    Nice video. Sound levels were off for me, intro and outro were fine but for the review I had to have my sound up full, and still struggled to hear the commentary. Good luck with the new channel.

    What an underrated period for wargaming.

    I really enjoy the rules, and tested them in the early stages, and like you find the non predictability the strongest positive, the dice swings can be cruel but that sometimes is just a rubbish roll. Agree about the lack of index, and finding questions you may have can be a challenge to find some items, but good support exists if you need it. The biggest pro for me is the scenario books and the non basing specific options. The rule book and cards are very affordable, and the scenario books are excellent with every major and a lot of minor scenarios, I have played more than half of them now and have had good results. They are now my go to rules at French Wargame Holidays for WOTR for large battles.
    cheers
    Matt

      Got to play this game for the first time last fall at a convention and they were quite interesting. A great convention game to keep everyone fully engaged because of the activation

    What a spiffy game room! I am jealous.
    Hopefully come June LWTV will remind us about your channel and give us a link.

      @LittleWarsTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There’s a link in the description to the publisher, but the book is $40. Does not include the printed card deck or the scenario books-so the total package is actually quite expensive as historical rules go these days!

    • @jeremybain3830
      @jeremybain3830 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tabletop warfaming can be very cheap outside of buying rule sets initially. However unless you can be happy with very abstract pieces to represent the forces then prices naturally go up. Whether that price is on your wallet or your time. I started getting into bolt action over a year ago and because I'm not artistically skilled I've ended up spending over a thousand bucks buying miniatures + terrain.

    • @devonboy8243
      @devonboy8243 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does seem a lot for what looked like a rule set from a while ago regards presentation.
      I am also nervous about cards that change play or plans. While I like the idea I don't want it necessarily to happen every game, but a chance of it happening yes.
      Thank you for the review.

    Nice video from Mark & the guys. A significantly different approach to rating a rule set than the LWTV methodology - essentially thumbs up / thumbs down - but in the end the same value to those considering the game, i.e., is the effort to learn the system worth the resulting fun I will have AND will it “feel” like the period of warfare it is intended to portray?

    • @LittleWarsTV

      We rather enjoyed seeing a new spin on reviewing rules from another club. It’s a totally different style and format. Reviewing rules is so incredibly subjective!

    • @davidschneider5462
      @davidschneider5462 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with this approach is that the topics generally aren't black or white, good or bad, there seems to to be a gray area that can't be represented. I do like the addition of a fun category. Sometimes that can be the most important category, particularly with new players.

      I have to say I prefer the LWTV format for game reviews. I think it allows more granularity.

    • @michaeldecarlo6945
      @michaeldecarlo6945 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that the granularity is important IF (1) the game system deserves it and (2) you are attempting to choose between game systems for a similar period and could benefit from the in-depth treatment. In that regard the LWTV game comparing Fireball Forward with Crossfire is the type of review I’d like to see more of in the future. And if you intend to go “all-in” for the WOTR, then you are looking for more info about the available rule sets for that period. But if you just want to roll some dice with the guys of an evening on a time period that you play sparingly, then this probably helps. Thanks to LWTV for carrying the banner that this is a serious hobby. But, among ourselves, we do it for the fun.

    Nice summary and rating scale. I am curious about two issues:
    1. The supplement books, are those solely scenarios, are so they add new rules/units? Are the rules all present in the core book or would you need the others to have all the mechanics?
    2. Not being familiar with the Wars of the Roses, do the books give any sort of overview of the historical period?

    Good review. Interesting out come as "Recommended" despite general misgivings about the combat resolution system. As to your comments on layout, the absence of a usable contents page or index is disappointing, but based on my personal experience an index is a lot of work to put together, even with modern publishing tools. The Edgcote game you played certainly looked like fun, and the rules do seem to give an enjoyable take on the period.
