- When the President of the United States visited Saginaw Michigan, some police officers in the area noticed that a 90 year old grandma needed to get to her car to go to her doctor's appointment, so the officers decided to help her to her car, even holding her purse for her! Except it's not...
It's a very kind gesture and it's great to have people in society that will go out of their way to go above and beyond and help others but it is in no way part of their actual job. Unfortunately a lot of people are misled by titles such as "civil servant" and slogans like "protect and serve" that have led them to believe that's the duty of Law Enforcement. When in reality, those are just arbitrary sayings that actually have nothing to do with their actual job description. Law Enforcement's job is to uphold the Constitution by enforcing the law of the land. Nothing more, nothing less. They are under absolutely zero obligation to protect you, even if they literally see you in danger right in front of them. That's why you see Officers that have heroically put themselves in harms way to help or save others receive awards for "going above and beyond the line of duty".
Maybe you're the one that's misleading! No need to give lectures!
For that amount of time that was the most protected grandma on the face of the earth

That's right, I was thinking the same. This is a perfect teaching moment! All cops are not bad and many of them will help a granny go about her day. They don't always show up to take someone away. Granny needed a bit of help and they happened to be around and chose to go help her get to her ride safely ❤😊

@@TheAttacker732I always thought this was to protect them from liability if they’re not able to save someone in the course of their duties whilst doing something (I.e: responding to an incident and being unable to avert a casualty whilst trying to handle the situation) or something like that. I doubt a cop could get away scot free for standing around in uniform due to Duty to Rescue or similar, especially since I doubt a cop would just shrug and walk off if something were to happen and not get fired or brought to court. It’s a nuanced thing that has a lot of good discussion online.
r/protectandserve has tackled the whole not legally required thing pretty well, I might’ve missed a thing or two.
I almost died in a small forest next to a playground when my first boyfriend tried to strangle me to death. Someone heard my cries for help and phoned police. I was barely alive when they found me after my ex tried to throw me into a bonfire after I had gone unconscious. My grandpa was a sheriff. Those police officers saved my life. I will always thank them for their service. Without those brave officers, I would never have become a mother to a beautiful little girl.

I've been in a situation as a passenger before, road rage in some of the older people is kinda comical, yet my hand was on the belt. Yeah, I didn't go anywhere Else with them. Not really, it would be much better if the country had public transportation for seniors. A lot of older people end up crashing due to health concerns, and it would save a lot of lives. At a certain age, people shouldn’t be allowed licenses anymore.

@@InsomniacSleepy Unfortunately the Secret Service can't give prior notice to the residents because they often have to change routes at the last minute, so they are very understanding if someone like Grandma has to get to her appointment.

They walked her there because there were so many cars parked to try and see the President and they wanted to make sure she got to her ride safely. Did it not occur to you that the woman taking the video could have driven her?

No 90 year old should have to walk 10 feet to get to the car much less past that road block. You dont take care of 90 year olds do you? You make sure you go to them not make them walk past a road block. 4 men walking around her will do no good to her unless they carry her. Think. You dont realize how much pain they caused her or more tomorrow.
