Stee True that he started his career off of TH-cam, and Quincy did attribute to his rise to stardom, but he’s so much more than a social media influencer. Stee th-cam.com/video/EWHpdmDHrn8/w-d-xo.html You were saying? You should stop with your unsupported arguments. I would like for you to name one notable musicians who can’t stand him, and I can name a multitude of notable musicians who give him the credit that we are speaking of. Guys, it is time to realize that there are just trolls who want to make people feel bad. They look for things people are passionate about, and they seek to do nothing but cause negativity in people, because they know that may be the best way they can get attention. I think it is ok to engage them, but don’t let them take away the beauty that people like Jacob Collier share with the world.
Stee if you genuinely think the musicality is pointless then you probably aren’t the audience for this music; that argument is just as ridiculous as people who say rapping is just speaking with a passion and not music. personally i enjoy his lyricism as well; it’s rather straightforward and to the point without seeming like it’s cutting any needed detail, similar to jeremy zucker’s songwriting. there’s no point in gatekeeping, nor is there a reason to diminish his musical knowledge and skill just because he did youtube covers and you don’t personally like his original music
@Stee you have a right to your opinion, i'm not at all denying your points because they're valid to your listening habits; they just contradict my views on him strongly. but going out of your way to reply to every comment praising collier under this video as if you'll change someone's mind and stating it as if it's fact over and over really gives off the impression i stated in my first reply
@Stee your opinion is correct to you. to someone like me, your opinion doesn't hold up as well. that's why they're opinions and not facts, and why they should be presented as opinions and not facts. personally i enjoy collier's music (especially his most recent release, djesse 3) because of his openness to modern genre ideals and lyricism while implementing many tropes one would learn at a conservatory that modern day record labels ignore or reject because it doesn't fit into a standard pop formula. on paper it doesn't look great but when you (well, not you, but his audience) listen to it it just clicks. just as i have my opinion, you have yours, but running around saying someone is "spreading fakeness" when nearly every great artist will say art is subjective to the listener isn't sharing an opinion, it's just being disrespectful to the artform
Stee he’s already wowed enough people within the industry to showcase that even the greatest in the current landscape are wowed by his talent and compositions. the great have already deemed him great. even then, if somehow they were to disagree, collier doesn’t make just jazz; personally i don’t think straight jazz is even his strongsuit after seeing his fusion of jazz with pop and hip hop, primarily on his latest album. the issue with pop and hip hop and your argument is that the playing field is so wide that there’s no objective good or bad, so inherently with the fusion he’s making there is no objective good or bad. i’ve not once denied your opinion because it is your opinion; i’m simply saying that it’s a wrong mindset to be thinking that his music is inherently good or bad by nature, alongside going out of your way to convince people of that

I bet he would love learning from Jacob, and I bet Jacob would love the world of combining traditional Korean instruments with rap beats to create sick tracks that can make your blood run cold. Also, Jacob puts more care and thought into his videos than most Westerners... This is clearly an elaborate dream I’ve had, haha... but I truly think that it would create living, breathing art of an epic proportion that we need in the world right now. Calling Jacob Collier a kid is like calling Einstein a dude with funny white hair, he's basically a musical Einstein.
@@dhayaakherraz4214 lol ok buddy.
@@faz7531 just to be clear, even tho he's a musical genius vice should do more important stuff than this.
Wrong again, Vice.
Please. Post. Journalism. Please
What is wrong about this?
@@shmoeg "The most important news of the day with context, insights, and on-the-ground reporting you won’t see anywhere else."
@@auntied4950 That would be a good point if it said " *only* the most important news..." You do realize the most viewed videos on this channel are documentaries titled "what it's really like to fight for the Islamic State" and "inside El Chapo's escape tunnel". I don't see a single mention of breaking news being their priority so even then your argument doesn't hold water.
Lmao all of these butthurt people who don't know the legend that is Jacob Collier. Incredible comment section.
Even the way he speaks is a funky musical beat.
Had to get a pen and paper to write down all his references for research. Thanks Jacob!
to those complaining this isn’t “news” : like a newspaper that has headlines, fashion, music, food ect, vice is not limited to covering only social unrest
Kendrick Lamar and BTS being introduced consecutively is too much for me.
He really thinks Kendrick Lamar was the first to mix jazz and hip-hop? Gangstarr? Tribe? De La Soul? Lol sure mate.
Think he's aware of that but it was poorly worded
I was pretty disappointed in that statement too. I’m sure he does know better and maybe his full explanation was edited. Shame on whoever let that non-truth out
It's been 8 years since he was a TH-cam sensation. After you've been managed by Quincy Jones, nabbed 5 Grammys, and performed at Royal Albert Hall, I think it's pretty safe to say that train has LONG left the station- this young man is currently heralded by the pantheon of modern composers as one of their tribe.
I came here to say how wrong the title is but as the comment section is full of it and people have expressed it so much better than I ever could, I’m just gonna enjoy the video
Thank you people for defending this gem❤️
*A dog barking
Jacob : THAT'S A B FLAT
i can’t believe he mentioned his dark materials i love that series so much
I think you misspelled "Genius Music Superpower"...
0:02 further proving that if someone with perfect pitch is in the room, *they will make sure u know*
lol they may have asked him but even so some people with perfect pitch literally notice every time a noise is made so sometimes they just say it to get it out of their mind
This is no different than an Arts and Entertainment section in a news media publication (like newspapers). Culture is news. Let the people listen and they might learn something.
alternative title: here's what musical GENIUS jacob collier is currently obsessed with
Bring back old vice this crup is getting out of control
All these dislikes better be from people wishing the video was longer
😂😂😂 I WAS LITERALLY WAITING TO FIND OUT WHICH TH-cam STAR JACOB COLLIER WAS CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH... never once did i think they were referring to him as a youtube star. lol.
O God! Just stop with the "TH-cam Star" criticizing comments, enjoy the video and for God's sake, comment something valuable. Every bloody comment is about the same damn thing.
Awww what an angel, he's a lovely guy :) I love his perspective on the world (and his music too, obviously). It's a shame all these comments are so negative... Giving artists a new platform is another form a journalism, honestly. He's making a very big impact musically, so you could call it news I suppose lol... I don't see why everyone is so angry?
People are tired of the destractions and lame attempts to continue the FAKE NARRATIVE.
Disclaimer - you won't have any idea what I just said if you're an NPC. ✌😀
he mentioned j.k. Rowling and that always brings out the fascists
It is amazing that he knows Brazilian legendary underground musician Hermeto Pascoal, he produces very unique, unorthodox, crazy music, if you are willing to hear something totally different from anything you might want to give some of his albums a try on spotify.
VICE THIS ISNT YOU
🤣
Vice needs a Snicker
Can you not accept something different?
@@seth_deegan The most important news of the day with context, insights, and on-the-ground reporting you won’t see anywhere else.
@@auntied4950 Really? Aljazeera, BBC, Bloomberg all seem to come out with daily reporting at the scale that Vice does... I don't understand your response to my comment anyways...
If anyone isn’t aware: “Feel like making love” is a cover of Roberta Flack. Definitely recommend a listen. Her voice is amazinggggff great song!
We all just couldn’t live without Jacob Colliers opinion, thank you so much Vice, your content just keeps improving.
Disliking only because Vice undermined Jacob as a TH-cam Star smh
Umm why not call him Grammy winning artist? TH-cam star seems... Lesser.
Vice "News"
you basically pissed off sixty two thousand people with that title
One of the most recent musical geniuses produced by this wonderful world.
C'mon guys not only is Jacob a musical G, he's also a TH-cam star!! ✊ 🥳 👏 👏 👏 🤝
His Dark Materials is a fantastic series, excellent taste
Why so many dislikes?... listen to his new album.. guy has 4 grammy's...
how did i not catch that he jams with bts? i mean, OF COURSE! the boys' catalogue is crazy!
"TH-cam Star" GTFOH, Vice. This is a Grammy winning, musical prodigy who is a star amongst the most talented musical celebrities. Best change that title...c'mon. Pff "TH-cam Star..." smh
We got Ja rule on the phone, let’s see what Ja’s thoughts are on this video
Lmaoo
Underrated reference
4 Time Grammy award winner Jacob Collier
I love the way this quadruple Grammy God dresses 😍 makes me wanna gift him a loud handwoven ikat jacket in clashing colours 🌈🦄
'TH-cam star' is a severe undermining of this man
why does he wear a durian on his head?

My choice for footwear
here's what I'm currently obsessed with: CROCS
So comfy.
Rock with you, now that’s some guitar. Banger.
Jacob: 1:46
Me: are you talking about yourself dude?
‘Little miss sunshine… a classic’
I'm just glad to see Hermeto Pascoal getting a shout out. Not that he needs it, the guy has a 70-year career.
UHM...Jacob is a whole Grammy winner/musical genius/hero. "TH-cam Star"? VICE you're tripping.
"TH-cam star"?
Stee just saying that he is just a "youtube star" undermines the fact that he is a pretty remarkable musician, with or without youtube.
Stee a lot of people genuinely like Jacob collier's music. If that wasnt the case then how was he able to become a "youtube star" from the beginning ?
Stee he has won four Grammys?
Stee don’t think an idiot could win 4 grammys
@Stee You for real hate him don't you? Why you gotta reply hate to everyone? Is it because you'll never be as talented as Jacob Collier?
TH-cam STAR I AM SCREAMING
TH-cam star... with Grammys up to his ears...
never heard of this guy
He has a NPR tiny desk
Maybe that's why VICE is trying to cover him?? He's incredibly important to modern music and has explored groundbreaking methods in creating music.
Why do people keep thinking that because they haven't heard of someone it makes them not worth talking to? You've probably not heard of the most prevalent current scientists in their respective fields or other such things. Why does that matter?
@Stee So? Doesn't mean that person isn't worth talking to... Like my comment said...
Vice """"News"""""
looool wtf has happened to vice?
I’m an Army and a fan of Jacob Collier. So happy he likes BTS! For a pop group they do experiment
Imagine the capital ($$) invested into Vice reporting hard hitting under reported stories for it to devolve into this vacuous “story”. It’s straight up clickbait or glomming on to Internet personality in the hopes of luring a younger demo.
*4 time grammy winning jazz musician, not internet personality. But i do agree that putting this on the vice news channel is stupid
