    Absolutely incredible work! A truly unique and beautiful piece of art. Thanks for making this great documentary of the process. And thanks for mentioning me as well -- I agree: the comments section on TH-cam can help in so many ways.

    I went to see this work.
    It goes without saying these H-Tubes are beautiful.
    The best part was that the curator told me it was okay to take a closer look.
    I was able to stare at these wonderful Nixie tubes from a very close distance for over ten minutes.
    I'm sure they thought I was a strange guy XD

    Hello Dalibor - congratulation to your succesfull design, development and manufacturing of the artwork (nixie tube system)! The documentary itself is a great piece of work and could be used in engineering classes ... it shows how difficult a development path can be, but also how to overcome obstacles i.e., by identifying what the true problem is and finding appropriate solutions. Great stuff. You can be proud of yourself and the team. Greetings from Germany, Stefan.

    What an incredible undertaking and incredible journey to get to the final result! The combination of deep engineering development and artistic beauty, all in service of such a unique and powerful message really touched me somehow.
    Watching each step of the process, I was amazed all over again by how much development has gone into your work in general. Watching the video, I could imagine the painstaking experiment and iteration required for every tiny step of the process. Materials choices, the metal forming, the specific dimensions of all the ceramic parts, the ceramic adhesive you used, all the jigs and production aids, even down to the specially shaped electrodes on the spot welders, so you could get through the forest of wires and supports to make the connections needed.
    As an engineer myself, it gives me a great deal of pleasure just to see your facilities and production process and appreciate all the work that went into getting to where you are today. Very heartfelt congratulations! I hope one day to be able to afford a clock made with your tubes, they’re such works of art in and of themselves.
    I’m curious: Now that you’ve developed them, do you see yourself selling H tubes as a product? I imagine they would be very expensive to make, as they’d be outside your normal production, but I’m sure there are special-case customers for them out there in the world, and it would be nice to see some additional return from the huge engineering investment.
    Congratulations again on all you’ve accomplished!

    • @daliborfarny
      @daliborfarny  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi, thank you for a detailed comment, it goes very deep! I wish I could share more details from the experimentation - there is a lot of work behind each of the procedures. Exactly as you pointed out. I would like to make the H tubes regularly, at the moment we are around 700 EUR per tube (thats cost of production including amortization of the development). We have customers asking for these, so it is on us to make it happen. still some little details need to be solved.

    • @KallePihlajasaari
      @KallePihlajasaari 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@daliborfarny I think if you were able to make them with 10 or 11 custom electrodes that could spell out a couple of words (or a sentence in eastern idiographs) could find a market in corporate foyers and upscale club decor.
      Simply using them for clocks would be mind blowingly extravagant but oh so sophisticated.

    Today, I took the Shinkansen to Hiroshima and saw Alfredo Jear and Dalibor's work ``生ましめんかな''.
    When I saw this work, I was reminded once again of the victims of war and the will to continue life even in such an environment.
    On the other hand, I was also very impressed with the technical aspects of the Nixie tube. We developed the manufacturing and control technology for Nixie tubes that can display fonts as large as a hand but with delicate fonts, and we realized that it took a lot of effort and time to install them in museums in Japan. All tubes light up and are highly reliable.
    I was really lucky to be able to see the fruits of your labor.
    However, it's a shame that we can only see it until October 15th.
    I would be happy if people all over the world could see this work.

    this is beautiful! I love the aesthetic, the message and I think the nixie tubes really help show the historical timeframe. also the 0's falling down like bombs with that warm glow on them like the color of the sun reminds me a lot of nuclear detonations in a way that is more subtle and relaxing. The sheer amount of engineering and work is nuts! 121 functioning custom tubes that had to be carefully hand assembled... Imagine all the stamping, laser cutting, welding etcetera that had to take place before carefully sealing the glass and pulling vacuum. And you don't even know if it's done then cause as he mentioned, there's still the burn in which they have to survive. Then hoping it survives shipping is nerve wrecking and having to guess which once might be broken and having no idea how many could be dead.... not to mention all the prototyping and deadlines! This is truly outstanding work, I think this video is almost a piece of art of its own. I think I would think the artwork would be cool if I saw it but seeing the work that went into this.... Insane!

    first: amazing work. i really love the look of that installation. Never would have guessed, that this was so many years of work and dedication. After seeing your workshop and lab, i would have guessed a total cost arround of 8K to 10K$ per nixie tube including the developement. Can you estimate what your cost per tube (in the installation) was ? or is that confidential?
    second: can anybody tell me what song that is on this timestamp? th-cam.com/video/8ElxcRCt0mQ/w-d-xo.html it just fits perfect to the charme of the kanji glowing and i wanna go down that rabbithole of this kind of japanese music ( if it is even japanese ?! )

      Thank you! The costs are confidental, I still also need to do a post calculation to know the real numbers, but it was less than your estimation. The music is twilight of Kyoto by Pecan Pie (uppbeat.io). Cheers!

    For the longest time this project was in the background and felt like it would be always there, seeing it completed got me tearing up a bit. I wish I could go in person to see it! I'll be keep an eye out for the next project, I'm confident that with the expertise and the capability built during the developing H-Tube, some amazing thing will come!

    Incredible. From the final result alone, it's difficult to realize how much work went into the project and how many challenges had to be overcome. I'm grateful that you took us on the journey with you, gives us a whole new perspective and a deeper way of appreciating the final result. Very well done!

    I remember Dalibor from the very start of his nixie tube journey. I remember seeing his first tube. It was a test tube with 2 digits in it, made in his kitchen. That was over 20 years ago.

    I'm so glad you finally made it! The next question, despite the warning on your website, is : when will you have a clock with the H tubes? With all my admiration. Christophe

    It was a journey of discovery, setbacks, and accomplishments for which you and your team can be proud. Hopefully, you will be able to capitalize on the fact that you now have something to offer the world that is a capability unique to you and yours. Congratulations again and thank you for sharing this wonderful summary of your journey (even though I've been following along over the years).

    I love the look of Nixie tubes, yet i've never used one in any of my projects, because i thought they were a lost piece of technology and are becoming more expensive because of this.
    It's very exciting to see that somebody took on the task to bring this art back to life - thank you for doing what you do, and also showing how complex and difficult it is to built them!
    Oh, and beautiful work on this artwork, it's chilling to see it run through its cycle to run for the first time.
