I realize it’s improv… but I really don’t get why some artists can’t resist composing their own unique melody to replace that of the original composer. Is it possible there’s a reason other than ‘ego’? They’re like, “oh hell, I can come up with something that’s much, much, MUCH better than the original artist did! Just listen to THIS!” The guy who sang the first verse (the guitarist) definitely shoulda stuck with the original melody. I feel certain he had the same thought… the very second he blew that ‘G’ right out through the roof. 😂
I was there and Natalie was a no show. Best performances, in my opinion, were Jennifer Nettles (what a voice!), Cactus Blossoms, Lyle Lovett (did a gorgeous version of Yesterday), Betty LaVette and Nancy Wilson with Denny Laine.

It was a great show. In addition to those mentioned, Sammy Rae did a super version of Heart of the Country and - to my surprise- Ingrid Michaelson seamlessly wove together “I Will” and “Calico Skies,” almost as if it was one of Paul’s mini-medleys when in fact the songs were written almost three decades apart. In fact, Michaelson was the only performer to stray beyond the Beatles-Wings eras. Well, the world is still catching up with Paul’s accomplishments. There’s so much more.
@@chairmanmajong Definitely a highlight. Good concert, but I was little disappointed that Calico Skies was the only song more recent than 1977. In the MusiCares tribute Alison Krauss did an amazing country version of No More Lonely Nights that stole the show for me. In this concert, I thought Alexis' jazz version of My Love was particularly good.

No he wasn’t but Michael Dorf, who put this together, read a letter from Paul before the show started. This was a fundraiser for kids music programs.
