This was such an important scene in the movie. It shows that this kidnapping/ransom means more than just $ to Jimmy Shaker. He resented rich people like Mullen (especially those w/ shady pasts- like Mullen)
Shaker would do anything & everything to beat Mullen & he would never stop.

@@cgh7337he ends his ability to achieve the ransom in this scene alone. Mullen realizes he's not just out for money. He's a sleazy psychopath gone bad. He wants to make a point with the kidnapping, wants to kill his son, and the money is almost secondary to the primary goal

And while I can't because of how he is an arrogant asshole he is, there are moments I almost find myself relating to him (especially his monologue about the morlocks and elois). Tom is shady himself. Still I can't get myself to hate Tom and love Jimmy at all.

I have to say even though Gary Sinese is a bad guy in this he sure makes the movie “The Time Machine” sound really great. In fact this is the scene I recall most because it is the first time a character in a movie made me want to watch a movie referenced inside another movie. Unfortunately Gary Sinese’s version and storytelling of the movie “the time machine” is better than the actual movie.
