  • Te Hui Ahurei a Tūhoe is the longest running iwi festival in Aotearoa. Subscribe to Re: bit.ly/subscrib...
It was established 50 years ago to restore rangatahi connection to Tūhoe, their land, culture and people but this year’s Ahurei - as it’s known - is particularly special.
It brought together many Tūhoe who had been living in areas affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and some attendees described it as having a “healing” effect.
For others, like Sevens Olympic rugby champ Stacey Fluhler, it’s been a beautiful chance to perform, reunite with whānau and embrace Māori identity.
This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created by Mahi Tahi Media, with funding from Te Māngai Pāho. Stay tuned for a new episode every week.
