My wife and I saw them in concert a little over a month ago and Adam did this. The crowd went nuts and the performance was about 10 minutes long. Also experiencing Tim's low notes in concert are insane. He has blown speakers out at concerts in the past. You actually feel the bass notes when he goes really low. If they they come close by do yourself a favor and go see them. Their new tour is called Dive Bar Saints.

Adam didn't start bbxg until 2000 when they started the group because.... they needed a bbxr! 😄 So he studied hard using VHS tapes and books on bbxg. He said he was never that kid that made noises his whole life, but he is now. I find that so amusing because we all assumed he was that kid. Tim says he drives him nuts with all the noises and "don't stand too close to him (in spitting distance) without a towel handy". 😄👍 (they tease each other ALL the time. they are true brothers at heart.)

  • @dogtrainerjen

Yep, I'm one of the HOG Fries! 😂😂 Adam said he learned to play the drums enough to get the movements correct. I'm guessing he downplays it. His whole family is musically inclined and he likely plays multiple instruments. He has a degree in trumpet.
Also, many of his sounds are done on the inhale. That, along with his training on trumpet, can really keep him going. Though I heard he nearly passed out twice while recording "American Pie." Huge props! (And yes, please do the more current drum solo. He's come a long way!)
Adam and his brother, Chris (who has since moved on) started the group in college, so he's been at this many years.

  • @carinalindberg7377

Let's just say that I've said right in front of the subwoofer right up at the stage when Adam dropped the bass and I was, literally, blown backwards 😂 It was during a song, though, and not during his solo. I was prepared for that. 😁
As for it only being Adam on stage during his solo, it's the way it should be because the audience wants to, and some need to, actually see what he's capable of without anything else going on. And when you experience it live you get blown away. Every. Single. Time. You get by all of them in different ways, but Adam's solo is something unique.
Their concerts aren't just concerts, they are shows. True entertainment with not just gorgeous music, but also a whole lot of laughter and adjust interaction with the audience. That's why we keep coming back for more. I've seen them 18 times in 8 different countries, so far, here in Europe and it just never gets boring. Great reaction as always! Thanks!

I've heard that he can play all the standard band instruments to some extent, and also that he learnt drums to get the hand movements right. His degree is in trumpet performance, which is one of the things he credits with giving him the breath control to do what he does.
He's pretty much self-taught, he and his brother Chris got an acapella group together for a church talent show back in 2000 and he volunteered to do the beat-boxing. Someone asked him in 2017 (I think it was) how long it took him to be confident that he could keep going for a whole concert, and he said 15 years or so.

Watch a vid of Lewis Armstrong (very old-time jazz trumpet player) his cheeks would puff up huge from cheeks to collar bone while he was playing. I suppose Adam's throat muscles are similar.
As to where do you learn to do that... My son might have been famous to this day if I hadn't told him, "If you make that stupid noise at the dinner table one more time I will murder you and bury you in the garden!" He drove me nuts making sound effects. If he opened a book it sounded like a creepy vampire coffin opening. If he walked across the floor it sounded like a huge robot walking. When we drove in the car he sounded like a back-firing old jalopy.
Yes, don't apologize for pausing. We are here to hear a reaction. Everyone who wants to hear the piece uninterrupted can go listen to the original! If you sit there all polite and quiet, saying and doing nothing, why would I want to watch? I'm not saying you're hard to look at, but I've got a husband in the other room here that I think is just the cutest thing. He falls asleep watching TV most nights and I can go watch him do nothing any time I want.

Back when Home Free was new they needed a beat boxer so Adam took it upon himself to learn it. If I'm not mistaken, he learned it all from videos and books and practiced until he was satisfied with each skill. He is even better now than when this video was made. He was never into beat boxing until he and his brother, Chris started Home Free. He really didn't just pick it up, he set his mind to learn it for the band and he works hard and is still adding new sounds to his repertoire.

His brother asked him over 20 years ago if he wanted to start an a capella group. He said once they decided to do it his brother decided to learn to beatbox. Great reaction, guys! Adam has 20+ years of beatboxing experience since Home Free started. Imagine how much better he's gotten since this video that was 6 years ago! If you are serious about wanting to see them live (you won't be disappointed), try to get seats as close to the front as possible if you want to feel any vibrations from Tim's bass, or Adam's bass-dropping during his beatboxing! You can find their schedule at www.homefreemusic.com/tour .
As far as the guys backing him during his beatboxing, check out a live version of Dolly Parton's cover of "9 to 5" where all five have a beatbox breakdown midway through the song! It's amazing! There are some with their original found, Chris Rupp (Adam's brother) before 2016, and some after he left and Chance joined the group win June 2016. Worth checking out!!

Interesting fact: the lowest recorded note in a Home Free song was an A0 from Adam throat singing it and not Tim Foust! And, Adam Rupp has a BEAUTIFUL tenor voice, by the way... he does NOT have a low voice, whatsoever. He is a master at his craft, though.

I did wonder that ,thanks as I easy to forget he has to be able to “ make “ those low ( and high ) notes

ADAM RUPP IS ACTUALLY A TRAINED TRUMPET PLAYER. THERE IS A NEW DRUM SOLO DATED NOV. 2, 2021 AND ONE ON NOV. 4 HE USES HIS LOOPING MACHINE. I THINK THE ONE ON THE 4RH WAS BETTER IT WAS CLOSER TO THE STAGE . CHECK OUT 9 TO 5 LIVE IT IS DIFFERENT THAN THE OFFICIAL VID. THEY ALWAYS ADD TO THE SONGS DONE LIVE.ALSO CHECK OUT TWO VIDS WHERE IN ONE TIM CAUSED A MAJOR VIBRATION TO THE CAMERA THAT WAS RECORDIED BY AN AUDIENCE MEMBER AND AT AN OUTDOOR CONCERT [LOOK FOR TIM WEARING A HEADBAND] TIM BLOWS THE SUBWOOFER ALSO EVERYONE PLATS INSTRUMENTS SOME MORE THAN ONE.

This is getting real good guys! Now that you have a realistic idea of what Adam can do i am on to the next reaction of HF.

Adam uses false vocal folds to get to those deep bass beats, but I don't know that you'd see them. When he sings, he's a tenor. Like, there are songs without beatboxing (or parts of songs) where there's this high note way up above the melody that goes on forever. And at first you think it's Austin, and then you realize Austin is singing and that note is still there. That's Adam. He can hold a note for miles.

He's definitely a drummer, self-taught as well as learning beatboxing. He has an even better solo in 2018--this was one of the earlier ones. Always great!

He learned the drums so his moves were authentic . He has a music degree and the trumpet was his instrument ( I played trumpet a little and the tonguing you learn will definitely help with at boxing ! )

Loving your videos, and your breakdowns! Anyone who doesn’t like pausing should watch the videos directly, and not via a “reaction” channel.
Highly recommend Kevin Olusola (PTX beatboxer) cover of “Down.” He’s also known as KO. It is also mind blowing

I wasn't at this particular show, but I did see them on this tour. There's a whole lot of bass that the recording didn't pick up, especially at the end there. I remember it making everything shake and feeling it reverberate in my chest and just being in awe. Lol

Love the "Eat Bertha's Mussels" bumper sticker, guys. I lived in Baltimore in the 80s, and I've eaten at Bertha's. And I've heard the folk song. Both tasty.
