What Happened to Minecraft on Console?

- This isn’t one of those “Old Minecraft was Better” videos, those are boring, what is a lot more interesting is breaking down what made the console edition of Minecraft so different and unique and getting replaced by Microsoft.
Yeah, bedrock replaced the console edition, that is to an extent a contributing factor to why people remember Minecraft being different, and in a lot of players’ opinions better. But Mojang didn’t even make the Minecraft console edition. 4J Studios ported Minecraft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and 4 and there were some differences.
Also, I briefly mentioned in the video that mini-games and other services are still continued, it’s only that they don’t get updated. Console edition Minecraft is still very much a playable version for people who want to experience it.

The legacy edition on the PS4 was amazing, they changed it to bedrock and it was so bad it was buggy as crap too. Maybe it’s not so bad anymore

It’s not miserable, I can play with no bugs or issues until I add the “mod packs” I strait up stopped a world because a back pack bug wiped clean 3 hours of mining.

I hate hate HATE that Microsoft got greedy and decided to make another version of Minecraft that, in reality, is just to make more money. I LOVE the console version of minecraft and I loved exploring, not only the tutorial worlds, but also the extra worlds you get when you buy another texture pack. For Microsoft to just take all of that away just fills me with such anger. These worlds weren't just one-offs either, they genuinely had such expansive detail I would never be able to explore all of it in 10 lifetimes. I guess every story has to have a villain

Minecraft Console edition/ Legacy edition is the best version for the consoles. It's fun, no lag, fast, minigames, local and online multiplayer , tutorial worlds, and it's like Java version. Bedrock is "good" for crossplatform, and that's it.... Anyway, i like this video, you made a good job. :> Well done.

This is going to git gud bait, but I was playing Java back when PDP was going hard on this game, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. From farms, to buildings, to exploration - I really explored the world, and created enjoyable structures, with some noticeable resistance along the way...
But things have changed a bit. I came back to it (Bedrock) recently, and there are some things that weren't too welcoming for exploration. Before, we had a challenge for mobs, sure, but now you walk into a cave, and there's an endless onslaught of mobs from creepers from skeletons to zombies (I had a group of us returning to the game, and every other minute, someone was ended in a cave - the lead tried to switch to easy mode, but it made no noticeable difference). Try to clear it out? Right - that will last for all of a millisecond (if that). Also, is it just me, or is night and day half the time it was back in the day?
So, I started to progress on my own world, and played it safer in normal, and slowly but surely took on "safe caving," and built walls around my house, and lit up the surrounding areas like a Christmas tree and did some extremely cautious venturing - but then I got to the nether. I was digging endless tunnels, heard a ghast, and thought "I remember this" - so I went to have a look. In the old version, there was a ghast or two, and you'd take one out, and hope there wasn't another spawn in a few moments - sometimes it went well, sometimes it didn't. Not in this version - You battle one ghast? How about two? Survive that? How about two more and 30+ skeletons? Don't bother killing them, because within seconds, they'll be right back (most of the time, respawning as you kill them).
I get the idea, when you get to something like a fortress, or a spawner, but it seems like all exploration is a little discouraged these days. What's the point of spawners if that's just routine exploration now? Yeah, I know - farms.
And then people say that iron and diamond farming is easy. Well, kind of, but I don't remember the grind being quite like it is today. I'm finding rewards a lot less frequent. And it feels like they replaced that with farming villagers - and let's be honest, the best way to get a decent amount of iron in Bedrock, to farm anything fun, is to create an iron farm (which they try to discourage by making it really finnicky mechanics).
I guess all that's relatively OK, but this is MINE craft, right? I don't know - maybe I'm just the boomer talking about how things used to be, but I felt when it was a bit more rewarding than punishing, there was a certain charm to this game. Now it feels like the balance is off a little.
They kind of took the survival thing to mean we're suddenly playing Left for Dead from jump street. That's not exactly how I remember Minecraft.
And there's weird issues in the game - like things spawn through walls. Villager sleeps next to wall? You'll find him on the other side when you come back - Too many chickens in an enclosed area? Not so enclosed anymore. Machines break if you step a few feet away, or alt tab, and forget to turn them off.
Either way, I'm still dangerously addicted, but I'm constantly plagued by member berries for the way things used to be.
