Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?
Probably 8. The beginning is a bit out of context to whoever didn't watch the movie.
I say it was a market study... for possibly other movies... they wanna see how many people would go for a Driz'zt movie and the like. It wouldn't surprise me the least bit to see a famous name in part 2

The idea of Displacer Beast's tentacles being _hologram projectors_ is genius, whether it's canon or not.
It can be canon in your campaign. Tabletop RPG lore is not mandatory.

I mean, it’s kind of canon. The displacer beast’s whole thing is that it projects a false image to disguise its true location-true, the usage displayed doesn’t quite match the gameplay effects, but is consider it an acceptable adaptation.
3:04 - that whole team in a cage are a reference to the old cartoon about bunch of teens and a kid who got teleported into a DnD world and had to search for a way out.
Probably the best easter egg in the entire movie.

How to tell the difference between regular treasure chests and Mimics:
0:45 Regular treasure chest has a brown and dark red coloured lid
1:13 Mimics, on the other hand, have black coloured lids
Remember, ladies and gentlemen, don't be like Frieren, whom randomly opens every single treasure chest she comes across. Be on the lookout for extra details before opening them
You never know when you'll get devoured instead

Neither side should have power. Anyone who reads the New Testament with an open mind and without preconceived notions would come away agreeing with most of what is said. The dude literally calls out overly religious people for being hypocrites. It's the only religion where God is merciful and salvation is free.

I watched this movie already and totally missed the cameo of the cartoon characters from the Saturday morning series, all those years ago.

It's funny but I actually think the thieves saved the kids' lives here, if he hadn't mentioned the fact that there will be more and more challenges after this, they likely never would have figured that out themselves until it is too late, now at least they have a chance to find an escape like the thieves did.

Most underrated movie of 2023.. Watched it today, and I really really enjoyed the movie.. Why didn't I watch it in theatres?? Noone told me movie was this good!!

After seeing a cameo/Easter egg of the animated D&D series characters I now want them to make a live action adapted movie based off of the animated D&D series.
Might be cool to do a movie explaining how they got into the games. You know there is a story there.

Make sure you don't doge your predator. Make sure you get right in front of it so it can chase you down. No lateral movements. Just put yourself right in front of its attack envelope.
Like that they included the characters from the animated series. I like to think they have been stuck in this world for 40 years.
My favorite little detail from this sequence is how the whole arena is meant to invoke the graph paper, blocky dungeon designs from the classic books.
The cute girl that got eaten at 39 seconds is named Niamh McCormack
why no one mentions this is beyond me; all talk of the other characters but not her...why?

The coolest part was when the cartoon series characters appeared 0:44 as part of the people running the maze.
How much meat does a Displacer Beast need? It killed like 5 people, youd think it'd be full.
Is funny how only a few of my older friends recognized the characters of the 80s cartoons.

Probably not the case here but it could still be in the red or barely enough with 58 mil profit.

I'm proud of myself for recognizing every monster. I don't even play although I've had the manuals for years. (Yeah...I need at least a minimum level of social skill to actually PLAY DnD...)
The movie was a little too jokey for me but they stayed pretty true to the D&D monsters and spells. I was impressed.
The owlbear was magnificent. I thought I wouldn't like it but, it's a decent movie.
Now I'd like to see a serious dark movie following the Drizzt saga.

hmm a treasure chest that tries to eat people.....Castlevania games (dawn of sorrow, symphony of the night, etc) have one also, called a mimic.
That chest is also called a mimic, it actually can perfectly resemble the appearance and even texture (and probably smell and taste) of a chest, and when something falls for it, it grows pseudopods and tries to eat you. It can also disguise at ANY inanimate object with the same precision, from chairs to books to those model skeletons in the science lab at the school you went to.
Yeah, Castlevania borrowed the Mimic from D&D - credit for the design of the monster goes back to original D&D creator Gary Gygax, who supposedly first came up with the idea in 1974, although it didn't appear in published form until 1977 (in Monster Manual I).

that should not have worked. Gelatinous cubes have a paralytic agent as well as being HIGHLY acidic. not to mention once they tried to leave, the cube would have pursued them. not quickly..but it wouldn't just sit there. the snake should have been paralyzed/stuck the instant it touched the jello.

Depends on which version of the rules you're talking about. It's pretty widely considered that this film is running off 5e rules.
DnD 5e Cubes do not have a paralysis effect they only Restrain. On the other hand, all of them could've tried to escape on their own so you give and take.
Secondly, Gelatinous Cubes (5e) can be paralyzed, slept, stunned, grappled, or restrained. All of which would prevent the cube's chase.

@@toomanyaccounts Not as per 5e rules but I take that more as a DnD physics moment. The snake couldn't be immediately restrained because the cube didn't have an action yet so in the wibbly wobbly time of it all she turned into a snake, got out, then the cube's turn passed where it couldn't restrain Doric and you see the rest.
