I was fortunate enough to see the whole “Immediate Family” film in NYC and a live, in person interview with all of them afterwards. If you love music documentaries, this is a must see film!! Jackson Browne is only 1 of the many, many well known artists that these guys have recorded and toured with.

I remember hearing that song as it was being written in a small apartment in Silverlake. What a relief it was to hear GREAT songwriting and I told him so. Was it really 1972 when it was written? The years have compressed so as I can't remember if this happened before JCMDE or after but it had to be after. Perhaps it was written before 1970 but never recorded until '72. Still, songs like this were what saved me as a teen girl.

What a lovely classic, forever song, and we see the Beatles influence again. It nice to see/hear, every of the musicians contributed to the song and not their ego- love it and thanks for sharing !!

I'll never forget being at Angel Stadium for an all-day concert back in the day, and watching the entire infield begin to bounce up and down when that song started...amazing!!!♥

Leland Sklar has a TH-cam channel in which he talks about recording sessions & various tours. In one of them, & I wish I could remember which one, he talks about Jesse. And how seemingly effortlessly he laid down that guitar solo for Doctor My Eyes. An unsung giant for sure.

My buddy Mike & I saw The Immediate Family film at an IMax here in Indy. We grew up on that music. It was like visiting with old friends. And who in this world that loves music doesn't also love Leland Skar? Such an absolute musical giant & incredibly sweet person. And while I'm at it, as an adjunct, David Lindley as well. Not a full time member of The Immediate Family but when he was involved they were better for it. I was lucky enough to have seen David many times with Jackson & several times on his own. Got to chat with him after a couple shows. Such a sweet dude. And a wonderfully unique artist. I imagine Jackson is very aware of how lucky he was to have these guys playing along side him. And Rosemary Butler. Not a member of The Immediate Family. But holy moly she was good. Very lucky to have had this music as part of my life.

@johnstinchcomb8156 you're a lucky man. You witnessed lightning in a bottle. I didn't know the JED played live with JB. Hopefully, there's a video history.

@@francoisbouvier7861 I would have loved to have seen Jesse play live. Terry Kath is another guitarist that I love that I never got to see play live. I've been lucky enough, tho, to to have seen a lot of other greats. Even met a few.

@johnstinchcomb8156 The guy on my radar at the moment is Jack Pearson. Stumbled across him through all my Allman Brothers viewing. He's understated and smooth as silk. One day, hopefully

I have no idea if it is true, but I have heard he was 16 when he wrote this. If he did, that is astounding. Since he was born around '48, that would mean it was written some time around '64 (as opposed to its '72 release date). That makes me wonder if his "inspiration" was the assassination of JFK the year before. It's definitely a dark song for a 16-year-old to have written unless it was inspired by a deeply, deeply dark event. If anyone knows a different origin story, please enlighten me.
