    What's your top Scrivener tip? Sound off below!

    • @KutWrite
      @KutWrite 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The place holder tip might help me. I've inserted images. They look good in Scrivener, but slide between lines when I export into Word or PDF. I'll try it and see... IF the feature exists in my Linux version. That's an older version that was converted years ago and hasn't been supported by Scrivener.

      What I like about placeholders for images is you can also specify size, such as (120 points wide) or (55 points high). I use an icon (same icon) above each chapter title, and another for significant scene breaks.
      You can also set a ginormous width, like 'w=600' for an image that you want to span the entire page's width, and there is an option in compile that will just take that and make it whatever width the page is, and that is, from what I've seen, followed properly by e-readers.

    Omg dude. I don´t know if u read this comment because this video is from 2018, but the first tip (paste and match style) just saved my life after the probably most depressing 60 minutes of my life.
    I cannot say thank you often enough.

    I’ve posted on Literature and Latte’s forum twice about disappearing images between my iPad, Windows 10 laptop, and Windows 10 desktop and to this day (approximately two years from the first instance), aside from one vague mention about copy/pasting images maybe being part of the problem, no one has informed me as much in all that time as you did in the time it took you to describe tip number one.
    That was one long sentence, but I mean it...I think you solved my problem. Too tired after a day at work but I’m going to experiment with that ASAP.

    I'm working on a series converting from Word, Libra and Fadein and now have four stories up on Scrivener tabs so I can keep track of the characters and keep the stories flowing. The data collection tools freak me out, I blocked the program from reaching out past my firewall so no crash reports or anything else. Getting to 80000 words is so hard though! My stories range in the 25000 range. Well, 54000 now. Its difficult. Your tips helped me out so much. Thank you!

    My best scrivener tip (being very new to the system) would be to turn off 'include in compile' on your character sketch/setting sketch templates so that when you have dozens of them they don't inflate your word count.
    Thank you for introducing me to this program, sir.

  • @KutWrite

    I have a Novel template based on the Writer's Journey... with some tweaks. It has only chapter names and a line explaining what each chapter does.
    I start in notecard mode and put a few lines about what should happen in each chapter, or a scene I know I'll use and where it goes. When I"m done, there's a scattering of descriptions in some of the key plot point chapters.
    As I get new ideas, I plug 'em in wherever they go, not in chrono order.
    Eventually, I have enough verbiage in the whole document to go into text mode and start adding more details. Then I start at chapter one and write the rest. If something doesn't fit, I flag it or move it if I know where it should go. Splitting inserting or merging chapters is a cinch, too.

    Scrivener noob here, so glad to be done with MS Word! Question, though, if you don't use numbered lists, how would you create a numbered list - perhaps just typing each number? That has its own problems, when your list is long and you need to renumber. BTW, thanks for the tips!

    • @AuthorLevelUp
      @AuthorLevelUp  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scrivener allows you to do numbered lists. You can either type the number or select the feature from the menu. It just doesn’t do them well, and they don’t render well when you export them to ebook. That’s why I say to avoid them.

    💥 hellllp!!! Lol. Seriously though, what I'm about to ask you I found on another video but I can't find that video right now so I have to ask here ... I'm using the app on my iPad Air, the scrivener app, just purchased it and writing my first novel... You said something about setting the tabs it 025 or was it 0.25? Is that only on the desktop version because when I go to Indians it uses points... I need to know where to set the points in the app, I'm not using the desktop version.. can you please help me with that and also what should the points be for paragraphing, I guess it's called line spacing,
    So there is
    line spacing:
    Spacing before:
    Spacing after :
    Indent :
    I need to know what number I should set it to on those four things...

      These are common to Scrivener 2 and 3. The exceptions are the custom metadata, which exists in 2 but is a bit more robust in Scrivener 3 and the copyholders, which builds upon the split screen feature in Scrivener 2. (Basically, you can do up to 4 splits instead of 2).
