This was such an important scene in the movie. It shows that this kidnapping/ransom means more than just $ to Jimmy Shaker. He resented rich people like Mullen (especially those w/ shady pasts- like Mullen) Shaker would do anything & everything to beat Mullen & he would never stop.
@@cgh7337he ends his ability to achieve the ransom in this scene alone. Mullen realizes he's not just out for money. He's a sleazy psychopath gone bad. He wants to make a point with the kidnapping, wants to kill his son, and the money is almost secondary to the primary goal
"Pick me up asshole" lol. Gary Sinise does such a good Villain, in De Palma's 'Snake Eyes' also, one of my favorite underrated actors along with Jeff Goldblum.
HG Wells' wrote the most accurate depiction of the future. That's where we're heading - a society divided in two. The haves and the absolute cannibals.
Powerful scene, the movie is great, I watched it not one time, I still like it, the plot is very interesting, these actors are good, this movie is one of the best!
And while I can't because of how he is an arrogant asshole he is, there are moments I almost find myself relating to him (especially his monologue about the morlocks and elois). Tom is shady himself. Still I can't get myself to hate Tom and love Jimmy at all.
Gary such a great actor! Great good guy and a great physotic bad guy. When I was a kid in 1970. I watched a movie with Rod Taylor. He plays a scientist who invents a time machine. He goes into the future. Great movie. The Eloise and morelocks.

@@heathernks8 Fun fact, i watched that video yesterday, and i left a comment addressing this movie scene, where gary is talking to mel about the time machine. This is so ironic. that you commented me about it.
I have to say even though Gary Sinese is a bad guy in this he sure makes the movie “The Time Machine” sound really great. In fact this is the scene I recall most because it is the first time a character in a movie made me want to watch a movie referenced inside another movie. Unfortunately Gary Sinese’s version and storytelling of the movie “the time machine” is better than the actual movie.
Nah...they'll just have a revolution. But the rich can always distract them by saying the enemy is without. Putin invading Ukraine for example, to distract him and his oligarch cronies theft of Russia's future.
Except the leadership of Hamas are the Eloi. Living in their expensive condos in Dubai. And ordering the Palestinians in Gaza to endure a predicable reaction to October 7th.

Jeff Goldblum sucks. His racist ass was on "Friends." White Germanicist Allied supremacist asshole.

Seems like they hide the fact that this is HG Wells. As if the ordinary audience is not supposed to know such things.

For as much of an asshole Jimmy Shaker was, he was pretty philosophical in this one part.
Agreed. Also they made him three dimensional rather than a one dimensional villain giving him some depth even though you hate him.
And while I can't because of how he is an arrogant asshole he is, there are moments I almost find myself relating to him (especially his monologue about the morlocks and elois). Tom is shady himself. Still I can't get myself to hate Tom and love Jimmy at all.

Boy this is apt in 2021.
1:19 I could be wrong, but this looks just like the gas station used in the movie 'Bird on a Wire'!
awesome scene
My favorite part of the movie it’s actually what got me to watch the time machine I love the original and the 2002 remake!
@John Sampson yes the original is more charming

I just read the book. Need to go d the movie now.

Mel Gibson's character had a slippery sense of ethics.
Shaker wishes he was an Eloi, we all do. Who wants to be a Morlock.
Arthur Schopenhauer.
I don’t, we will destroy all pathetic greedy elois, just wait and see

I've got to try watching the time machine
There's at least two versions if you don't count the PBS Wishbone version - which, in some strange ways, might be considered the best version, maybe.
You've probably already watched it. The it I refer to being the original 1960 one. The remake is garbage, like almost all remakes these days.
The most amazing thing about this scene is the gas prices @ 1:16.

Right now they'll pay you to take the gas!

I could imagin Tim Allen plays the father in ransom Mel Gibson looked like Tim Allen
gary looked a bit like the original emperor palpatine with those baggy eyes of his.
It would be awesome to see him play in a thriller.
He played a serious role in the movie Redbelt and played it really well, I think he could do a good job in a thriller.
