Interaction types, secret types, Orographic Precipitation & Rain Shadows. Understanding how to tweak some of these settings would be helpful to getting better custom worlds.
I had a problem with a magma cart. It works most of the time, but as magma flows back in and around the pool it can push the cart off the track. How do i set it up in such a way that this does not occur? I was thinking of trying to run it down a pool that is 2 z levels deep, where the section on the surface is just for the ramp and supported on the sides. On the lower z level it should functionally always be full and no current should move it. I haven't tested it yet. Im still worried it'll sometimes fail due to current pulling it off. This design was for bringing it up to the surface level for both obsidian creation and a potential defense of dropping loads on attackers, but i was keeping the test loop small to get it working first before going all the way to the surface.
I have been playing DF on and off for over a decade now, and to this day I still have never touched minecarts, it just always seems really overwhelming. This does make me more tempted to try them out though
It depends on how long they spend underwater. They start drowning (like they would if they fell into deep water) and accumulating swimming skill (one of the only consistent ways to train this skill without risk of death if they fail to climb out), and if they're taken back out of the water before they fully drown, they're fine (potentially unhappy at nearly drowning though). Any dwarf taken through magma in a minecart will perish almost immediately, obviously.
I tried to replicate the minecart mist generator that so that i can make a new type of mist generator that is not recycling the same water over and over and i dont know know if the water flowing out of the minecart ore the minecart landing on the water is the thing that generates mist but i have now a question. Dose mist not work above ground, cuz i had mist and they where happy seeing a masterfully crafted windmill, happy making a lover and happy for other reasons but they never said anything about being near a waterfall. Dose it need to come from 1 z level above. Edit Wiki said that when they walk throw it they have happy thoughts In the designated meeting area they where pretty static so maybe that was the problem.
Quick tutorial showing efficient way to connect 100 z levels. Minecart spiral down with rollers maybe. My base is in upper levels but mining gold at -100z, I try to make track spiral but no idea how many rollers need to power cart up or how much power it needs. Also moving items down, probably using gravity with carts or just a hole and dropping it 100 levels
You don't need it powdered, it's fine to get a dwarf to guide it, gives the kids something peaceful to do But if you want it powered anyway just make two spirals, one for the way down and one up (non powered one spiral goes both ways) and add a track stop/roller every 4 levels and adjust the friction/acceleration via trial and error starting very slow You only need power to guide it up and rollers don't use much power, so the power consumption will be mostly just your gears and such

What happens if a magma filled cart is submerged into a 7/7 pool of water? Or a water filled cart in lava?
Is there any purpose choosing between fortifications, grates and bars for flingin lava or water or objects?
Fortifications can't be knocked over by anything but aside from that nope.

Its the water in mid air that generates the mist.
Oooh, what about a long, single-width hallway down which, say, a lead minecart could be flung?
As long as it does not hit a horse which would stop it instantly and jam the system. Get it going fast enough and we call that a cart grinder.
