Nancy Drew: The Captive Curse (Part 1): Renate and a Fight with Ned

- Part of a video walkthrough for Nancy Drew: The Captive Curse. In this video, Nancy goes to Germany, where she is forced to solve a matching puzzle to gain entrance to the castle. She is killed by a falling gate, and then she explores the town for a bit. Everyone in town has locked their doors, so Nancy goes to the castle.
Nancy gets a phone call from her boyfriend Ned, and the two of them get in a fight. Nancy then meets Renate, the old woman who is a storyteller. Renate tries to scare Nancy with scary stories. Afterwards, Nancy getes a call from Frank Hardy, who says that Ned is very upset.

This has one of my favorite Nancy Drew game openings. You don't see Lucas or Karl at first so the voices seem to come from nowhere, leading to this (which always makes me laugh):
"...Now for part two of your test!"
"LUKAS!"

Why must Nancy be such a bad gf Ned should be in the game too.
The game designers figured making Nancy and Ned's relationship like the original book series would be impossible to relate to or some garbage. Hence in the games, Nancy forgets important events and fights with Ned since that's more relatable to real Modern couples and the books have Ned and the cousin's boyfriends travel with them several times, rarely if they ever fought, and worked together. But that's too idealistic to have in a game for young girls no the relationship has to have bumps. I doubt Nancy in real life would be this ditzy forgetting events left and right. According to the game's logic, this would be a phone conversation with Ned.Nancy: Hello?Ned: Hey Nancy, where are you?Nancy: The Amazon trying to catch a criminal, what's up?Ned: Are you serious?! Do you not hear the wedding bells? How the hell did you forget your own wedding day? I'm waiting for you to start it. Looks like we'll have to postpone again! This is fifth time!Nancy: Oh I'm sorry Ned I'll try again. I promise.Ned: No as soon as you get home I'm dragging you to the courts and we'll elope. We can't afford another ceremony. Way to go.Nancy:............................................................................Ops.

I am curious about Frank though. Are the higher-ups at Her Francy shippers? If so, there's a better way to ending a relationship between Nancy and Ned. I can think of several ways to do it, all ending with Nancy and Ned remaining good friends. Arguing like this isn't one of them.
Though, no relationship is without it's problems. Ned and Nancy are two different people and each have their needs and wants, and sometimes those clash.
I agree, in fact I think the moment Nancy said she was in a trap. Ned would be on the next flight to where she is. Monster or no.
I've got some German in me, and Nancy Drew The Captive Curse makes me even prouder of my heritage.

When Michael/Nancy pulled the lever and it fell on her and he said, "Why do they even have that lever?" I thought of Emperor's New Groove: "Kronk! Wrong lever!! Why do we even HAVE that lever?" haha :)
Why doesn't Ned work beside Nancy in one or two of the games like in the books? Ned doesn't just stay at home waiting for Nancy.
He helps her out, but also gets mad when she takes too many chances.
Haha I replayed that first bit with Lukas. First time in forever that a ND character has made me laugh out loud.
Does anyone else watch Michael's walkthroughs with popcorn and a soda like a movie? No? Okay just me then. :)
I just wanted to say thank you for playing all these through. Honestly, some of the mysteries are a bit scary for me to play alone, so I love watching these so I can be warned when I need to shut my eyes, but yet be able to follow along with the game.
If the video is so buffering, I had this scroll down thing. Since I'm using iPad, i'll click the "more from" tab and madly scrolling down. And I realize arglefumph has made many videos already. I was really surprised. BUT I TOTALLY LOVE WALKTHROUGHS, ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!!!

Okay, I forced myself to only watch up until right after Nancy and Ned's argument; I just wanted to see the layout of the area. But it looks amazing!!! I won't get mine till Friday, and even then, not till I come back from vacation. ;_;

Great game :-) Totally love it. The Germans are too funny, I was laughing my head off when Nancy first encountered the Buergermeister lol. They are actually all 'Ubergerman' lol. Only got the game today and been playing it for a few hours and now I'm totally stuck inside Renate's bag, but thanks to arglefumph and his totally great walkthroughs I will crack this one lol :-). On this note: Thank you so much arglefumph for all the effort in making the walkthroughs.

hopefully the ending is different other than the usual, "Nancy gets in alot of trouble in some death trap (or confronted with the enemy, and if so the enemy leaves nancy for dead) then solves some interesting puzzle and catch the enemy at the last minute, or trap them." then wraps it all up with a letter to her dad or Ned.
finally, after a good 10 years and ned and nancy finally have drama :D

This is my favorite Nancy Drew Game. I thought it was the only game that had a deeper meaning. It was interesting how it made you think. All the deep talks about Scrapegoats and Legends. I also liked how it focused on "Old. vs. New", with Renate and with the fates of the girls and Nancy's fate. If you think about it, it explains what happened to them.
I'm curious, if your boyfriend was waiting for you in a small town in America, wouldn't you give him some warning that you were going to be held up-in GERMANY?

Aww, Ned... Surely you knew what you getting into when it came to being Nancy's boyfriend. And Nancy, fights are sometimes a part of a relationship. I like them together. They're nice. (Why exactly are Frank and Joe with Ned? The boys live in Bayport and Ned lives in River Heights... Good guys, Frank and Joe, trying to help Ned and Nancy out)...

I'd agree except that Frankenstien is the name of the scientist, not the monster he created. The monster is never given a name, just referred to as 'the monster'
