    Welcome to World of Rock Hounds!
    Today,
    Chris and I ventured to Lucky Strike and Whistler Springs to try our hand at digging for thundereggs - Oregon's State Rock.
    At the time of this video being made in 2020, this will be the last year that the mine will be open but they do plan on reopening a few years down the road.
    Here is their Facebook page link so you can follow any updates in regards to the mine:
    / lucky-strike-mines-114...
    We had a great time and found some sweet stuff!

    Thanks Kyle! Loved this video so much! I appreciate you and Chris showing us it takes hard work and sometimes unfortunate encounters with bees to find the prize. I also appreciated you showing us how to clean up an overburden and to not leave an overburden. The bees reminded me to restock my first aid kit before my field trips this June. Thanks so much.

      You're welcome and thank you for watching! It was definitely a fun and learning experience. I want to go back there when I'm able to do some more digging!
      That's a good idea to restock your first aid kit!

    I love rock hounding when there is beautiful scenery. Love those large agates you found. Can’t wait to see them cleaned up

    Is Kop still around? and his wife, ? Last time I was there, we camped at the one camping spot under a tree at the lucky strike where they lived.. Had a great time getting to know the owners,and brought home buckets of thundereggs. Some I have yet to cut! Oh memories....good times man, good times.

    Stone at 7:26 would be perfect to clean up an attach n small Easter bunny figurine into to sell.

    I cry whenever you throw away some of those broken thunder eggs. Lol if I found something like that it would make my day. Lol 😂 I love the stuff you find up there I wish I lived there so I could get my hands on that stuff.

      He has piles of thundereggs at home. I'm okay with him passing a few up. Lol.

      Considering it was a fee dig at lucky strike...and i only brought so much money with me. I really had to pick and choose what I took out :)

      World of Rock Hounds yeah I understand. Was the price based on the weight of the rock you got?

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, at the time of filming, it was $2 a lb

    When we were just there at lucky strike I worked pretty hard for a bucket of complete agates. It's a great area up there.

      I heard it's better digging in the spring and a little harder now

      Very much fun! We were there 25 years ago, the bluff looks the same! Very hot weather, my husband and Kop's wife continued to dig. I had to be in shade by 12 noon. But what a haul!

    I am also Kyle, I found my first two baseball size eggs last night after about 1 and a half hours. Both almost have more crystal than rock . So excited to cut them! At Whistler springs .

      @@WorldofRockhounds my whistler eggs polished up nice. But i recently pulled about 20 eggs from naches that are quite nice. One double softball size and about 6 between baseball and softball size.

    It’s broken open but I’ll take it. What were you going to do except break it open?

    What is the value of the small agates you picked up?

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not much value at all as they are. Most common agates are worth maybe 50 cents at best.

    What was the fee at the site? Thanks for sharing! :)

      Oh it's been so long. I went on their FB page and in April of this year, they had it listed as $2 per lb with a 30 lb minimum. It is seasonal so you will have to check their page for when they are open/closed.

    I would love a handful of the agate if you care to share. Thanks to "Rocks for brains" I will be building my own channel called " Just Rocks". My bf thinks I have rocks for brains🤭! He says "they're " Just Rocks", I want to prove him wrong!😁🙄🤔🤗🤗🤗

      If you want to start your own channel, do it!
      It's awesome to be able to have an outlet outside of other social media platforms to show cool rocks :)
