hi George .future videos id like to see is more about fishing gear ,and tackle , and also i loved where you were doing interviews with other fishermen so would like to see that bought back . as a newbee and hoping to start fishing next year any fishing gear chat or advice would be great ,cheers
Liked your insight on your hunting, it's more important that the ecosystem is conserved, this serves everyone. Casting is definitely one, closing and tightening loops, casting under trees. I like the history on where the flies you tie came from. As always will continue to order your exceptional flies. Go raibh mile 🙏
Hello George, end off another season in your part of the world and ours starting soon in Down Under.Enjoyed to be with you on this trip, thanks and thumbs up too, Tony.
I'd love you to consider writing and self/publishing a book on the real-world practical aspects of river fishing for wild brown trout based on your personal experiences and 50 years + of accumulated knowledge and tips from your viewpoint...you talk such a lot of common sense to my mind and you have helped my dry fly and nymph fishing, and the confident pleasure it now gives me, a lot ... IMO, you tell a great, clear and natural story that educates and entertains, which could be combined with great photos ( another of your skills and interests) into a single 'go-to' book... and maybe offer curated boxed sets of your unique specialist flies by season for purchase online to accompany the book...I for one would love to read/hear your story ...all the best and thanks a lot George
Hi ...like you I love fly fishing in Irish rivers . Particularly dry fly ... I also tie a lot of my own fly's ... I started experimenting with fly's for Pike and as a consequence I went to test a few patterns in the river to see how the perform and A Jake pike took one ... since then I have fished for pike in the larger rivers or stretches of canal on the fly rod during winter months ... I think it's a lovely way to spend a winters afternoon
Thanks as always George …your efforts are very much appreciated mate …I’m so sorry for your hunting circumstances.Habitat destruction and it’s impacts are a lessons we learned the hard way in this country 30 yrs ago ..I truly hope that the powers that be in your neck of the woods get their collective heads out of their ….and start the rehabilitation processes ASAP..
@@springerspanielfulI hear tales of grayling in secret rivers in some of the flyfishing groups I'm in. I couldn't tell you where they are myself, no one ever spills the beans.. but there is lads swear by it.
I've told you so many times George. Fly fishing for pike is in my opinion one of the most challenging and rewarding fly fishing. For me its better than bonefish, sailfish , permit and GT. Trout and Pike are my favorite. Anyone not trying pike thoroughly and with an open mind is seriously missing out.
Great video George I suggest that you do videos on photography and may be on how you take your photographs it would be a great project for over the winter
Quick question for you. What floating fly line do you use ? I'm on the look out for the best reasonable priced fly line that floats the best, some of the cheaper ones I use are slightly under the water and that's where they tend to stay unless I constantly grease them up. Any advice you can offer would be brill as by watching your vids you certainly know how to catch fish !!
Having tried almost every manufacturers flylines from cheap to expensive I've concluded that they all eventually sink, irrespective of price. So I now buy Maxcatch lines from China, in my opinion they all do the same thing.
End of season isn't my happiest time of the year either. Just a thought but maybe cover off season tackle storage (do you treat your fly lines, do you take them off the reel, etc.) I've been in the market for some wading boots, what should I look for and avoid? All the best Sir.
Hard to believe that’s the end off another season, mine runs until the end of October, then it’s the long 4 month wait until we go again! I’m just like yourself , fishing rivers and no interest in still water, can only think of fly tying videos and talking equipment. All the best !
Maybe head out 4 a shot at some clay targets, i know its not hunting but it helps keep ur eye in and u could give some tips on aiming, gun safety, gun care ect. I do a small bit and its great fun. Thanks 4 all the great videos throughout the season 👍 Adrian in kilkenny.
I was going to suggest the stocked rainbows George but if you are not into it then there's no point in filming it. Have you considered flyfishing for pike?
Unfortunately Kenneth it's the only way at present to finance the expenses incurred by the channel, I need more support on Patreon....Support the Channel www.patreon.com/GundogandFly
@@springerspanielful Yes of course. Your videos are brilliant, I watch them time and time again. You are a top man. I watch your fly tying frame by frame and to have adverts come in is so bad. Anyway. I love your channel. Full apologies for ranting over advertising. Kind regards.
I enjoyed your video clips all season and getting to know you. It's been a really bad trout season here in Donegal also. Go raibh míle maith agat. Ádh mór.

I'm not very optimistic about the environment hereabouts, it appears that finance is taking precedence over everything..
@@springerspanielful hang in there mate …
Head to the hills George for a spot of Grayling fishing. Great video as usual... Cheers Shaun
No grayling here in Ireland, never caught or even seen one.

Duly noted..
George. You should do some videos out of season on reading the river and river trout habitat. Would be good knowledge for aspiring fly fishers 👍
Great idea
George, how are the Orvis waders working out?
Just got my first leak, in fairness it's the first after a full season, so best yet.
You could do fly tying vids when the season is over to pass your and our time....love the vids.
Will do..
Have you tried sea fishing,I only took it up last year when the season closed just to stay sane ....
I'm terrified of the sea..
@@springerspanielful we do it from piers or beaches only,nó boat.
