think this is the most complete team we've had in quite a while. Even without an extra top 6 forward, they'll have more room and opportunities just from upgraded size and defense. Bottom 6 now is capable of grinding and getting those dirty goals to support top 6
Glad we picked up Colton White, big Canadian boy, stay at home defence man I was so angry when the devils let him go originally we developed him and he is a defence first type of guy for the future

Hello Trey,
From the bench to the net, I agree, all upgrades.
With the defensive improvements, nothing against Markstrom, but I the GM would have stayed the course with Daws.
We still need a top six winger. Our depth at the top 6 is scary. A couple of injuries and were cooked.
I agree to some extent, we could use one more guy. At the same time ... I feel like we're fine.
Jack Hughes, Bratt, Meier, and Hischier is a GREAT group of forwards.
I kept hearing that Edmonton's depth was a problem and it turned out they had a great bottom six. I think they're a good template for us.
It's possible we'll get someone at the trade deadline. Maybe Fitz isn't done.
And I still think this team goes as Jack Hughes goes, kind of like Edmonton with McJeezus. That's the injury I worry about.

I think we should trade Bastain and Siegs, Siegs after the concussion doesn’t look good at all
I'd hesitate to get rid of Siegs. He had a solid 22-23 season. Everyone was bad last year. I'd like to see how he gels with the new D-core before moving on from him

I still like Bastian. Would like to see him come back strong from the Rempe disaster.
Siegs was really hard to watch last year even before the concussion. Rooting for him too but if we traded him I wouldn't be unhappy.

Fitz did more like Quail hunting.........Barry Trots did big game hunting. But we filled our needs, "somewhat".
Well, if your standard is limited to nothing but hall of famers and Conn Smythe winners, then yeah he came up short.
If you measure by this past season he shored up the team's weaknesses in a big way. Scoring was not the problem.
Overpaying for ageing stars is not what the devils need. This team is still waiting for important pieces to continue to develop and for some to move over here. They aren't one or two pieces away that would warrant Stamkos or Marchessault money and term.
When he said "big game hunting", he meant a goalie. And, he accomplished that by getting Markstrom.
