I'm only 15 seconds into the video and I don't hear any blaring, annoying ass dubstep and you actually sound like a normal person so take a thumbs up and Kudos!
@Frdcrgr it really is amazing, I just picked back up again and my mind is blown by the sheer amount of content and all the choices you can make that can really end up affecting gameplay. Bethesda outdid themselves with this one, no wonder fallout 76 was loathed in comparison to this masterpiece
Chatoyant Reverie I definitely agree. I think it’s because they were thinking that building would be just a tiny feature and people wouldn’t use it much, so they didn’t do a great job on it, but then building became one of the best features in the game
That's my issue with the game. Fallout 4 is one of the few RPG games that allows you to build and manage full on settlements, but the building is full of gimmicks that only the experts can show you how to get around. Some of my settlements are looking nice, but I feel like I'm always looking at tutorials for everything since the game's building system is frustratingly unpolished.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you went out of your way to tell us the buttons for the other consoles not many do that great stuff! thanks alot!
+kaymackgee If you have junk in your workbench. Say a teddy bear, grab it and throw it on the ground. Open up the editor and scrap it. Presto space saved. It adds up if you have a lot of junk in the workbench.
Well atleast on ps4 there's a glitch to get unlimited space. All you do is drop all your guns in your settlement, then you go into build mode and store all your weapons in the workshop (NOT SCRAP!) and then a large chunk of your settlement space bar will go down. Then you just retrieve your weapons from the workbench and ta-da! Just keep repeating and you'll be good to go.
+Eurogamer The key combos for PC are a little different than what you described: To select all, press and hold "E", then release. For Height and non-rotational movement, grab selected object(s) by pressing and holding "E". While still holding "E", the mouse wheel adjusts height, while moving the mouse slews the held object(s) around. I hope that clears up any confusion. -Edit. Forgot to thank you for the helpful tips !
If there is nothing left to scrap and the size meter is still full, go to an area with raiders (make sure you have a lot of space in your inventory or you have a follower.) Every time you kill a raider, pick up their weapon or command your follower to do so. After that, go to your full settlement and drop them on the floor in the workshop area. Then go to workshop mode and select "store" on all the weapons. When you do this, the "size" meter will go down. Then take out all the weapons from the workshop and repeat. Infinite space!
@@thatonedude76-56i There's easier way actually. Walk towards your settlement/building workshop (the red one). Press tilde or ~ key to open your console. Use your mouse cursor to click on the workshop, a text should popup where you clicked. Now type in the console: Setav 349 -1 Press enter. Then type: Setav 34b -1 Now you have unlimited size for building.
That clipping trick with the Cement Block base is an ingenious workaround! I'm inspired to completely overhaul my sanctuary settlement and build out a treehouse base!
+Eurogamer I figured out a giltch, you can regane all your size if you bring things from the wasteland drop them on the floor of your settlement and scrap them, or remove things from your workbench and drop them then go to workshopmode sending them back to the workbench. You can have unlimited building to my knowledge right now. I dont know or think im the first to discover this but hope it helps.
About the settlement size: If you run out of space, and you have scrapped everything visible, just take a crapton of weapons, drop them, and store them in the workshop with the editor. They will remain unharmed and you will have a load of building space.
Don't know if it's been posted before, but here's a solution to getting rid of the settlement size limit without mods, hacks or console commands. Best thing is, this works on consoles as well as PC For this, you must gather as many guns as you can find; be it small handguns or rocket launchers. I reccomend buying or scavenging a ton of pipe rifles and hauling them back to your settlment. Now you must drop all the guns from your inventory and go into build mode. From there, you have to store the guns you dropped. Make sure you don't scrap the guns. And ta-daa. Done. Every time you store a gun in build mode, the max size metre will go down a little, so just take your guns out from your storage and repeat the process until you have the size you want.
+ClonesDream Also,if you have a pc and don't feel like downloading mods, place as many gatling lasers as you can on the ground and scrap them. It takes out a good chunk of size limit.
+ClonesDream This may be common knowledge by now but there are 2 more tricks to this. The more mods the guns have, the more is deduced from object count. So you could probably do it with a bunch of fully moded pipe pistols. Second, and most important, you don't have to scrap the weapons, you can just store them. Then get them back from the workbench, drop them and do it again. I'm not sure if this works with the current patch anymore, I'm still on the first version.
This is a very late answer but still: you only need to place two objects that requires wiring and remove the wiring every time you need to place a new object in your settlement, then you rewire them again and continue all the times you need it. To make this simpler just put two power pylons on a shack floor, and then move the shack floor where ever you want to build extra stuff.
Starlight Drive-in I often use Scaffolding, Boxcars, and Metal Shack pieces with some prefabs to make catwalks and elevated communities, freeing the floor and lot below for crops and stalls. Quite a clever idea this treehouse too. A+
Thank you so much for this video, learned so much I never previously knew with base building, will apply all the tips in this video to my base building from now on to create really cool structures!!!
Great video! A great little way to increase your settlement size is to drop weapons in your settlement and scrap them while in workshop mode. It only works with weapons and allows you to make some wonderful settlements.
I suggest for anyone having a problem on energy placements to give it more of an modern look have a place full of generators and then have large connectors across the town to connect to anything u need.
Great freaking tips dude. Like I'm blown away. I thought there was to much stuff blocking my builds but you proved me wrong with that tree house/grouping build tip. No idea that you can do that and be that successful at it. Literally that tip alone opens infinite amount of creativity now. Way to save that for the end. Great way to end this perfect tutorial. Other tutorials just talk right past there own tips while you break it down nice and slow. Thank you this video just made fallout more enjoyable. Also your builds look insane.
They really should put those elevators that are usually on the bottoms of bases on freeways and one in Diamond City(takes you to the mayors office). I think that would be awesome to use in a tree house and add safety.
I wish the settler limit (without mods) was of 5 + CHAR for small settlements and 30 + (CHAR x 2) for the large ones. Otherwise it feels crowded and with a lot of useless settlers on the small ones like the Alley, Zimonja or the Tenpenies. But barren and empty on the large ones like Sanctuary or the Cinema; and because of this it feels unnecessary to keep improving the settlements because with only 20 - 25 people for the big ones, with just 2 or 3 structures you cover all their needs. But if they were 50+ and the settlements had mines worth defending that produced crafting materials; now that would be motivation to fortify and improve the mining facilities and accommodations. I am sure some Mods will eventually take this path, but it would have been wonderful if Bethesda did this from the start. P.D. And make them be able to defend themselves. There is not much motivation to build turrets if they ALL are damaged when you don't arrive to help defend them. Hell a settlement with 120 defense, a single entrance, and all turrets on vantage points get attacked and if you don't go defend it, when you arrive all will need repairs making you waste materials, also all your crops and power generators, and water will need repairs as well. So what is the point? They are only useful when you see the message and go, then the turrets will kill all enemies in 5 seconds without needing your intervention.
+erdvilla F4 cheats: 1. when it comes to damaging settlements while you are gone and which attackers could not have possiblly damaged. 2. In the lockpick routines when a pin breaks without ever moving. 3. When you built a private house for yourself and float it 10' off the ground and barricade the door, yet the place is still full of settlers when you get back from a mission. 4. When you are level 3 Sneak and behind a tree and crouching, and not only can a Raider see you from 200 yards away in the dark, but his shots keep hitting your 98% hidden body with major damage, then when you get to him, you find out that all he had was a pipe pistol. 5... and on and on... Makes me feel better about using exploits.
When you've got the floating floor you can use the small wooden steps to fill in the gaps. Doesn't work as well as the concrete foundations but it only costs wood.
One tip you didn't mention in the middle: scrappable items which you carry in to a build zone and manually scrap on the ground are treated the same as pre-placed items in the build zone. Total buildable area getting near full and you already scrapped everything that was there when you acquired the workshop? No problem. Just go do a bunch of scavving, carry in all the junk, drop it on the ground and scrap it. Observe what happens with the build bar. Works just the same as you describe for the pre-placed objects. Less positive, but fairly confident that manually scrapping weapons and armor on the ground also achieves the same effect, though you miss out on any additional materials you would get from scrapping them at their respective benches if you have the scrapper perk(s).
+Mr Sid they should change engine though i think.game looks like skyrim which is one of the best games ever for me at least and yet the requirements in this case are much higher to play.discourages many players to keep up with the series.loved the whole series and was expecting this one but unfortunately pc couldnt meet even the lower settings to play it.and what buffles me is that i can play witcher and metal gear 5 without any problem and both look amazing.i dont know why this game is so demanding.
+ingion1 They have done more with the engine but yes compared to The Witcher - which is produced by a much smaller studio - it is so much more taxing on systems (and The Witcher is beautiful compared to FO4) although my original comment was more to do with the overall package. So the only way I can now run this at a decent rate is by upgrading to a 980ti. I understand your frustration and agree that they could've done a much better job at optimization.
I went out googling buttons for PS4 and didn’t find anything in about 10 minutes of googling only to press play on the video again and literally a second later you’re showing us the other console buttons. Thank you so so much for this 🖤🖤
Wow, thank you for putting these tips together. I just started FO4 (late I know) and enjoy the Base Building, but was discouraged by some of the limitations addressed in this video. However I have a feeling things are going to change drastically now in my builds. Thanks again, keep up the good work.
I'm just downloading this game on my PC and I'm learning how to play this. You are by far my most informative and fun guide thus far. What an awesome guide. Simple, effective and fun to watch. I'm excited to start playing once it fully downloads. THANK YOU!!!
+Zack Fair ...And while doing so, make your game run sluggish.... ''Not if I have a powerful PC it won't'' Yeah, it will... A powerful PC isn't enough for things to run smooth, the engine itself will have to be able to handle it and.... Well, that limit is there for a reason.
MrThreeWorlds Yeah sorry I know they put that limit there only for laughs... It really have no purpose at all :o Like the loadtimes before entering larger buildings and areas, they only have those to show us that random information, it have absolutely nothing to do with things actually having a limit.
Man, it's been years since this games release, I've had dozens of playthroughs and 100% exactly why I love fallout, every time you see something or play through again your always finding new stuff, even when I go back to fallout NV and 3 still finding new stuff
Thanks so much for this. Was really looking for a lift and distance move option for crafting on Xbox One. The o Clipping techniques explained well too. Thanks again! Subbed.
Regarding the supply lines; if I have three settlements (A, B and C), will they all share their resources even when just connecting them A-B and B-C, or will I have to connect them A-B, B-C, A-C? In other words, is A and C connected if they are both only connected to B? I'm assuming so, since B would logically share resources with both A and C, thus A would also share with C and vice versa.
Once you connect a settlement those settlements share resources. If you connect a settlement to either of those two it will share the resources of both. All three settlements now share the same resources. It acts as a chain.
I built a concrete wall around sanctuary and used the snap houses mod and somehow my sanctuary ended up looking a lot like a alexandria safe zone from the walking dead was never my intention just sort of happened
+Liberty Prime "communism" is really being used as a way to describe dysfunctional governments instead of what it actually is. I mean we could say "capitalism is fucked up" to talk about the United States but that's not true either, it's good on paper just like communism - but the USA sure are fucked up.
I'm obsessed with building settlements and thought I had it pretty much figured out but you've just given me some new tips which will be very helpful and very useful! Thanks an I'm subscribing as my way of saying thanks
+Jonny Nevanranta I used a cheat for the PC version to unlock all the levels and add loads of building materials. It's been very handy for experimenting with builds and perk combos! - Ian
+DamnRooster That's the hard cap which nobody should ever reach without cheats and will crash your game if you gain any exp past by any method (legit or otherwise).
on PC if you release the E button, which you have to do in order to hit it again to actually build the thing, the item you raised or lowered snaps back to where it was. I'm trying to lower vault stairs into the ground, cant do it this way
I really didn't see the point of building bases.. yeah.. I build a few houses.. few crops and stuff.. a few unnamed characters come and walk around.. and every once in a while I have to stop what I'm doing and come back to fend off some stupid raiders or something..
+CapAnson12345 It can be fun because you get to build your base however you want. Just wish they didn't make the settlement size so small without mods or glitches to make it bigger.
+CapAnson12345 : The game experience is unique to everyone that plays it. That's what makes it such a great game. Some people really enjoy spending time with features like this. I've being playing for over twenty hours now & still haven't even begun to look for shaun....
+Aberamentho2010 lmao same here dude. I was about 164 hours into the game and had explored almost every place on the map and did so many side quests before I started getting bored. I was like, "I guess I'll start looking for Shaun now" lol.
It give extra xp and it add gameplay because people attack your settlement and It make me feel like a big shot when I destroy these muthafuckas with my 20 turret guns XD
I'm gonna go ahead and say what everyone is thinking: they need to build a multiplayer mode around attacking and defending bases. you succesfully cap a base? happiness, supplies, and a couple villagers from the other player. you don't? penalties. if not fallout 4 then fallout 5. god that would be so amazing.
+Paradox xodarap Fallout is like Elder Scrolls. Meant to be a single player experience. They won't be doing any multiplayer elements in the main game. If they did they would make a side game like elder scrolls online.
Must be nice to have a wife or girlfriend to game with you. I just ended a 11 year relationship with a girl that hated gaming and it sucked. Im from a small town of 1000 people and there's not many gamers here especially girls. Ive really got back into gaming lately and im pissed i sold or gave away my older systems. I had a super nintendo, nintendo, sega master and genesis, n64 and gamcube, original xbox, gameboy, gamegear, 3do, ps1 & 2 and dreamcast and there all gone and it blows because im starting to buy it all back. But i do own all last and current gen consoles and handhelds so thats a start. I really enjoy collecting games and systems, i almost bought a pippin just to have it.
4:00 This is easier if you scrap wiring. Just put two power pylons on top of a shack floor (or the other smaller) then move the shack floor to the nearest place to where you want to build extra stuff, next add and remove wiring between the power pylons everytime you new add something extra to your settlement. There you go.
Liked and subbed! You have a lovey voice sir. And I enjoy how you’re explaining with the actual visuals of the video. Looking forward to watching tour other vids.
brilliant vid!! that tree house trick is awesome, never would have thought of that myself... although this does mean i now have to rip all my old ones down and start again lol!
Absolutely brilliant! I've only been playing for a couple weeks nd feel like starting over with each video I see, but after this one I have to start over!

Wow, thank you for putting these tips together. I just started FO4 (late I know) and enjoy the Base Building, but was discouraged by some of the limitations addressed in this video. However I have a feeling things are going to change drastically now in my builds. Thanks again, keep up the good work.
woah. the concrete foundation tip is immediately very helpful
I'm just downloading this game on my PC and I'm learning how to play this. You are by far my most informative and fun guide thus far. What an awesome guide. Simple, effective and fun to watch. I'm excited to start playing once it fully downloads. THANK YOU!!!
Nice video, to the point and no BS, just the way i like it. Thnx for the tips.
Just started playing fallout 4 this week. You've made base building more interesting and less of a chore.
Can't wait for a mod that will get us rid of that size limit
+Zack Fair ...And while doing so, make your game run sluggish.... ''Not if I have a powerful PC it won't''
Yeah, it will... A powerful PC isn't enough for things to run smooth, the engine itself will have to be able to handle it and.... Well, that limit is there for a reason.
+Zack Fair there already is
+AcAnimate Hahahaha oh wow, stop talking shit please.
MrThreeWorlds Yeah sorry I know they put that limit there only for laughs... It really have no purpose at all :o
Like the loadtimes before entering larger buildings and areas, they only have those to show us that random information, it have absolutely nothing to do with things actually having a limit.
+AcAnimate The building limit can be far bigger on a pc compared to consoles. Thank god for modding
I didn't think of that 'stacking concrete slabs' part! THANK U SO MUCH!
Jesus, I'm surprised you guys don't have a million subscribers yet cuz your videos are awesome. Keep up the Fallout vids tho.
Man, it's been years since this games release, I've had dozens of playthroughs and 100% exactly why I love fallout, every time you see something or play through again your always finding new stuff, even when I go back to fallout NV and 3 still finding new stuff
OMG this is fantastic, great tips!
Thanks so much for this. Was really looking for a lift and distance move option for crafting on Xbox One. The o
Clipping techniques explained well too. Thanks again! Subbed.
Level 273 what the fuck
+Hat Dag Cat If you ever reach this level legitimately, you will be crowned king of those who have NO FUCKING LIFE. I'm well on my way, level 59.
+samil bilin Fallout 4 is one hell of a drug.
I'm level 122, the time flies by in this game.
Squiggy2010 mate this was like 2 days after release
samil bilin I didn't notice the upload date. Did he even sleep...
I've just completed the game (main quests) and started decide to do some base building. Your video has helped me so much to get properly started.
Cablecar18 man
Thanks! You have opened a whole new world now for me to play with until the DLC comes out! Best hints I've come across so far for building.
I built a concrete wall around sanctuary and used the snap houses mod and somehow my sanctuary ended up looking a lot like a alexandria safe zone from the walking dead was never my intention just sort of happened
Exactly what I do with settlements also inspired from twd
First tutorial with information I didn't already know. Well done!
The gentleman narrating this is from the Live stream prior who has played Battlefront correct?
+DanVanDam Correct! - Ian
Ah cheers bud XD *waves* I rated the game as it was being played live haha
Astfgl
Fine roughleman~
The ingenuity that the players show in making full use of the new system makes me love the community as much as I love the game
I've tried so many times to build the treehouse like this but it wit work :( if I select the cement block it doesn't carry the whole thing
Same here
You have to hold down the select button
Already knew most of these things already but the vid was still informative and the voice over is clear and nice to listen to for a change :)
Wow it takes a lot to get my like and favorite and you just got one. Most helpful tips ive seen thus far. +1 from the communist lord himself.
+Joseph Stalin nobody wants your like anyways fuck bag lol
gnarly0531 k thx bai
+Liberty Prime "Democracy is non-negotiable."
+Joseph Stalin Stalin wasn't communist, he was a fascist pretending to be communist.
+Liberty Prime "communism" is really being used as a way to describe dysfunctional governments instead of what it actually is.
I mean we could say "capitalism is fucked up" to talk about the United States but that's not true either, it's good on paper just like communism - but the USA sure are fucked up.
I'd like to add my thanks to the many already posted here... Your video is clear, concise and most importantly, relevant... Well Done!
Ugh....the hours I'm putting into this game....and not just because I don't have a job. lol
Thx so much for the guide! I knew some of it, but that clipping thing was SUPER useful
Ahhh you HOLD X to move the structure
thank you so much, the height adjustment trick and the select while structure trick are amazing, so glad i learnt this
I thought these were advanced builder tactics
I'm obsessed with building settlements and thought I had it pretty much figured out but you've just given me some new tips which will be very helpful and very useful! Thanks an I'm subscribing as my way of saying thanks
This is an advanced tutorial, why is supply lines a tip?
Tim Cody some ppl don't know about it? Idk
Brilliant tutorial. I was mind blown with the no clip solution to building tree houses. Subscribed!
You are level 273? Legit or can you cheat in this game?
+Jonny Nevanranta I used a cheat for the PC version to unlock all the levels and add loads of building materials. It's been very handy for experimenting with builds and perk combos! - Ian
+Eurogamer Ok, I see. But you havn't cheated in this video? Is there no level cap? Thanks for answering btw ^^
There is no level cap
+Jonny Nevanranta I read somewhere that level cap is lvl 65,535
+Aberamentho2010 Totally agree, check out my settlements!
+Aberamentho2010 lmao same here dude. I was about 164 hours into the game and had explored almost every place on the map and did so many side quests before I started getting bored. I was like, "I guess I'll start looking for Shaun now" lol.
It give extra xp and it add gameplay because people attack your settlement and It make me feel like a big shot when I destroy these muthafuckas with my 20 turret guns XD
knowing how many hours i've spent building / messing without even thinking this last trick was possible! THANK YOU !!
DLC?
I would like co-op
+Paradox xodarap Fallout is like Elder Scrolls. Meant to be a single player experience. They won't be doing any multiplayer elements in the main game. If they did they would make a side game like elder scrolls online.
nybiggs
YOU'RE NOT MY DAD
+Paradox xodarap that made no sense and now I question your intelligence.
Really nice tip on the treehouse! I was able to completely repair my castle walls using this method. thanks!
Juan Ceja why would he need an extra house or extra car?
Cant tell you how much this helped me, Ive been struggling to build cool structures in Fallout. Thank you so much!
The clipping, using stairs to stack the concrete foundations and the moving back and forward blew my mind
your last tip about clipping objects was a good one! thank you!
Thank you for this video. The shack foundation really is exactly what I needed to know about.
4:00 This is easier if you scrap wiring. Just put two power pylons on top of a shack floor (or the other smaller) then move the shack floor to the nearest place to where you want to build extra stuff, next add and remove wiring between the power pylons everytime you new add something extra to your settlement. There you go.
I just saved this video to my fallout playlist! This is a godsend! Feels weird playing for this long and not know some of this 😅
Liked and subbed! You have a lovey voice sir. And I enjoy how you’re explaining with the actual visuals of the video. Looking forward to watching tour other vids.
Also a good tip is to use the floor tiles from the warehouse index as they take up a little less space and don't use steel if you are low on supplies
brilliant vid!! that tree house trick is awesome, never would have thought of that myself... although this does mean i now have to rip all my old ones down and start again lol!
7 years later still helpful vid! Im replaying this game i just love it
The last clipping tip is awesome! Thanks man ;)
Absolutely brilliant! I've only been playing for a couple weeks nd feel like starting over with each video I see, but after this one I have to start over!
That last tip is amazing. Thank you so much.
Holy crap that clipping "glitch" is awesome! thanks so much man! definitely sharing this with my friends!
I don't say this often, but oh my God thank you! All of the issues I've had against the building mechanics are all covered here.
Very helpful video. To be honest, most of this I've had to learn the hard way, and I still learned two new things, so thanks for this video
thanks so much for these tips, my man. i had some creative ideas to spruce things up a bit and that concrete exploit will surely help me.
The best building guide on youtube!!! Thanks so much
I’m new to this game and your tips helped me a lot. I’m off to build a treehouse now. Thanks a lot bro. Respect
That was extremely helpful, thanks. The explanations are good, the video easy to understand, and this nice background music really sells it. Thanks mate :)
Size management just drop any junk items in your inventory scrap them and repeat your size bar will go down every time you scrap a junk item
omg, i will be going round all my builds and restarting them, that clipping tip is awesome :)
I'm so pleased with this video. I actually know which button I can use for either my xbox or computer.
Damn!! I’ve been playing this thing for hundreds of hours, and I still learnt something!! Nice video!! 👍👍
Thanks for the tips! I've been so frustrated with the clipping and height/distance adjustment!
i just started this game, and what i wanna say is, this video you made was so useful for me! thank you so much!!
Brilliant video. Very useful. Learned a few things that will make my build a lot easier now. Many thanks!
This.... this brings a tear to my eye and hope into my heart! You, my friend, are my Messiah. Thank you so much for these tips! I now have a brand new outlook on settlement building and can't wait to utilize these tricks and bring glory to the people of the Commonwealth. Thank you so very much for this video :D
OMG!!!!!!!!!, I was so frustrated when I didn't see my workshop materials after I linked it to my main workshop. Thank you so much for clarification on that
Very high-quality video! Thanks
Very cool! I especially love the treehouse tip.
