    For more flex/suspension travel in the WL, the suspension has to be in the second to highest setting. More travel means more traction. This also will help make use of the disconnectable sway bar. The highest setting is meant for clearing an obstacle a tall obstacle then going back down to the second highest level. Also if he was in 4 Low, the transmission starts out in 2nd gear so the driver will have to manually shift in to 1st if they want lower gearing in 4 Low.
    Glad to see a new WL out having fun.

    The WL did good! It took some technical lines and made it through. Tire size and it’s weight are definitely a limitation, but for 99% of the stuff out there the Trailhawk can do just fine and still be a civil drive on the road as a daily driver. I hope that guy enjoys wheeling it!

      I like these videos you guys make and thank you for showing the GCTrailhawk (I have the 2013) ..but who ever put a cable hook New Grand Trailhawk tow hooks is not the best idea. Rope hooked to cable OK. If you can avoid ....I bet his rubber protection on the new RED tow hook on the Drivers side may be scratched? I say this since it happened to me. Rope when necessary cable when Mandatory (my rule 1 in towing)

    one thing i have learned on trails is momentum is your friend i believe that's why the GC was having such issues. I know he was making sure he had clearance but alot of the struggle was stopping on the hills with mud which makes things alot more tricky. I just traded in my Gladiator for a new grand cherokee myself and im enjoying it so much have been on a few trails with her and im impressed. I do have the Rocky Road lift on mine and 34's it has amazing clearance and so much fun on the trails.

    Other than towing and breakover was there anything that your Grand Cherokee Trailhawk did better than the gladiator off-road? I'm just wondering if there were any anomalies. I'm also curious about the new one.
    It's surprising how much understeer that red 4runner had on that obstacle. You could reduce the understeer by putting it in two-wheel drive that would definitely induce oversteer. I don't know if he would have moved forward but something to try if you can't steer the vehicle actually take it out of four-wheel drive and the rear wheel drive will help the back end come around.
    It's a suspension balance issue. Tinker's adventure talks about it with the FJ. You need either independent suspension all the way around or solid axles all the way around for balanced suspension based on what I've seen.
    As for disconnecting the front sway bar, people have to remember that that actually reduces functional ground clearance so if you don't really need the flex and you would rather have the clearance I would leave it connected.

      @alex-ng1ij ปีที่แล้ว +5

      WL Driver here. I felt for the most part I could follow the rest of the group everywhere. I havent driven it off road much, so I think some of the issues seen may also be inexperience and some caution on my part. Mud was my kryptonite lol. Bigger tires or a small lift, and additional underbody protection would have made it easier I think. Those are issues for the WL since there is a lack of aftermarket support for it right now and some technical issues caused by Jeeps design.

    • @off-roadingexplained8417
      @off-roadingexplained8417 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alex-ng1ij yeah. I have a video or two where when I have a wheel chock on two tires and I'm in the mud it has problems. I actually found that 26 PSI is pretty good for the regular Cherokee Trailhawk. When went to 22 , I lost some side to side control. Granted , my tires are mild all tetrians so I need the bite.
      My next tires might be the venom power terra hunter. These are some of the most aggressive tires available for my vehicle if you don't go with a 32. I don't know what's available for yours but that's a pretty aggressive tire. My friend has those on his Tundra and they have amazing grip. I would say they grip probably better than my Cooper AT3 4S tires on gravel and mud.
      I don't remember if the new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk has crawl control "selec speed" But one thing I thought of doing and I'll probably make a video about it is to find a hill where I barely have traction and put it in crawl control at the lowest speed and then test all the different tire pressures that I want to test and just see which one works best and that should give me my answer because the crawl control creates a really scientific way of doing it because there's so much speed control and it's a computerized test basically. I haven't seen a video of anyone doing that so I'll have to do that . Feel free to steal my idea lol.

      @off-roadingexplained8417 What is your tire size? Thanks.

    • @off-roadingexplained8417
      @off-roadingexplained8417 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Andremx12 I'm running 265 65 17. (30.6 inches) with a 2 inch teraflex lift . 0.75 inch wheel spacers . This is a regular 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk not a grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Very minimal fender liner rub , no suspension arm rub (because the wheel spacers fixed that completely) no pinch weld mod or trimming. Breakover angle after lift and tires is 28°. Approach and departure are both over 35° or higher. I also added 1.25 inch spring rubbers in the front and 1 inch spring rubbers in the rear. This causes NO change to ride height but does improve functional (while moving) ground clearance due to the fact that it basically converts the suspension to progressive rate. Handling is also DRAMATICALLY improved. I also use a front strut tower brace as the one for the dodge dart I'd an identical match.
      Off road tire pressure is 26 PSI , on road is 29 PSI (this is the correct street pressure with the larger tires according to load inflation tables. This holds the same load or more as the stock tires did at 36 psi).
      Interestingly, I had no loss in corner travel index at 22 psi even though the springs are stiffer with the rubbers. I can't explain it but that was the result.
