He’s become something of a cult figure after all of this. Nobody knew who this was prior to the escape. It’s a fascinating phenomenon when some people can almost in a way separate his original crimes from the almost comical parody like manhunt that ensued.
During these two weeks he essentially represented a sort of allegorical outcast in a literal sense. Yes his crimes were horrific and he needs to be held accountable for them, but I think that as a collective mob, there is a small subconscious percentage of us that was actually rooting for him to get away.
