I think what made the original JENOVA and certain other themes involving said Calamity was they had that "alien" or bizarre twist to the music. It subtly gave the player more intuition that JENOVA was obviously not from around here. The newer themes honestly seem to highlight a more Sephiroth adaptive theme. Which given the theories of where this is going, makes sense but still loses the initial vibe.
@RealMendontdeletecomments I think Cosmo Canyon did a great job maintaining that OG atmosphere, but some OSTs are really over the top and with a lot of instruments when, sometimes, less is better, like in Costa Del Sol, with something like Old Sharlayan's Night Theme from FF XIV (with just an acoustic guitar and some percusion) would be cool as well
I'm sorry this remake of the original track just feels so generic and bland. It loses all of the intensity, urgency and character of the original in favor of an over-produced, characterless orchestral piece with none of the original sound palettes. Would have much prefered a high def remastering of the original with more layering or expanded sound fonts instead of this.
You know there's three phases to this song, right? The first one, which plays until JENOVA is at half health, is slow and foreboding. The second phase ramps up the urgency a little. And then when JENOVA is at one-quarter health, the third phase kicks in, which is basically a high-def remaster of the original like you wanted.
I think what you mean to say is, the first 2 parts aren't intense. But you need your ears checked if you don't think the third part isn't a high def remastering of the original with more much more layering. Also, remember that we haven't even fought the original Jenova in the original game until after leaving midgar. This is just a small teaser of what's to come.
