I hate that he gets so much flack for autotune. He uses it in a super creative way, not in a way to mask or hide his voice but to create a vibe for the song. And you can still hear his voice, which is nice.

I remember seeing his Tiny Desk years ago and people being surprised that he's such a great vocalist. All those years of auto tune made people assume it was doing most of the work.
Roger Trautman had a similar effect and people loved it. Also the rapper future uses Auto tune for effect and not just to perfect his voice. Jay Z and others owe T Payne an apology

Not at all. He's been getting his flowers for ages. I do recall his acceptance speech when he famously thanked his haters but other than that he's been getting love since he hit the scene.

I remember seeing one of his tiny desk performance, I was blown away hearing his voice without the autotune effect omg, but I could tell he could sing.
I love how this is broken down. I believe alot of people have a voice but lack control and this really helps get at least a basic understanding of how to hit notes and understand what you’re hearing. Definitely appreciated

I'm assuming anyone here has already watched the full live show from the sun rose but if you havent, please do yourself the biggest favor and go listen to the whole thing. It is just so good. Somewhat unfair to have a MULTI MULTI. PLATINUM Professional Singer/producer competing against newcomers,but I could see him being a judge in the next five years
When you started talking about just letting the song walk/breath, it reminded me of what my old band teacher used to express to us. A song is made up of both sound and silence, and sometimes you have to let the silence be the musical aspect as well. I think it gets forgotten that silence or "letting the song be" is such a crucial piece to remember because it provides a context too.

Ikr right but honestly on his first album he had songs where he sang a lot, but people don’t know that even with the auto you could here him sing and without it he still sounds the same without the auto affect just better.
He explained why in an interview. As a black entertainer he needed a gimmick so to speak to stand out, because at the time amazing Ro&b singers were a dime a dozen. Unfortunately it got out of control and he was boxed into the image and eventually left to do more producing work before coming back showing the Real T-Pain

The misconception was that he used autotune because he couldn't sing. T-Pain can SANG. He used autotune to create a vibe. I'm glad he's allowing us to see the real him. No facade. No gimmicks. Always my favourite artist from the 00s.
