Hey Helen, for some reason the sound for this video is no longer playing, which is a shame because this was one of the first videos I ever watched to learn how to make Vietnamese salad rolls! I think it may be time for you to re-do this video, if you haven’t already! Cheers and have a wonderful day!
I made this for dinner with my nephew and a Chinese student who lives with us. It was our first time but no failures because we had watched your video and followed your instructions. I made a double batch of the dipping sauce. It was wonderful. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your Vietnamese food recipes Helen, I lived in Vietnam for 1 year and fell in love with the people and food, great video by the way Mark.
I'm Vietnamese and I have eaten some other countries' cuisines but I have to say, Vietnamese food is the best! I don't know if it's because I have been living here for too long or what but when I left the country, I missed the food so bad. We also have amazing views. The people are no doubt really friendly but sometimes they are not polite. But in general, it's a great place to be and if you wanna travel here, you should get yourself a local friend to guide you so that you can enjoy the best quality of everything with the price as cheap as possible!
Sooooooo delicious! I am Lebanese and love must of the Vietnamese food. I make also a dip sauce with peanut butter and coconut milk and add the Hoisin sauce in the spring roll with cilantro. Pho soup and chicken Banh Mi sandwich are my favorite too.
I love the asian no nonsense approach. That knife is quite big, but used for delicate cutting too. Press the meat and if no red water comes out, its done! Brilliant!
Unbelievable!!! I made it this morning and I’m so happy!!! I’m living in Spain and I found all the ingredients!!!! I’ve been in Vietnam and I love Vietnamese food, people and culture.
I normally hate videos that are about making food. But I was watching a C# Game making tutorial and your ad popped up. I thought "Eh. Why the hell not?" Came on over here and after this video, I subscribed lol. These aren't 'hard' to do and you don't have an ego the size of forever. You really, legitimately want the person who's watching to learn and that's why you got my subscription.
I followed the recipe and made them on the weekend. It's a big success! People who have tasted them commented that they tasted far better than those in the Vietnamese restaurants (Cdn$6 for 2 rolls). Thanks a lot, Helen!
Thank you for your easy and simple to follow recipe. I live in Guadalajara, Mexico, but I used to live in Los Angeles,California and I used to go to Orange County, Little Vietnam for the Vietnamese Bread (I hope you send me a recipe for the bread) I always wanted to make Spring Rolls and Now thanks to you I can't wait to prepare this delicious and healthy meal. Thank you Helen.
LOVE LOVE your recipes, Helen! I just used your sauce recipe and it was AMAZING! I did add about 1/2TBSP of sriracha sauce to balance the sweetness a little bit and add a hint of spiciness. My family loved it. I'm going to make your pho soup tonight - have made it before and family says it's better than most Vietnamese restaurants! :) Thank you!!
you can also prevent the rice paper from sticking to each other if you place long pieces of lettuce between them. Not only is this method eco friendly but it also keeps the spring rolls fresh and moist, plus it adds as an additional healthy snack to snack on as well.
@Lauren well in Vietnam we also use herb to compliment the dish. I know it’s a western thing to have only lecture in their dish. In Vietnam we also plan for young lecture because its taste bitter, but in Canada I saw lettuce is darn big and taste like water even the roman one. It’s also a truly insult to Vietnam salad and dish to only put lettuce in. You can agree or not that compares to other herb, lettuce is bland and taste like water. Maybe your culture is different from us.
Dont worry about it. Your English is perfectly fine and it does not need subtitles. The video is outstanding. I´ve tried this recipe many times and I love it. :)
the background music pulled at my heartstrings :') made me tear up in the most wonderful way :') I'm travelling Vietnam in September. Cannot wait :D xoxo
Thank you so much! My son is going on a toad trip and I didn’t know how to contain so the rice paper isn’t hard. I know what to do and my son is going to be so happy! Spring rolls are his favorite!!!
Hi, Helen! Your videos are really excellent! I am happy to know that these days you can get all (or most?) ingredients in Hamburg, the city in which I was born and raised. Thanks and best wishes! Ron, Seattle, USA
Hi Helen. , you are our Vietnamese Martha Stewart . You are the best cook. . Your cooking is very healthy and nutritionist. ,! :) I am vietnsmese . My hubby Is Caucasian , he loves this recipe . Thank so much .
Thanks Helen, will try this soon, looks great. You were very good with your explanation and enjoyed your sweet personality and the music in background, very calming (like the spring rolls will be!).
What a lovely video, it was so easy to follow and made me feel so relaxed. The choice of music was perfect, Thank you. I am going to have a shot at making these I have eaten them and I think they are my favorite of all the tasty things you make. :)
r4b32t11 you're so lovely How'd you go with your Vietamese rice paper rolls making? I made some today. But want to perfect the skill of 'rolling', have other receipes and next time try different sauces :)
Jenn Franco :) Hi Jenn.. I did make them, not very professional to look at, but they tasted so yummy. I will practice.. I want to really nail the recipe and give them to all my friends..
I live in va beach and I go to pho 79. It's a Vietnamese place to eat. I live the spring rolls there. I can't get enough of them, they are so good. I can also eat all I want and not worry about counting calories either. I searched on TH-cam for a respite and found it and now I going to try to make then on my own.
Miss Helen, thank you very much for sharing. I just cooked pho ga for my Vietnamese friend, a guy who is studying in my country. When he smelled the aroma of the soup, he was so happy as it made him think of home. Some of the ingredients I could not get were saw leaves and lime leaves. Tomorrow, I will make goi cuon for him. I can't find Chinese lettuce so I going to use lettuce.
Wow woman, I met you here today, watched some vids and immediately subscribed, Your are good...ans I love asian styles of cooking. Kind regards, Hans ( Netherlands), I'll be watching you..;-)

Vietnamese cuisine such as delicious pho, tasty banh mi, luscious goi cuon, savory cha gio, delectable banh xeo... all original dishes with fresh ingredients that have only in Vietnam. Welcome to Vietnam.
I made these today and I totally think its worth the time. Also my first time working with rice paper and knowing about the cooking concept of mise en place (french for everything in its place) is critical as the paper will become too sticky to the surface you are working on if you don't move fast. The sauce is what my local Vietnamese restaurant makes for their spring rolls too. Thanks Helen
I made your ChaGio over the weekend. Everybody in the family thought they were so close to the Vietnamese restaurant we use go to. I'm going to make Goi Cuon today. The recipe seems pretty simple to me since I am Japanese. Maybe next week we will try Bun Thit Nuong since I already bought fresh lemon grass. I used to order this dish all the time. Wish me luck. Love your cooking!!!
I tried it and shared it with my friends of asian descent and they said it came out awsome... WOW yu saved me my friend.. Guess i also proved how i am interested in their culture and cooking.. Again Thank you Helen
Thank you, Helen I love your style of cooking and you subtle humor too. I made my first spring rolls tonite using pulled pork, cucumber, zuccinni, Gr onions, and carrot matchsticks. like you say "UMMM Yummy" they were very good. Thank you again
I made your spring rolls tonight and my husband loves them! The more rolls you make the easier it gets. I love your channel! I even made your pork bún recipe tonight too! Was a little scared of the fish sauce smell but you were right. The pork was delicious!
You can try this: lay the rice paper on a flat, shallow dish or any clean surface, use a sprayer to moist the rice paper, it will not soften nor sticky yet. The key is to moist the rice paper, not to wet them, you need some practices to find the right amount of water, the sprayer will give you better control. Without hurry, put in the ingredients, the rice paper will getting soft during this process. Finally roll it, if the rice paper too sticky, wet your finger will a wet towel. Hope this help :)
I will try making this, with chicken though. For me, the hardest part about making spring rolls has been the rice paper. This video helps alot with how to properly handle the rice paper. Cám ơn.
Your video is the best I've seen by far!! Thank you for such an easy and authentic way of making the spring rolls. You also make the food look very appealing

I'm vegetarian, and I use avocado to be a great substitute for meat, to bring a bit of bulk the the spring roll.
The ingredients I used were:
Avocado (not mushy, but firm YET it should have a bit of a yield when you squeeze it.)
Basmati rice (also works well with sushi rice or any other type), seasoned with salt and rice vinegar.
Carrot ribbons (use carrot peeler to create thin ribbons
Yellow Zucchini (peel, and cut into thin strips)
iceberg lettuce (cut up, or whole leaves)
Arugula (cut up or whole leaves)
Red bell pepper (cut into thin strips)
Chives (cut with a pair of scissors, into small pieces and sprinkle into the filling)
Dipping sauces:
Peanut butter sauce: (cook as seen in this video)
2 tbs peanut butter
5 tbs olive oil
1 tsp sesame oil
cheyenne pepper to taste
soy sauce
1 tps honey
I also had teriyaki/sesami seed sauce, store bought, and small bowl or regular soy sauce with mixed in wasabi.
Yes, there are a lot of Japanese ingredients here, but as long as the end result is delicious, who cares right?

You can try this: lay the rice paper on a flat, shallow dish or any clean surface, use a sprayer to moist the rice paper, it will not soften nor sticky yet. The key is to moist the rice paper, not to wet them, you need some practices to find the right amount of water, the sprayer will give you better control.
