There are just some comedians that don't want comedians that can outperform them to open up for them as well. Not because they aare jealous but just because they sometimes don't want to work that hard.
Nobody opens with a comedian that can out perform them. Otherwise it wouldn't be called an opening act. An opening act is like an appetizer. You eat it in anticipation of the main course.
@C.J. Hawks It's not a lie. I'll give you my story. I was called to audition to open for David Alan Grier at the ShakespeareTheater in DC. I went in there with all the other comedians and murdered the joint to the point where all the other comedians was like yeah you got it. I get a call 2-3 weeks later and they softened me up telling me how I was the best they had seen and they can't wait to work with me in the future but they regret to inform me that they went with someone else. my girl said look they probably went with a bigger name. I was think oh yeah Tony Woods, Erin Jackson, Matt Kazam, Billy the Kid, or Skeeba. When I saw who they picked I was mad as hell because I was murdering him at his own room. My girl had to basically give me the David Ruffin let down. She said if you had performed and you outperformed David no one would remember how great you were they would just talk about how bad David Alan Greir was because they paid their money to see him not you. That is when the light came they only people there to see the opening act is friends and family everyone else is there to see the main act.
