    Thank you so much! All we ever see are people cutting straight hair or making the hair look straight. Now unless you really have straight hair maintaining that is labor intensive unless you are good with hair (I'm certainly not). More TH-cam videos with curly or wavy hair would be appreciated. It's a sad thing when only one type of girl from a very specific set of ancestries gets to be pretty or feel confident getting her hair cut since she is the only type anyone learns to work on and the only one we see in videos.

      Wonderful, yes I totally plan to do a load of curly hair videos in fact I wanted to do them this year but due to social distancing et cetera et cetera and lockdowns it has been extremely difficult to do everything I wanted to do this year but I totally agree with you why should every Hair Model have the same hair

    Very clear instructions, thanks so much! I just cut my own hair at home using your technique and I LOVE IT! I have tighter thicker curls than the model but the method still worked a treat. It's a universally flattering cut from wavy to curly heads, and not that complicated once you grasp what's being done. Thanks for making it easy and fun! :)

    I just got this haircut today with a red brown base and fiery copper highlights. I have a round face and I didn't think it would look good but my hairdresser talked me into it. What the hell. It's just hair! I love it!!!! It's low maintenance, cute, edgy, and perfectly unfussy. This cut fits all face shapes.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you Sura for your question the long graduation will take more hair from the corner at the front and make it seem longer in the back. were as the curl shag video that technique will keep more weight and length in the front so it is very much client dependant as to the look you are going for i hope that helps if not let me know 😀

      Fantastic glad you really liked it how hard or easy it would be to follow well that is very difficult for me to say what I will say is there any comments of this video several people has mentioned that they have done this to themselves it’s a fairly simple technique in the sense that it just repeats itself over and over again and there isn’t that many sections to Comb up and cut so it depends how proficient you are At following instructions take your time I’m sure you’ll be fine everything is just directed into the very centre of your forehead apart from that there’s nothing more to it really

    Love it! I had this hairstyle in the early 80s! I have naturally curly hair but have been straightening it and I'd love to go back to this easy care style and embrace my curls again. Problem is I can't find anyone locally who will do this. They all want to add a lot of texturizing which doesn't work well for my hair. Would it be rude to show this video to a hair designer?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes this is a cracking haircut for curly hair why not show it to them if they aren’t doing what you want then there’s no harm and to be honest if somebody is offended by you trying to convey what you want exactly they probably not the right stylist anyway if someone came to me with a video or a series of pictures I would just be pleased that I could get a good understanding of what they wanted. 😁👍🏻

      @@alysiaburns5094 Yeah . You can text them ahead of time and say something like..."It took me a while, but I found this guy on TH-cam who cuts and teaches cutting hair in the exact shape I want. You may have your own approach, but just for reference, here's the video." And then send the link. I would love that. I think I may have lost clients not understanding the shape they were after. If a stylist gets upset over it, don't go to them. Honestly, WE REALLY want to make out clients happy. YOU are living advertisements of our work.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wonderful cousin George video it doesn’t really matter for the current before or after because the length of the layers are determined by the fringe so the perimeter of the haircut can be adjusted before or after you finish cutting the layers

    @imajenn3006 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Georgeous. I have to DIY due to covid + immune deficiency. I plan to see a stylist at some point for a Pro Job. I mostly have done this but my length is jaw length, so it doesn't reach top for over direction. How do I get the layers right for sides? I think I need a second guide point?
    Being short the back is tough. I have a bit of a weight bump @ the ends. Suggestions?
    I have most of the shape but need to refresh/fix scragglers.

      Thanks for replying! I'm sure you are busy! I'm trying for the same cut only not shoulder length. You over direct all sections to the center top guide you create. As my hair is chin length not all of the sections are long enough to reach that center guide.
      Do I use say a 1 or 2 o'clock section as a new guide to overdirrect the hair to to keep it at jaw length (actually I want it to grow so the bottom hits mid neck.)
      If you can't answer that is OK. I understand the difficulty.
      Not many people are showing cuts for shorter shags. (I think I've watched every TH-cam)

    OK I have a question . My teacher is telling me not to hold my fingers like I do when cutting. The only reason I’m bringing this up to you is because I noticed you hold your finger the exact same way I do. With one slightly tucked under the other I guess not exactly even is what she could call it. So I’m just curious is that wrong to do or not?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julie thank you for your question to be honest providing that you are aware of your natural characteristics let’s say crossing our fingers slightly and you do not allow them to affect the end result and there is absolutely nothing wrong with any mechanical technique it is just about personal confirmation to ensure that you do not allow these particular features of your natural style to impinge on the end result hope that makes sense and the best times

    Hi James, is this a 75 degree haircut technique, inverted layers I think? Thanks, lovely cut.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can cut it at any angle to be honest the steeper the angle so the closer to 90° vertical will give you less layers, and the flatter you cut the layers e.g. the closer to 90° horizontal relative to the floor the more you layer it so it’s about determining what do you want to get from the shape dose that make sense? Does this change at all/much with a side part? I imagine for the front you would overdirect to the part, maybe? But I'm not sure how to continue that into the back...

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes exactly that if you’re going to do this with a side parting you simply over direct to the part if you want to connect the back in in a similar fashion to the way that you cut the front and you would just over direct it to the centre and have a slight disconnection on the heavier side the alternative is to cut the back square with no over direction and all will be well

    Hello. How is a shag different from a basic layered cut be it medium short or long?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question thank you, it depends how you define a basic layer, I would say a basic layer is cut more square 90° where is this is a 45° angle short to long Shorts around the face getting longer towards the crown. in a technical sense this is actually a long graduation or a forward graduation depending on your standpoint yes you are elevating the hair yes you are effectively creating layers but whenever we are using a technique that is travelling from shot to long, whether it be from the nape to the crown ( grad Bob) or from the front hairline to the crown we are creating graduation. I hope that answers your question 👍🏻

    • @kconrad5893
      @kconrad5893 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is not a shag haircut. That’s why you’re asking that question. The hairdresser must not know what a real shag is. A real shag has very short layers at the top that gradually get longer. Think Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch. Or David Cassidy. It’s like a lady mullet.

    • @rain3743
      @rain3743 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kconrad5893 He cut short to long in, literally, every section. This is a connected shag. A stylist can vary the elevation in the fringe and even disconnect the top layers from the bottom and "visually blend it" and it also would be as shag. On wavy hair, you'd see the shape more defined. A Mullet has the front disconnected from the back, completely and there's no "slight corner removed or angle flowing into to longer lengths." It's an extreme of short in front. Long in back. You really are not correct saying this isn't a shag. This is the Vidal Sassoon version and he invented it. That's where the rubber meets the road.

      @@rain3743 My first reply to you was deleted but I’m writing again to say that this is not a 70s shag haircut and Vidal Sassoon did not invent the shag and was never known for the shag. Look it up honey. It was actually invented by a BARBER named Paul McGregor.

    Το me a shag is ideal for curly hair. I want this haircut for myself but I have really straight hair. Is it going to work?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is an ideal haircut for curly hair, but I also think it works nicely and straight hair texture its offering a lot of texture and movement especially if you cut the 45% you elevate the hair square from the head shape you get a lot more moving out of it 👍🏻 hope that helps 👍🏻
