    When creating warrior/ranger/paladin/rogue in BG1, it's actually ok to dump intelligence and wisdom to 3 points, and boost everything else to 18 (if we have enough points, it's good to put 9 into intelligence, to use protection scrolls). In contrast to Planescape Torment, in BG there is no penalty for being ridiculously dumb, and maxed charisma grants better rewards. For example, in Candlekeep you get a dagger +1 from Fuller and more gold from Hull, in Friendly Arms Inn you get 6x antidote from Landrin before quest, and more gold after finishing her quest. High charisma also means better store prices - 20 points gives maximum discount (-25%), no point having more charisma than that. If you start with 18, in Beregost you can steal Cloak of Algernon (+2 to charisma) in Feldepost Inn, to have 20 charisma. Then get reputation to 20 (-30%), and get whooping -55% discount in shops :D

      @@druidarreynolds4303 Hi. There are only a few mindflayers battles, and plenty of potions of genius - you can boost INT before battle to 25, and you are safe. It's better to put points into something else, if we are not playing as wizard or bard.

      @boski0klusek ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@christophertadeo6120 yes, but if you choose to remain pure fighter (my favourite class), you don't need more than 3, let's say 9, to use protection scrolls. And you can not dual ranger and paladin :)

    • @ethosterros9430
      @ethosterros9430 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@christophertadeo6120 actually int decides the highest spell level you can cast. 18 int means access to 9th level spells 17 8th and so on. It's not relevant until tob. Int to more spell slots is a mod function, think it was scales of balance.
      The more pressing issue is ranger is worse than fighter in every single way, and their spells come in too late to matter. His level 1 and 2 is slightly better because he gets 6 pips at level 1 so u can use 2 different weapons well but that's so whatever. Archer is the only good ranger since it gets something other classes dont.

  • @Iranex1
    @Iranex1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    If anyone wants to recreate this: if you do the quest for the guy in the Candlekeep barracks to get some bolts from the inn, the reward is a +1 dagger if you can get an 18 in charisma. Dont have to worry about it breaking AND get that nice +1 to hit and damage right in the tutorial! You can safely dump wis and int down to 9 to get to 18 CHA

      Low intelligence sucks. You will fight mind flayers in BG2 and there are good items in the game that don't have a class restriction but have INT restriction. Arcane casters should have INT 18 from start, everyone else INT 16.

    Dexterity only affects the chance to hit with ranged weapons in this edition of D&D. It's a character's strength stat that influences their thac0

    • @HenriFaust
      @HenriFaust ปีที่แล้ว

      IIRC, dexterity determines ranged attack/THAC0 in every edition of D&D, with the exception of some special abilities.

      @matthewlatimer7291 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@HenriFaust My comment was in reference to the part of the video that mentioned dexterity effecting thac0 for melee weapons which is completely wrong for this edition of D&D as it is only the strength stat that matters for melee thac0. Obviously in later editions of D&D there are weapon finesse feats for some classes that mean dex is used instead when calculating dice rolls for melee attacks which might be why the video uploader was confused and is giving out incorrect information.

    If you like Backstab you should have went for assassin, later on in second game you'll get assassinate ability where you can back stab non stop and having huge multiplier is better then having less. Also lay traps ability is the most OP and Exploitative thing thieves have. If you cant kill it with a back stab you will definitely kill it with a trap. Hell even Shadow Dancer is better then Stalker as you can just go invisible anytime even worse you can just don on a cloak of whispers and silence and even a boss wont find you.

    • @Bruced82
      @Bruced82 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kensai/thief (Kai backstabs+UAI+traps) dual or assassin/mage dual, are also incredible with black blade of disaster backstabs or golem shapeshange backstab (4d10 crush fists) or throw poisoned MMM/energy blades (10APR) at high levels.

    • @ethosterros9430
      @ethosterros9430 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shadowdancer is my jam. He wanted a fighter ethos pure class. But if hes really metagaming u want dual fighter into thief to get the best of both worlds, pure fighter proficiency with pure thief skills. Bounty hunter trap spam is really fun too.
      Rangers definitely one of the weaker classes except archer tbh.
      Assassin is too much of a one trick pony and you cant even dual it since its extra backstab comes in past level 15. Only 15 skills per level made it possibly the worst thief. Good for enemies since their job is to 1 shot one of your guys then die. But yea idk shadowdancer to mage seems more versatile by miles since u get 3 actions you can do with separate cds, attack, spell, hips. Swashbuckler to mage for a good spell archer. Bounty hunter 11 to mage even 6 traps pre fight then bow or backstab into spells.

    • @ethosterros9430
      @ethosterros9430 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bruced82the ee nerfed poisons to only proc once per round per target and if they save u cant try until it lands u dont get procs til next round. I found a mod that makes poison better without making it the monster it was before like 2 damage per second no save for 2 rounds stacking applications which was ridiculous for anything with apr.
      I guess the extra +1 is nice for melfs and energy blades but swash does it better and assassin skill points are mega cringe. Maybe you can do with just 100 points in traps and deal with locks with spells and stealth with spells. Idk shadowdancer just stands out too much since hips gets it's own action per round so u can backstab then cast a spell and then stealth again without needing a cast for it.

      @@DJdeliverance haha i'll excuse what you said since you said you're new :). In Baldur's Gate, non-humans can multiclass, but humans can't, they can only dual class. a half-orc is one of the races you can pick, and typically they're good for fighter-type classes, like berserkers, barbarians, etc. what's good (or maybe bad) about baldur's gate, is that it's actually not very balanced, in the sense that some class choices are very strong, others can be very weak. that part is a bit of a learning curve. but if you want a build that's really strong, go with a human berserker. then in baldur's gate 2, dual him to a mage at level 9 or 13 (generally it's 9). watch davaeorn's vids to learn more about baldur's gate spells, classes and weapons. there are a ton of things to learn about the game, and it has incredible replay value, i have played the games since they first came out, and i continue to learn new things.
