The thing that doesn’t help 10 Songs is that it was released during Covid, meaning that they couldn’t tour the album. When the restrictions where lifted, they rarely played any of the albums tracks live

More than happy Travis got the go ahead. All the albums are good and I like all of them. The Man Who is the best by them, the others are liked equally, for once there is no preference

Good list - I might rank slightly differently, but I think I would agree with most of your selections and comments. Be interested to hear, now that it is out, where you would put LA Times in this list? Having listened to it a couple of times now, I think it is probably an above average release, so maybe in the middle somewhere. Probably need to give it more time, and re listen to the other albums.

@@markedwards3927 LA Times will be reviewed by me on the next episode of Chuchu Reviews in a few weeks. I haven't listened to it yet but I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Travis are an unusual band for me… I knew their first five albums and to a certain extent liked them all… Listening to their complete discography was at times a little tiresome, so many similar slow songs, nothing bad but blandness personified… That being said, 25% I liked a lot, this was not a surprise, I expected it to be pretty strong … I like Frans voice, it hits my happy spot… Despite there being a multitude of songs in a similar vein, I dislike little… It would be very easy to cherry pick a decent playlist and given time maybe more would grow as I start to tire of the chosen ones… I enjoyed this deep dive, some great B’s too…
09… Everything At Once (2016) … Magnificent Time, All Of The Places, What Will Come, Strangers On A Train … I don’t think that any of the albums deserve a score lower than a 3*… I’ve heard many albums lower than a 2* or 2.5* that is as low as I would expect to go on this channel, I believe that 2.5 is as low as I have gone… I personally own one or two that would fall below that mark… 3.25*
    08… 12 Memories (2003) … Mid-life Krysis, Walking Down The Hill… 3.25*
07… Ode To J.Smith (2008) … Quite free, Get Up, Friends, Song To Self, Sarah (Bonus)… 3.5*
06… Where You Stand (2013) … Moving, Another Guy, A Different Room, New Shoes, On My Wall… 3.5*
05… Good Feeling (1997) … All I Want To Do Is Rock, Happy, I Love You Anyways, Falling Down, More Than Us… 3.75*
04… 10 Songs (2020) … Waving At The Window, Butterflies, A Million Hearts, All Fall Down3.75*
03… The Invisible Band (2001) … Sing, Flowers in the window, The Cage, Safe, Afterglow… 4.0*
02… The Boy With No Name (2007) … Travis - 3 Times And You Lose, Selfish Jean, Closer, Battleships, Eyes Wide Open, My Eyes, Out In Space, Sailing Away… 4.5
01… The Man Who (1999) … Writing To Reach You, As You Are, Driftwood, Turn, Why Does It Always Rain On Me?, Luv… Such A good album, it was on my list for Chuchu Reviews… 5*
    SONGS…
10… Battleships … The Boy … my standout from the 2007 album
09… Sailing Away … The Boy … Melodious and love the discordant parts…
08… Luv … Man …Close between this and ‘As You Are’…
07… Selfish Jean … The Boy … Wish they had more up tempo songs like this…
    06… Closer … The Boy … Delicate, fragile beauty…
    05… Side … IB … Classic Travis…
04… Magnificent Time … EAO … Paul Simon meets James… Boy In The Bubble meets Sit Down…
03… All Fall Down … 10 … Reminiscent of Coldplay, personally I much prefer Travis… Coldplay’s very best songs probably would score higher in a ranking of both though…
    02… Afterglow … IB … Beautiful…
01… All I Want To Do Is Rock … GF … My first taste of Travis and still loving it…
I guess Travis just do their own thing, they seem to be very comfortable in the skin that they occupy, meaning that they don’t need to experiment and potentially alienate the fan base that they have built… Sure, it’s mostly pretty samey, to me it matters not, If anyone needs a band that can push themselves in multiple directions then just look elsewhere, there are a fair few that can pull it off… Travis obviously are not that kind of band, what they are is dependable and consistent, for myself there is very little drop in quality anywhere along their timeline, the highs are not always to the same degree but rarely do they drop the quality below a certain point… If you want an exciting car don’t buy a Toyota Corolla but if you want something to get from A to B without an headache then a Corolla could be a very good choice, Travis are not for everyone but they give me exactly what I want, if I need more, then I too will look elsewhere… It takes all sorts and variety is the spice of life though that variety does not have to come from the same musical entity…
You ran a pole pitting Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol & Travis and here are my thoughts… Coldplay: When ‘Parachutes’ came out I bought it on that very day, I pre ordered it (a rarity for me), played it constantly for weeks, then came ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’, I just didn’t like it that much and my love for them has plummeted since… Keane: A very similar thing with their first album ‘Hopes and Fears’, for myself ‘Parachutes’ & ‘Hopes and Fears’ are the two best albums by any of the four… Their second ‘Under The Iron Sea’ I preferred to Coldplays second, it was downhill from there… Snow Patrol: I was not familiar with them but have done a little catching up… Easily the weakest of the four outputs, not a band for me… Ultimately, I am not a fan of Coldplay but they have arguably the strongest album and for my money some of the best songs… If I was to pick my faves of the four then Keane would take both gold medals; ‘Hopes and Fears’ for my favourite album and ‘Everybody's Changing’ as my song pick… Ultimately though, Travis would get more of my own air time than any of the others, for my money a strong if it is not the most varied discography…

To be honest I only know one album by Snow Patrol. Personally I think the band are garbage. But I do absolutely love the song 'Run' though. That's a great tune. Otherwise Snow Patrol can do one. I like the second Coldplay a lot more than you do. But I also like Parachutes a lot less. Subjectivity, eh. 🤪

@@tokyochuchu I may have made Coldplay's second album sound like I don't like it at all, that is not the case, it was in my ten for the year of release, however it is true that I don't view it in the same light as 'Parachutes', though the highs are higher in my opinion on 'AROBTTH'... As I say, if we all ranked everything the same, musicians would be totally wasting their time... Just for the record I don't dislike Coldplay but I do not believe they will ever be a favourite of mine, still I said that forty odd years ago about Depeche Mode, so who knows what direction my future tastes will take, It would be a lengthy list of those I once spurned & now love and those that I once loved but now dismiss... I enjoyed this one, Thank you...🙂🙂
