    As a diehard Lakers fan, I remember clearly how Barea killed us in that series. He looked like an all-star PG at times. He had a great playoff run, even in the finals vs the Heat. He was an important key in that championship. The little giant.

    • @omnivorous65
      @omnivorous65 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      It is probably one of the most underrated performances ever. As good as Nowitzki was, no way that Dallas would have won a title without Barea. Whenever Dallas could not get anything going offensively they basically gave Barea the ball and he went to work. It was as if he had some sort of cheat code. The frustration he caused was immense. You had a well-tuned defense really jamming the opponents offence, you bring him in and in no time everyone is scrambling and chasing him like headless chickens.
      He is undoubtedly one of the craftiest player ever and when he still had that waterbug speed he was a nightmare to cover.

      @@omnivorous65 Bynum had to try to injure him, that's how frustrated the Lakers were.
      Barea looked almost as how he looks when he plays for team Puerto Rico lol In team PR he's a superstar, the captain.

    This video is incredible. It shows how he absolutely dismantled them and how Carlisle threw the ball in his hands even with J.Kidd on the court. His passes were created the next pass for the shot and his dribble pen was so great...he's even better at dribble pen these days and he's still very quick but WOW i forgot he was this fast at one point. So much respect for Barea because of how hard he works for what he's accomplished.

    barea looked like the second coming of AI in that series lol

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      AI?? Hell no! Iverson's an inefficient ball hog. Great individual talent, but none of AIs teams had any legitimate shot of winning a championship (including the one that went to the Finals in the weakest conference ever-01' East), cause AI has to be surrounded w/ bad players for him to be effective. Think about what you're saying for a second. Barea was not a volume shooter in this series or at any other stretch of his career. He's not explosive either. Also, AI was mostly iso from the wing as an undersized scoring guard, whereas Barea's a pick-&-role fool who plays the classical style of diminutive point guard, like #12 who used to play for the team in the Great Salt Lake. He's an un-athletic white guy like #12 Sally Fields for the Utah Jazz (the all-time assists queen). He's like the wholesome suburban brunette who makes everybody around him better (like Sally Fields did for the Jazz-except not nearly as good, but similar idea), and then takes all high %age shots when no one's open. He's the bench version of Sally Fields (especially throughout the 11' title run). He's got none of AIs street crud, can't carry a team at all (which AI can), but can help a good team be better more than AI could help a good team be better.

His agent "streched" him up to 6' on paper to give him a better chance. He lost crucial time in those days (in the NBA) By not getting drafted when he was an assasin on the court..(he still was afterward) but nevertheless...he is our little giant even from when he was 5 yrs. old! JJ was never taller than 5'9". He played with his heart though....his heart is 10' tall.

    The speed, the change of direction, the agility, the in&out crossover which allow him to penetrate and the recognition and passing ability which allow him to create... he's got it all. If only his shot (which is imperfect now and allows defenders to go under screens) and his defense (which he lacks because of the lack of size, though somewhat compensates with the heart he plays with) were better, he'd be a top 3 PG in the league...

    I have said before Odom, Gasol, and Bynum had no chance against Barea. Despite their length, they were too slow. Every screen got JJ driving downhill deep into the paint. Each time he kicked out those shooters i.e. Dirk, Jet, Peja, a serviceable Stevenson, even Jason Kidd hitting shots; the matchups were not in LA's favor. In particular, I remember Kidd holding Kobe some. Dallas was better. Also, remember that even JT got credit later in the run for holding his own against LeBron in the Finals. This was a balanced team with efficient scoring and good defense. Too damn bad Cuban swung for the fences and didn't run the team back. One more run would have been worth it. They had chemistry. Miami got better with Battier, but I would have said if they both returned I'd give Dallas a 41% chance against the 2nd year heat super team.

    @BcroG11 im a die hard mavs fan, and barea is sick ass hell, but its the system he plays which helps him and the mavs. the mavs surround him with great shooters like terry, dirk, kidd which helps keep the floor spread. floor that spread, jj can easily do what he wants wit the ball like get in the lane. basically if he drives and no one helps he ll hit the lay up, if they do help, he can easily dish it to open shooters. its the system hes in, if he was in a different system it wouldnt work.

    @itsyaboy41 Agreed, but no PG would be a good one without good teammates. A PG's main responsibility is to create, to make plays, to assist his teammates. Without good shooters you can neither fill your stats with assists nor can you penetrate and score. Without good teammates you'd actually be playing 1 vs 5. Would Nash be as good if he didn't have someone to play pick&roll with (Stoudemire, Gortat) or great three point shooters who spread the floor (Frye, Dudley)?
