Be redundant with your power. Have propane, and the heat plate style conduction burners at the ready when you have enough solar. Have your water heater to store energy when you have enough sun, and use your diesel heater when you don't. Etc...

Is it a good idea to put a small computer fan to vent the solar system cabinet to keep it cool?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Redundancy is best. Love your show. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

With regard to power generation in the PNW (I’m in BC) could you comment on the smaller dual fuel-super quiet newer generators? A lot of people are putting them in”hush boxes” and they have remote start. You can plumb them into your large propane tank (if you go propane) and people say that they have extended life running on propane + if you fill the onboard gas tank (on the generator) you have another level of redundancy as far as heat and fuel. This is our plan to this point. We would really appreciate BOTH of your highly educated opinions😁🙏

There is a difference between lithium ION & lithium IRON batteries. Lithium ion are more energy dense (get more range in cars which is why they are used there) however, they are prone to thermal runaway and thus fires. Lithium iron are used in RV's and boats because they are not prone to thermal runaway fires which may be due to it's lower energy mass.

how about a video about options - electric, gas, wood - weigh the what/where/when/why ...

Hey Chuck. Is it possible to add adjustable solar panels to the back and sides of a bus? The idea would be to have them lay flat against the sides and back of the bus & locked in place while driving, then when you find a nice sunny spot to park, you could deploy the panels into a horizontal attitude & lock them in that position so they would collect the rays for as long as you choose. Then when it’s time to leave, you can return the panels to their traveling position and lock them down so they wouldn’t rattle while driving. The added advantage is that when you are parked and the panels are deployed, they also serve as an awning to block some of the heat that would otherwise hit the walls of the bus & increase interior temperatures. Does this sound totally insane? Has anything like this been tried before?

What about a total diesel for heat, water and cooking? A lot of ferry boats and tunnels will only allow 40lbs of propane.

Duel pane are gas charged and rapid elevation change can rupture the seals and the are really not designed for bouncing down the road.

Propane is a total go. Recoro has the best tankless water heater. And our RV oven/stove system is great as well. We made our own propane mount under the bus for two tanks- and we never worry about running out or moving them around!

There is some good info on safety for lithium batteries on the UL Fire Safety Academy. And as Brianna says: use multiple flame/heat/smoke detectors for early warning..you could even use some kind of RF connection to send an alarm to u. For example off grid Lora..

Dennis here Building out my first bus and your my go to for all things bus! Following your builds and adding a few pro procedures myself really want to say thanks and your the only one in my opinion that does it right. I’m putting a 24 volt victron system with 6bifacal 460 panels with two 24 volt 150 amp hour will that be a big enough battery bank to run everything on 110 refrigerator mini split and lighting as well as a 1100 watt micro the stove and water heater are both gas.
