Probably 8. The beginning is a bit out of context to whoever didn't watch the movie.
I say it was a market study... for possibly other movies... they wanna see how many people would go for a Driz'zt movie and the like. It wouldn't surprise me the least bit to see a famous name in part 2

The idea of Displacer Beast's tentacles being _hologram projectors_ is genius, whether it's canon or not.
It can be canon in your campaign. Tabletop RPG lore is not mandatory.

How to tell the difference between regular treasure chests and Mimics:
0:45 Regular treasure chest has a brown and dark red coloured lid
1:13 Mimics, on the other hand, have black coloured lids
Remember, ladies and gentlemen, don't be like Frieren, whom randomly opens every single treasure chest she comes across. Be on the lookout for extra details before opening them
You never know when you'll get devoured instead

Neither side should have power. Anyone who reads the New Testament with an open mind and without preconceived notions would come away agreeing with most of what is said. The dude literally calls out overly religious people for being hypocrites. It's the only religion where God is merciful and salvation is free.
I watched this movie already and totally missed the cameo of the cartoon characters from the Saturday morning series, all those years ago.
Such an awesome series back then.

i love how accurate tye displacer beast is and how accurate its abilities are
The ability isn't really accurate, since in the game it instead bends light to look like it's about a foot to the right or left of where it really is, like an animation in a game that isn't synced up to the characters collision.
But, that'd be really difficult to explain/show in a movie, so I think the way they did it is a cool compromise.
I know an elf who would be fooled always by this chest

Fun fact... the writers and cinematographers did it this way as a nod to that very moment...
It's funny but I actually think the thieves saved the kids' lives here, if he hadn't mentioned the fact that there will be more and more challenges after this, they likely never would have figured that out themselves until it is too late, now at least they have a chance to find an escape like the thieves did.
After seeing a cameo/Easter egg of the animated D&D series characters I now want them to make a live action adapted movie based off of the animated D&D series.

The displacer beast has been one of my favorite D&D monsters since 1996. I almost got a tattoo of one from the AD&D MM a while back but opted for a nightmare instead.
Most underrated movie of 2023.. Watched it today, and I really really enjoyed the movie.. Why didn't I watch it in theatres?? Noone told me movie was this good!!

Like that they included the characters from the animated series. I like to think they have been stuck in this world for 40 years.
Make sure you don't doge your predator. Make sure you get right in front of it so it can chase you down. No lateral movements. Just put yourself right in front of its attack envelope.

How much meat does a Displacer Beast need? It killed like 5 people, youd think it'd be full.
The coolest part was when the cartoon series characters appeared 0:44 as part of the people running the maze.

@@Sitharos Marketing is usually not counted in the budget and depending on how big the movie and marketing is it can be as much as the budget itself, so those movies need to make double the budget just to break even. Probably not the case here but it could still be in the red or barely enough with 58 mil profit.
The movie was a little too jokey for me but they stayed pretty true to the D&D monsters and spells. I was impressed.
The owlbear was magnificent. I thought I wouldn't like it but, it's a decent movie.
Now I'd like to see a serious dark movie following the Drizzt saga.

hmm a treasure chest that tries to eat people.....Castlevania games (dawn of sorrow, symphony of the night, etc) have one also, called a mimic.
That chest is also called a mimic, it actually can perfectly resemble the appearance and even texture (and probably smell and taste) of a chest, and when something falls for it, it grows pseudopods and tries to eat you. It can also disguise at ANY inanimate object with the same precision, from chairs to books to those model skeletons in the science lab at the school you went to.
Yeah, Castlevania borrowed the Mimic from D&D - credit for the design of the monster goes back to original D&D creator Gary Gygax, who supposedly first came up with the idea in 1974, although it didn't appear in published form until 1977 (in Monster Manual I).

I wish it had a little more campy feel to it like the cartoon version. What this movie really needs is that wizard character. He sets the tone for the whole cartoon, being clumsy and funny as hell.

It’s a classic D&d creature called a displacer beast. It’s tricky to fight because it hides behind an illusion of itself, though the movie did it differently than how I always imagined it.
I wonder if there are other creatures such as beholder & deimos in this movie?(actually I love d&d games from capxxx very much🤩)
@@teapeanut2309 no beholders, unfortunately. But a lot of classic creatures. Displacer beasts, mimics, intellect devourers, axe beaks, owl bears, even gelatinous cubes.
