  • World Englishes refers to the differences in the English language that emerge as it is used in various contexts across the world.
The term was introduced by the Indian-American Linguist Braj Kachru (1932-2016) at a TESOL Conference.
To illustrate the varieties of English across the world, he proposed the Three Concentric Circles Model of Englishes.
In this video, we will discuss what World Englishes is and Kachru's Model of Englishes.
As an example, we will talk about Philippine English as well as give some sample words.
*This video is a learning resource for GE 5 Purposive Communication students on the topic Local and Global Communication in Multicultural Settings (Varieties and Registers of Spoken and Written Language).
