    Love the videos (Just subscribed). Who makes the focus slider ? it looks like the bees knees! It would be very nice indeed if you would put information up the products you use.
    The flash is the Macro Twin Flash KX-800 available at www.venuslens.net/product/macro-twin-flash-kx-800/
    Cheers from the USA.

    I'll let you know the results. I have a Canon macro lens and also a analogue 70-210 with macro (more close-up in reality) and a close up bellows. Expecting some good results even though reckon a lot of effort might be required. Thank you for the video.

    Hi Phillip.
    I've just started to watch your channel and after watching many others I've found my mentor. You! The bond was there from the first vlog. Educational with charisma, charm and humour. The only problem I have is, I can't find itchyphotos.com......Help!!!!!! Could you please put a link up.
    Many thanks.
    Callum.

      Glad to hear you enjoy the channel unfortunately itchy was sadly hacked and is no longer on line. I've replaced it with learnshots.com which is virtually the same. All free and you can upload your shots for critique in the gallery if you so wish. You will normally get 100% help and constructive remarks, we are only there to help you learn :)

    I've come late to your channel but I really like your videos and I've subscribed. You are not the typical TH-cam celebrity as you are a professional photographer which gives you credibility, you have an engaging and quirky style that entertains (although a very British sense of humour) and obviously you inform and explain well. I've learnt about flash photography from you and already put the lessons into practice. You don't seem fazed when upstaged by a hoover or cat! My photography is mostly landscape so if you were to do a series on that subject then I'd appreciate it also I'd like to see a little more of the beautiful Vanessa please.

    Interesting video! I've been wanting to get into macro as a winter thing. What kind of rail is that? I've been looking at one from Cognisys but it's a bit pricey. How has the Kuangren macro flash been holding up? Does it have similar functionality to the Canon macro flash?

    • @PhillipMcCordall

      The rail I use is a prototype and not yet available, sorry.

    Hi Phill, I have a question. When you first show the image of the match stick in that screen, you say that the depth of field is so narrow even at F11... I thought the lens would be open to its maximum aperture to let you focus in live view, and only stopped down when you actually take the picture. How did you force the aperture before releasing the shutter?

    • @kerngesund
      @kerngesund 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not quite sure how Canon handles this (I'm using Rolleiflex and Nikon) but at least Nikon will show you a stopped down live view image at the aperture you'll be taking the picture with. If that should not be the case you can always use the DOF preview button to stop down the lens. Without bright modeling light and while looking through the viewfinder it will be hard to see anything though when stopped down to say 16 or even 22.

    Absolutely fantastic, I have the Canon 100mm f2.8 1:1 macro with the ring flash and Mrs H bought me a decent manual rail and thus far that's all I have needed. Also I'm somewhat limited due to the physical aspects of setting up, but your rail and lens were amazing. I don't think you mention the ratio you were working at or that of the 60mm? I apologise if I missed it. But I've got to ask: When you were photographing in the pre-digital age I'm presuming you did quite a bit of macro, and I do remember you saying that practically all your work was done in camera. So the question is, did you, or your developers, ever do any manual focus stacking? Out of all the people who make videos on TH-cam you are the one I would most like to sit down with and try and learn a fraction of what you know. So any questions I ask are out of that curiosity.
    I hope your ear infection clears up soon, they are awful not just for the pain and loss of hearing but also your balance.

    Great series of videos. The other way to control your camera is to use 'Digicam control" which shifts the lens focal point and eliminates all the vibration.
    You simply connect the camera to a USB port on the computer. Set you near and far focus points, adjust the number of shots and go have coffee. (or tea)
    I use Affinity Photo for my stacking and find it better than most bought packages.

      @@PhillipMcCordall Hi Phillip how is the sturdiness and durability of the flash arms, are they still holding up? I am thinking to buy this flash, I would just like to know about your experience of long term use.

    • @PhillipMcCordall
      @PhillipMcCordall  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@herpinglao It's holding up pretty well, but I certainly wouldn't run around the garden with it, I was a bit over zealous with it, when crushing it into a camera bag, one of the arms popped off , although I managed to pop it back on :)

    Yet another great video from you Phillip. Thanks ever so much. Done a little bit of macro with reversing rings and find it great outside in the summer but focus stacking would be very difficult. I do have a very cheap rail which is very flimsy but after watching your video i think I'll have another go and see what we get. :) Thanks again.

    • @PhillipMcCordall
      @PhillipMcCordall  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try shooting with multiple exposure and change the focus very slowly while shooting the stacking should align every shot within reason, that way you don't need a rail at all

    • @KylieMinoguetribute
      @KylieMinoguetribute 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phillip, Thanks for that. I meant the stacking would be difficult because I'm shooting live bugs out in the open air so by the time i've even set up a tripod they've normally gone so have to shoot handheld as fast as I can. Makes things a little tricky for stacking...unless I choose snails. :)
